A Time Was Had

Top 3 resorts in DR! My 13 friends and I had a great time . Watson !!!!! Watson was the best concierge ever! He made sure I had everything and needed nothing ! The buffet by the lobby was great ! Great food and great service. The specialty restaurants were booked and it was hard to get a reservation. It rained one night and I had a leak in my room. It was taken care of the same day. No delay thanks to Watson ! Pool bar was great and the staff were friendly ! Service here is top tier ! Can’t wait to come back again !
Never Again!!

I honestly have no idea how anyone staying at this resort gave it anything higher than a 1 star rating overall. Summary 5/5 for cleanliness, The grounds and room were all very clean all of the time. Note: Buffet was fine until day 3 when we saw a large bug crawl around the food at the omelet prep station. Only bug we saw, unfortunately, it had to be around our food (we didn't return to the Buffet after that) 4/5 for room, it was well appointed, large, newer, and clean. WARNING the beds are absolutely the worst experience all 4 of us expected ever. The floor was softer. I ended up on the couch by the last night because it was so bad. -10/5 for the bed, if you value your sleep run, do not stay here 4/5 for room service, this is hard because it was always fast 20 mins or less, but they never got our order correct. Club sandwich, omelet, fruit, and fries were good. 4/5 for the pool was a great size, with a nice layout. Getting a chair like some other resorts is a challenge. 3/5 for the staff, if you only speak English, this resort had the biggest language bearer I have ever experienced. 1/5 for the food, to start, I want to be clear that this was my 3rd trip to Dominican Republic, and I've been to mexico as well 4 times. So this is not my first time at an all-inclusive resort. This was hands down the worst experience ever. As I write this the day after our return, i am still trying to get better. The 1 star is only for the MEATS restaurant and Mashua restaurant for the only dinners that i was able to eat and keep down. I have never been sick at a resort (EVER). We left the Fish Market before we finished. It was that bad. The drinks were terrible, with only 2 that were ok enough to drink. Not all bars have the same drinks or ingredients to make them. So if you like something, you can only get it at that bar. Ice tea was only at the coffee shop, so I had to fill up my liter bottle every day if I wanted it at the pool or in my room. 1/5 for entertainment, they tried at the pool, and that's the only reason this is getting a 1. While it wasn't good at the pool, at least it was a decent attempt. They didn't play music by the pool the full day, so bring a speaker. Also, the music selection 75% of the time was not good. WARNING very, very loud karaoke outside from 9pm-11pm 2 of our nights. The music outside is noce to have, but it didn't need to be at decibels so loud you can hear it inside your room 2 buildings down. we couldn't sit on our patio and hear ourselves talk. AWEFUL In summary, if you value your stomach and sleep, don't stay here.
Absolutely my favorite place!!!

My husband and I visited the Ambar Dec 2024 for the second time and it was amazing. The entire resort was very clean and well maintained. The food was great!! If you are going to the a la carts, I highly recommend Yurta (Mongolian), Limbo, Rodízio (Brazilian - go with an appetite). The beach was always very clean. The staff is absolutely amazing. When saying my goodbyes to Ela at Palmyra Buffet, I turned away and cried. That’s the effect it had on me. It is truly the most amazing resort. The negatives: the cold water in our room took a few minutes to kick in. No big deal in our eyes, but it was a waste of water as you had to let it run in order to obtain a comfortable temperature. The chairs by the pool-people start holding them at 4am. By 8am there is nothing available. Some held chairs both at the pool and beach which was an issue as most times they were not used all day long and others were left without. We never had an issue as my husband and I are naturally early risers so we were there by 5am-5:30am. We would sit and watch the sky and then the sunrise. The last thing is airport transfer. We had 12 people on a bus with all of us headed to the Ambar. 2 people were missing and regardless of how many times we asked the driver to leave, he waited for an hour and 10 mins. This is time we all lost from our vacation. Dinner reservations were also missed because of this. Why he waited so long is beyond me. If you do not intend to take the shuttle, let the transportation company know please. It’s common courtesy.

Great vacation again at the Ambar. Wonderful to see familiar and new faces. Orlando at the front desk, he makes sure you get the best possible accommodations to fully enjoy your vacation. He is excellent at all that he does and a truly nice guy. Caesar, food and hospitality, he does all he can to make your dining wishes happen. Orlando and Caesar are an asset to this hotel, they both have a relaxed let’s make it work way about them and they succeed! Franklin is a master at hospitality and guest enjoyment; Ysael, Guest Services, always extremely helpful and so nice, he will do what he can to make your request happen; Maura, Miguel and Alba, Las Brisas, they all work hard to make this a welcoming place to dine outdoors. Ramon, pool towels, very nice hard working man; Pool bar ladies are great, especially the ones that have been there for years, notably Marlene, she is the best; Perla did an excellent job cleaning our room and went that extra step to please us, always a big smile and hello, a delight; Sports Bar, great chicken nuggets, potato wedges, chicken wings, clubhouse sandwiches. Things that need attention - pool ladies washroom, put new locks on stalls, if current type keeps breaking use the slider type that are at airport; the cats, get rid of them and the fleas they bring to beach sand, I know they are cute but when buffet does not have bacon and I come out and see a pile of bacon dropped on walkway for cats, I am somewhat annoyed; no need to feed and hide plates in bushes; if they are kept around for the mice, not good, they are too busy eating buffet food. As I said, remove the cats from property; red wine at pool bar, very bad, have the same wine throughout resort that is at a la cart restaurants. Wine consumption is probably much less at pool, make it the good stuff. Music at pool bar, reduce the long, long rap songs, play a variety, mix it up for all age groups, young and old. We had a wonderful vacation and plan to return again. Regards and thanks to all staff.
An Honest Review

Highly advise to go somewhere else for health and hygienic reasons. The resort has no running cold water every morning into the afternoon sometimes in guest rooms and public areas like bathrooms and pool side showers. One can imagine how well the staff and vacationers are able to clean their hands and dishes at the resturants/bars when there is no running water. No running water doesn't mean low pressure, it means zero drips of water coming from the faucet, shower, and toilet. There is scalding hot water, but that doesn't help with the ability to shower, wash hands or flush the toilet. People are up before 5am to reserve beach chairs, saw people reading in the dark with a flash light ?? Food at the beach restaurant and main buffet is often undercooked. Even the cook to order fish is raw and icy in the middle. Maintenance staff are great and very hard working, while service staff are not rude but certainly unwelcoming. Maintenance staff are happy to help at all times with no expectation for additional compensation. Service staff would barely do the job. You need to wave tips in front of them first to get their attention. Tipping after service will guarantee bad service. Maintenance staff deserve the tips, not service staff. The environment is nice but that's because of the island - not the hotel. Highly advise looking at other options along the beach. Smaller resorts may be better than large chains like Bahia and Riu.
