Exceptional Experience and Memorable Vacation

Recently returned from a week at Secrets Akumal and we are still basking in the glow of an incredible vacation. Almost everyone we encountered on the Secrets team went out of their way to be helpful and ensure we were having an exceptional vacation. A few notes about the resort: • Stunning view of the water from the beach, ocean view and ocean front rooms. You get to see multiple shades of blues and aquas which is gorgeous. Palm trees dot the shore and it is like you are looking at "island vibes" calendar. • Ocean and beach: Snorkeling right off the beach is AMAZING. Even in the swimming area (versus the protected turtle nesting zone, you need a guide to go there which is easy to do with the resort; if you try to go on your own, authorities will stop you in the water) we saw several large turtles and lots of fish. Akumal means turtle and is named for the abundance of turtles living here. There are parts of the beach that are rocky when getting into the water. We found that if we walked into the ocean from a spot in front of the lifeguard tower, and walked slowly just in case, it was mostly smooth sand. We saw several people limping and one getting medical attention after stepping on a sharp rock. Or just avoid the issue by wearing water shoes. • Food: Some meals were just ok and some were great. Buffet is open for breakfast and lunch, a la carte restaurants or special events with a buffet in the evening (some special events offer the opportunity to purchase a bottle of wine and reserve a table in the front of the stage vs a communal table). • Rooms: Clean and well appointed. Rain and handheld shower. Very little privacy from bathroom to room so be sure you are comfortable with your traveling companion. Housekeeping is consistent and it is always nice to enjoy that service twice a day (regular daily cleaning and turndown service). Recommend leaving a few dollars in the mini bar for the person that refills it. There is also evening ice service. • Tips: Yes, it is all inclusive. Not all guests tip. We prefer to leave something on the table or directly tip staff for meals and drink service. Kindness for hard work and the extra appreciation with a tip go a long way, especially when it is really hot and the staff are working hard to make your vacation more enjoyable. • Preferred Club: Do you really need it? No, but it is a nice spot to have a nightcap or snack. Another benefit is a separate reserved beach area and access to the Greek restaurant. • Crowd: We saw several beach weddings during our stay and there was one very large incentive trip (sales people that won the trip by making their goals). The large group was...distracting. We didn't let it take away from our trip, however, there were a few people with the group that were uncouth (loud belching at dinner, did not adhere to dress code, loud music on the beach, phone going off every few minutes...). Not the hotels fault but wanted to give fair warning to others there may be large events or groups on property. Highly recommend this resort in all aspects and in particular, would like to recognize the following staff members for their significant contributions to our dreamy vacation on this property: • Diana, Building Concierge: We had interacted with Diana on a previous visit after several things went poorly. Diana is now a building concierge and coordinated with our building concierge to meet all requests and keep an eye on details, especially for a special occasion. Our travel was delayed so we arrived several hours after initially expected, and after the concierge's workday had ended, however, Diana waited for us to ensure a personal greeting and welcome. This interaction set the tone for a great week. • Fernanda, Building Concierge: As the concierge for our building, Fernanda was very personable and responsive. She recognized us immediately and always greeted us by name. Any time we reached out with questions or requests (either in person or through the very convenient option via WhatsApp), Fernanda replied promptly and assisted with the request. We so appreciated her attention to detail and following through. Both Diana and Fernanda truly care about the guest experience and it shows! • Augustin: Bali Bed Beach Concierge making sure everything was setup for us to enjoy the day on the beach and organized a special celebration. • Erik: Bali Bed beach waiter for several days during our stay. Erik got to know our order, was friendly and made sure our drinks stayed topped up. • Ana: Bali Bed beach waiter provided excellent service! Ana was thoughtful, attentive and helped make the day that much more enjoyable. • Jorge: Manager at Portofino that helped execute a special moment and dessert during a special occasion dinner. Thank you! • Sarai: Cocktail server at the Preferred Club and at the Lobby bar. Lovely person that helped us feel taken care of and right at home. • Oswaldo: Main server for our table during the Fire show. Oswaldo checked on us frequently and helped meet a few special requests contributing to a great dinner and show experience. • Maria Jose: Hostess from several nights. Recognized us and was very sweet and friendly. It starts the meal out on the right note to interact with Maria Jose first. • Agustin: Manager at Bordeaux, ensured our final night was on point making helpful suggestions about our meals, bringing extra side tables, and coordinating a special dessert with the chef. He even brought out the chef to speak with us which was an extra special touch! Great experience here. • Javier: Chief Concierge, assisted us with a special request upon arrival and sought our feedback upon departure. This interaction was truly the icing on the cake for a wonderful stay. We felt like very valued guests and shared that this trip set the standard for next time, we were very pleased with the overall experience. We noticed and appreciated Javier's leadership with his team and the recognition he gave both Diana and Fernanda. Thank you as well to Miguel, the Chief Concierge Assistant!
