Fantastic

epehrson (Duluth, Minnesota) on Oct 11, 2024

I had a fantastic three-day stay. From the moment I checked in at the front desk to entering my immaculate suite, everything was perfect. Each day, my room was refreshed, and the staff thoughtfully folded my loose shirts and pants that I had left at the end of the bed. After enjoying dinner downtown, I returned to find my bed turned down with cozy slippers waiting for me, making me feel truly pampered. In addition I was lucky in the casino all three nights.

When hotels lie to their status customers

Sven-Hennig (Bergen auf Rügen) on Oct 11, 2024

Yesterday I was at the Conrad Hotel Las Vegas, which, as is well known, belongs to Hilden. Now, in recent years, hotels have repeatedly tweaked their hotel programs and worsened benefits. So far, so straightforward, after all, it's not an end in itself. But what the Conrad has done today is rather difficult. I had a reservation booked with Hilton for business. A rather interesting business program. When I arrived at the hotel, it was about 2:00 p.m. and therefore still before the actual check-in time. So I offered to leave my luggage here and come back at 5:00 p.m. In my preferences, I have “upper floor” and “a little further away from the elevator”. So far, not so difficult to understand, and one of the benefits of Hilton Diamond status is the upgrade, up to the suite category. However, the employee explained to me that they don't want to upgrade to a suite for Diamond members here, and anyway, it wouldn't be possible because it's a third-party booking. These are, for example, bookings made through tour operators or booking portals, where the hotel programs can understandably restrict the benefits. However, the statement in this case is nonsense, since it is merely an assignment of the booking to a business customer, i.e. a company; all other benefits are available through this booking gate. Of course, I could buy the upgrade to a suite for the reasonable price of $220. When I asked how the suite could be unavailable for the free upgrade but available for the paid option, I didn't get an answer other than “we dont do this' Unfortunately, when a hotel visit starts like this, the guest tends to be a bit more critical of other aspects, and that was the case here too. The room wasn't really clean; it wasn't extremely dirty either, but it wasn't really well cleaned. Towels were missing, it was directly opposite the elevator and on a lower floor. So everything that could be read about preferences was simply not taken into account for the time being. The employee was generally friendly, but did not give the impression that she was really interested in her job, and repeatedly pointed out that she couldn't do anything about all of this, but that it was a management issue. After the room service had also been unsuccessful and late, the food was cold and was brought in a cardboard box and plastic bag in a five-star hotel. Well, that's another issue, but it's not a typical issue for the Conrad Hotel in Vegas, but often in the US in general. Instead of staying two nights, I decided to check out the following day and was greeted by the manager on duty at check-out. Oh, suddenly I had the opportunity to get an upgrade to a suite without any problems after all, since I had already opened a case via the diamond hotline (which, by the way, is always great). And it would all be very straightforward. They apologized half-heartedly, but there was nothing they could do about it now anyway. It's not about getting a bigger suite, but rather about the fact that I don't like being lied to by a hotel. And that so obviously, that it is verifiable and understandable. The Conrad Hotel is otherwise a pretty good place, the rooms are modern, the pool area is huge and probably one of the best in Las Vegas, the staff, at least at the reception, is sometimes a bit listless and the waiting times are extremely long at peak times. After moving rooms yesterday, I didn't feel like moving again today. And in case the hotel reads this, the case is #221297688.
