Amazing Experience, BUT.....
questnmark (San Francisco, California) on Oct 07, 2024
We just checked out of Villa Del Mar 2 days ago and made it back home. What can I say it was an amazing experience. The resort is beautiful and a short walk to Grace Bay beach. When walking to the beach, you walk on a path through the Ocean Club resort and you're on the beach. So technically Villa Del Mar while not directly on the sand, it's pretty much "on the beach". We had a 2 room suite in building A and it was amazing. 2 rooms, nice modern bathroom, with a kitchen and living room. We didn't use the kitchen for it's full purpose but the fridge and freezer were useful. With the cost of things in Turks I can see why some guests reviews said they cooked at the resort. As my title said Amazing Experience, BUT....here's what I mean: When we arrived we noticed that the parking lot was empty. The free parking is also a bonus but I thought "hmm okay maybe people are out sight seeing" but as the day went on no other cars except for the ones that were parked there long term were in the parking lot. As we walked through the resort the pools were empty and there was no action going on. We thought that was interesting. So the next day we though we would see people at the breakfast bar. Nope. So we asked the front desk "is anyone else here at the resort". They told us it's slow season so we were the only guests in the whole resort! That surprised us and it's cool if you really want to get away from it all and be in seclusion but at the same time it was a bit weird having a whole resort to yourself. When Turks says it's slow season take that seriously because resorts, restaurants, and businesses shutdown during the slow season and you can see it and feel it. The second part that raised a little red flag for me was the breakfast. It's not really breakfast that you would get from a resort that has an onsite restaurant. They set up fruit, a few pastries, and juice at the bar near the pool. It would be nice if this resort had it's own restaurant with breakfast. My concern with the breakfast on our first morning was "since it's just us at the resort, what happens to the food that is leftover" since there's not kitchen (or one that we could see since there's no restaurant on the grounds). On our final day when we were checking out of the resort, we happened to be leaving when breakfast was ending. We saw the bar attendant carrying the cereal dispensers to building B and it made me think "are they just storing the cereal dispensers with the cereal in it along with the fruit in a closet"? My assumption is that's what happening and if that's the case is it secure from things out in the environment (bugs, heat, etc.) Overall it's a beautiful resort. The staff there is the nicest. Westingley (I think that's how you spell her name) and the others were amazing. They were helpful and always had a smile. They made the experience even better. Felix the hotel groundskeeper and his son working at the bar are great guys. Kerone, the staff member working the chairs at the beach...what an awesome guy! Great job overall Villa Del Mar. You are our home when we go to Turks. I saw that you have some properties for sale :) Who knows what that can mean in the future!

The Little Resort That Could

We had such a wonderful stay at VDM! Incredible value at Grace Bay, we stayed in a Studio suite from July 27 - August 3, 2024: - Across the street from beach access: a quick skip across the street with a 4min walk through the beautiful manicured and lush property of the Grace Bay Club (GBC) brings you to a section of beach dedicated to VDM. Fresh water, lounger chairs, umbrellas, with easy access to drinks and excursions are provided. Shout out to beach attendant Kerone, with the million-dollar smile, who kindly got our beach spots ready for the day. We loved our conversations about local island life, thank you for sharing your perspectives with us : ) - Room just like the pictures: huge space with sitting area and a separate dining table, a King bed (very squeaky – only complaint lol) with lovely crisp white soft linens and a bunch of pillows, big bathroom with the a deep soaking tub (Tip: bring bubble bath!) and separate shower, small kitchenette with mini-fridge, toaster, microwave and coffee-maker (Tip: bring your own filters for a 12-cup coffeemaker) and stacked washer and dryer (Tip: bring your own detergent : ). Housekeeping did a wonderful job daily. We had lots of towels and coffee/sugar restocked and kitchen sink came with a sponge and small bottle of Dawn. Handy. I almost forgot to mention the balcony that had a full-size glass table, 4 comfy patio chairs as well as a full lounger. It was huge! Wonderful to gaze out at nature and the nighttime lightening storms. We did not have any trouble with bugs even though the balcony was not screened in. - Free breakfast with fruit, juices, coffee, pastries, packs of cream cheese, jam and peanut butter; nothing fancy but super handy to get something in you quickly to get going for the day. Close to other resort restaurants at GBC (Infinity, across the street) or Ocean Club West (Solana!, 2min walk to the left) or The Oasis (Isolana, 2min walk to the right) should you want something a little more substantial - Small resort, 42 units in 3 buildings with an elevator (at least in building A) that includes 2 pools, a hot tub, Tiki Bar, 2 BBQs and lovely landscaping; bushes of colourful beautiful flowers, a variety of palm trees, giant aloe, all really lush. If you need more amenities, all of your needs may be met very close by. Reception staff were really friendly, kind and helpful always, and shout out to Oliver, thank you for your hospitality! - AMAZING LOCATION and within walking distance to all of the good stuff: restaurants, convenience shops, Graceway Gourmet, and the main Grace Bay Road with all the shops, duty-free, cafes, access to resorts and more restaurants. Only 15min drive from the airport. Fabulous. We come to Grace Bay for the bounty of flora and fauna, the sea life, the chill vibe, and of course, the beach that is incomparable to anywhere else in North America. The ocean is a masterclass in all of the blues, with sand that is so white, soft and fine. Water so clear you can see fish without a snorkel in shallow waters. Incredible wall for divers! I just can’t explain my love for this place. It is pure peace, beauty and harmony: like, transformative beauty. Food is top notch on the island, cafes and shops are awesome, stylish and not to mention that it is a really safe place overall. I will 1000% return. With all of my most sincere and warmest wishes Thank You VDM and TCI: Beautiful by Nature. Package was booked through Voyages Bergeron with Air Canada Vacations: everything went well. If you have any questions, or want any more details, please feel free to reach out : )

Lovely stay. Appreciated the kind front desk and beach services providers. Small pool but easy access to the beach. Beds were very firm (could have benefitted from a nice memory foam topper). Pack mosquito repellent especially if you plan on spending time near the pool or breakfast area.
If you got an infant/toddler, this place may be for you!

If you have an infant/toddler, this place is a solid choice. We got a two bedroom suite that has living room space, washer/dryer and a kitchen. They have cribs and high chairs upon request. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. Shout to out Oliver, he was very helpful with restaurant recommendations! Restaurants there are very expensive, for example, my wife and I ordered one app, two entrees, one alcoholic beverage and one nonalcoholic beverage. It averaged out to about $115 usd per meal so we started to appreciate the kitchen a bit more. Haha. But one restaurant I wouldn’t mind going back to is Mr Grouper, it’s a local eats establishment and it was delicious, mainly seafood but got some other stuff as well! Try the conch fritter, yum! Minor downfall with the hotel was that there was no restaurant or room service on the premises and it’s not beachfront but it wasn’t a big deal to us. Some people care but beach is 3 min walk. Now if I were to come back to Turks, would I stay here again? Yes, I probably would.
