This place is in dire need of major renos

Gregory C on Dec 24, 2024

Summary for Henry Morgan (HM). Heavy rain 5 days out of 7, even though the rainy season was supposed to be over in November. We left Montreal in the hopes of getting a tan. Came back whiter. Roof leaked. To solve our issue, the maintenance staff threw a plastic tarp on the roof of our room. Humidity was so high our clothes, even with AC at turbo, wouldn't dry after hanging for days. The hairdryer was a measly older model. On high, you could smell the motors overheating. Walkways leaked when it rained. Bring an umbrella. Some wood flooring planks were rotten. Neighbours had cockroaches. Zero insulation in rooms. Balconies were unusable. The roof leaked inside the rooms and out there too, and there was no privacy on the balcony. Multiple power outages at night. Lots of sand bugs that will eat you up in bed, even if you are careful not to bring any (remove sandals at the door, directly to the shower, etc.). Do bring baby powder and abundantly pour it onto the sheets you'll lay on top of. ALSO beware of some BSers asking you to pay over 100$/US/pers for snorkelling expeditions. Even if the waters are rough, they will take you out there. Visibility is usually non-existent when wind and big waves are present for snorkelers. Different story for divers. Special warning. Urbania Sea tours. They are the worst. They say the hotel vouches for them, but I'm sure the hotel gets an affiliate kickback. Food was pretty good. Service at the restaurant was excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. The animation crew was anemic. Nothing was offered entertainment-wise, except for darts or salsa lessons. The "beach" is tiny. We will NEVER return to HM. For the week of Dec 16-23, 2024, ask anyone that actually went to HM, you'll hear the same stories. We all lived it. Do spend more and stay at another hotel. 3K for a week we want to forget.

Only for scuba divers. Needs a total reconstruction. I don't recommend.

Frederic G (Saint Hyacinthe, Canada) on Dec 24, 2024

If you scuba dive, it's the only thing you are looking for and you've got a very good price, it may be a place for you. If you are interested in anything else, don't go there. The buffet (only included option) is repetitive and the food is room temperature (yes, even meat). They do provide a microwave for people that like their food warmer... This lead to all of us having digestive problems. There are almost no vegetables offered. The beach area is small and packed with chairs. People from cruise ships often flood the place. Vendors, and often children, will try to sell their cheap chinese stuff, all the time. There are tour vendors (scammers) right inside the resort, that will ask you if you want to do a tour everytime you go from the pool area to the main bar. It was very annoying and does not belong inside the resort. We hired a private guide, and he confirmed that these guys are only there to get your money and only offer tourist trap tours. The whole place is a raised wooden deck. Wood that is rotting at many places under the fake grass carpet, that is everywhere. When it rains, the whole place is flooded : it becomes a mosquito paradise. The rooms are in poor condition. Some of us even had a leaking roof. There is nowhere to hang your towels or clothing. The door lock worked intermittently. The mattress is quite old, with two noticeable sagging spots that affect its support, and it has reached the end of its life. The main area (bar, entertainment, shop) looks like it was built 30 years ago, and never maintained. The roof leaks at many places. There are holes in the walls, which are dirty. The metal door of the little shop is rusted. The smell of sewer is always present, everywhere, even in the room. The drinking water is provided with 5 gallons home water dispensers in the main bar area, which are all dirty. The entertainment team try their best, but there is no stage, so most people don't even see their cheap choregraphy. If you like reggeaton music from 15 years ago, you may like to dance between 9PM and 10PM. I don't recommend it.

Great day beach off a cruise ship

Sightseer440455 (Jackson, New Jersey) on Aug 14, 2024

Went there for the day, paid $23 for use of facilities, lounge chair, umbrella. The beach was great, the water in the pool was like soup ( very warm). We ordered food at a restaurant next door on the beach, it was pretty good, prices weren’t bad at all. I would recommend this place to anyone. We will be returning.

Prime location and amazing staff...

Antoine_x74zhk (Lausanne, Switzerland) on Jul 05, 2024

I was part of a group travelling with an all-inclusive package. Since a full charter flight came simultaneously, the checking took quite a while and it was tedious. We arrived in the late morning and the rooms were not ready until 3:00 pm. It was all somehow fine thanks to the good Caribbean vibe and the friendly staff. The beach is really nice and the water pristine. Now, be prepared for all the jet skis, boats and vendors passing only a few meters away from the beach generating much noise. Noise is everywhere: On the beach, music is being played through big loudspeakers. Around the pool, the hotel animation crew is doing activities that all generate noise and we realized that this place of made for people who like noisy entertainment. The big down point is the quality of the food and beverage which I would qualify of poor. I tried fish multiple times and it never tased up to my liking. The pasta bar is made of a selection of overcook and tasteless pasta. The breakfast selection is OK, but nothing to write home about. The crew in the dining room is excellent and very attentive. The rooms are excellent, clean and minimalistic. A/C functioned very efficiently and quietly. Rooms have a nice colonial and cozy vibe.
