Nice resort but terrible customer service

Dpshow (San Francisco, California) on Dec 27, 2024

After a long travel day we get in what seems like the valet line, until a guy bangs on the window, scaring the crap out of everyone, says 'no valet,' and gives vague directions to a parking lot we never find. Drag our luggage from the parking spot, are greeted by a man who confirms there is valet, wait in a long check-in line and meet the most unpleasant front desk woman. She asks for my ID, which I lost before traveling, so I show other ID with a picture that worked for TSA, and she's like "You got through airport security with that... scary. I'll need my manager to approve." My husband has his ID, and the last name that's on the reservation, plus my 3 children have ID, but she says "They aren't on your reservation so they can't check you in." I ask if I can add them now. "I don't know if you're you, so you can't add them." I'm like "So I murder the real Gillian, so I can travel with her family to an over-priced resort during a crowded holiday?" The entire awkward time we're having this weird stand-off, the line is growing behind us, but she does not care. At this point my daughter realizes she has a picture of my drivers license on her phone, so produces it just as the manager comes over. Thank goodness he let us check in despite everything being so suspicious! She's still treating us like a family of imposters with a dead Gillian in the trunk, and doesn't get any nicer or apologize. It's way after check-in but one room isn't ready, so when we see a guy leaving with a wet-vac, the room smells like a disinfected crime scene, and the carpet is wet, we're pretty sure something gross happened, but we're tired so open the one window that's not painted shut. The next day we pre-order breakfast on line. We arrive at the Marketplace, are ignored for a while until a woman asks us for the last 3 digits on the order, but I don't have my phone. So I'm an imposter again, but this time I've moved on from steeling rooms to steeling breakfast. I tell her, "My phone is charging, I didn't know you needed a code, but I can tell you those are 3 vanilla lattes" at which point she touches the bag of food, daring me to guess the contents, so I list 6 items, but another stand-off until I remember the 7th thing in the closed bag. Again, there is a huge line growing behind me while we do this fun dance, and then she reluctantly hands me the bag, but says in a teacher voice "Next time you need the last 3 digits" and she points to the numbers on the receipt, like I'm an idiot. We're here for 2 more days so I'm hoping things improve. And I know it's crowded and I'm sure not fun for the staff, but pick your battles, be a little kinder, and common sense might be nice.

Outstanding tennis experience at LQ

Nadream81 (Long Beach, California) on Dec 19, 2024

We came to this resort because of the tennis facility team at LQ. Director Kevin C. and his crew treated us with the best hospitality you can imagine. His pros and staff were extremely accommodating and we felt right at home with our players. We are going to make our trip to LQ an annual event as long as Kevin will have us. If you’re looking for an experience with a great group of tennis coaches and staff, come here. That’s true whether you’re a teaching pro yourself or looking to receive lessons and court time. Wonderful facility which is kept in pristine condition. Ask for Ernie and Rod if you like some lessons. The guys were great! Thank you

The "Good Technician" at La Quinta Golf Course and Resort

DrMitc on Dec 18, 2024

We have visited this beautiful resort a couple of times a year for the last couple of decades. Nestled at the base of the beautiful Santa Rosa mountains, this historic property sprawles over several acres. Buildings consist of two story cassitas, one story rooms, suites and private bungalows. The accomodations range from basic rooms, private balconies and fireplaces, to multi rooms with private hot tubs and swimming pools. Part of the property is privately owned suites and townhouses. Everything is white washed with red Spanish tile roofs. Lots of palm trees. There are many pools on the property including two large pools and a tennis court. On the property are a few dining options that have improved considerably over the years. There is a small but very busy market store that comes very handy for morning coffee and quick bites as well. We stayed over Thanksgiving. We booked a Starlight Casita (second floor with a very large patio and fireplace) facing the Santa Rosa mtns. We arrived about 8PM (as per our reservation ETA) and were surprised that our room was given away. Instead, we were offered a much basic room as our only option. Hotel reception people are notoriusly robotic (this is an area of needed improvement of the resort). I was immediately referred to the manager, Hugh. This gentleman immediately put me at ease and did a number of things to make it right quickly. For our first night we were roomed in a bungalow. As we were exhausted and frustrated, we entered the bungalow only to find a man (technician) fixing the TV. The room was small and hardly could accomodate us. To our surprise, the man jumped right into helping us. I thought he was maybe the maintenance supervisor or a very kind technician. He was very unassuming and extremely quick to help. He got us a better room and assured us that the rest of our stay will be in the Starlight cassita as we had booked for. They helped us with the luggage move and even the next day, the morning supervisor, Alex stopped by to make sure that we were ok and happy with the accomodatios. He also let us in on a little secret: turns out the "technician" who went out of his way to help us the first arrival night, was the Property General Manager of the resort (Dermot Connelly)! Our stay turned out to be nearly perfect, thanks to the kind and genuine intervention and amazing leadership of Mr. Connolly! For that, we want to say THANK YOU to him and to his supervisors who follow his lead in providing excellent "customer service". We also enjoyed the resort health spa and hair salon very much. And special thanks to the Cafe 29 supervisor in making sure our room service was delivered correctly and without further ommission and delay. however, we were disappointed that La Quinta has discontinued their family style Thanksgiving dinner that used to be held in the grand hall. I suppose another victim of the Pandemic. We made reservations at Ruths Chris Steakhouse that turned out to be very good. We have stayed in a number of rooms here but our number one favorite is the Starlite Casita. It is so relaxing to be on the patio in the early morning with the fireplace going and watching the Santa Rosa mtns glow red as the sun rises. In summer, late in the evening, when the extreme heat has cooled down, sipping wine on the balcony and listening to the palm tree leaves blow in summer wind is a very relaxing and rejuvenating experience that we look forward to. La Quinta Golf Course and Resort has been and will continue to be our amazing getaway for relaxation and rest.

Not efficient nor responsive

450joannep on Dec 02, 2024

This property was not up to its reputation and standards. Housekeeping was a big problem . We never really had a daily room cleaning / service. One day , we could not even get clean towels instead of service. In general, there appear to be a lot of deferred maintenance in our room and on property . Worse yet , there was a major error in our bill . I was overcharged and 480,000 of my Hilton Honors points have disappeared .I used 480,000 Honors points were deducted deducted from my Honors account when I booked the reservation to get a free night. However, check out bill did not reflect the free night !!!! Instead, I was charged!!! The desk clerk told me that she had no ability to correct these egregious errors so I was forced to charge a very high erroneous amounts to credit cards. The desk clerk said the Front Office manager would be informed at 7 am and it would be corrected forthwith. Days later , it has not been corrected and calls to that Manager have not been returned. I am due a substantial refund and I need those 480,000 Honors points accounted for .
