Went in expecting 4-star; Walked away with 3-star... at best....

TouristFromDFW (Dallas, Texas) on Mar 21, 2025

This review is from a real traveler who has frequented 20+ all inclusive resorts. I traveled with my wife and kids to this resort, and while knowing it was not a 5-star (wife and I travel to many all-in...clusives; went in expecting at least a 4-star), I struggle to even admit if I came away feeling as if it were a 3-star experience. If you are choosing this resort because of the beach, you'll get what you came for. The beach is great, water is blue and on the beautiful 7-mile beach. You won't find a better sunset in the world! However, if you want to get a prime set of chairs or daybed, you better expect to get up and reserve it by 5:45 or 6 in the morning, as they were quickly snatched up each and every day we were there. And the beach towels... I have never seen a resort so stingy with their beach towels. Either low supply, low cleaning/turnover of old towels, or something... I don't know, but they will not exceed your expectation if you hope to quickly grab one whenever you need it. The resort itself is very much showing it's age. Whether it is the decking surrounding several of the pools & restaurants, the quality of the rooms, if you go in expecting any sort of 4-star quality room, please quickly adjust your expectations to 3-star or less. As some prior reviews have said, the rooms are very dimly/poorly lit, the minibars are very small and hold only a few drinks, and the bathrooms have severely stained/dated grouting throughout all of its fixtures. The TVs, phone, coffee maker and even safes are all very dated, and the true positive I'd only give the rooms are that the toilets flushed well and the mini-split AC units blew very cold air. We knew coming to this resort that it was a little bit older, but the age of the place once we walked in quickly hit us in the face. The restaurants were unbelievably slow in terms of food service. Drinks came back quickly enough, but the food came out close to 1-hour, 1-hour & a half after ordering every night we stayed (5-nights). Whether it was the staff being bogged down and not able to turn tickets over quickly enough, the training of the staff, I'm not entirely sure... but I was astonished at how slow everything was turned out. Even on nights where we would get to a restaurant early with very few people expecting faster service, it was not the case. The food itself was good, but the presentation & cleanliness of the restaurants never wowed me. They are on island time, so know that going in. And the drinks, whether at the pool bars, beach service, or in the restaurants -- very much middle of the road. One day, I don't know how this is possible, but they ran out of ingredients for pina coladas... as in no pina coladas for one whole day (I tried many pool bars and even several restaurants --- same response). The staff. Maybe it was a cultural difference or an expectation that I had going in, but I wanted to feel like we hit it off with the staff and that they were happy we were there, but despite our attempts (as well as our tipping & friendliness), it never felt truly reciprocated. The staff truly seemed unemotional or dispassionate, and it was felt the moment from when we arrived to the moment we left. We did not complain, we did not voice any frustrations, nothing, that warranted any reciprocal attitude like that. Whether it was the front desk staff, the bar tenders, waiters, beach staff, etc (although, whoever was the beach activity girl, while we never participated in her activities, she seemed truly in the moment trying to get people to have a good time, so kudos to her!). And the beach towel ladies, they seemed most frustrated when asking for a towel. I get it, we are on vacation and the staff is working a job, but in all the resorts & locations we have visited, we have never walked away with that feeling that we felt or saw from the staff. There are several other things that I could add, but I do not want to seem bitter (as that is not my purpose in writing this review). I truly just want to inform other travelers on helping them adjust any expectations that they may or may not have in an attempt to better acclimate to the true reality of the resort. We may have simply caught them at a low moment in their quality & deliverance of service, but if I had any close family or friends thinking about this resort, I would quickly advise them to explore other options. I think once you travel to 5-star resorts, your mind & hopes for your experience rarely sway from that expectation of resort & service, and my takeaway may be a product of that. But fair and honest feedback, I struggle to even call this a 3-star.

Horrible Vacation

John R (Chicago, Illinois) on Mar 14, 2025

This hotel is definitely not a 5 star hotel. The rooms are very dated and dimly lit. Because the buildings are built on a slight slant, the doors in the bathroom would not close all the way. They tout 5 re...staurants, but only 3 were ever opened - unless they count the buffet as a restaurant. The Asian and Italian restaurants were our worst experiences. From the time they took our order to the time we received our food, it was a solid 2 hours! The Italian place never even took our drink orders, so we went to the pool bar to get drinks. Both nights, members of our party left and went to the buffet rather than wait any longer. During the day, we struggled to find any chairs or towels. I could understand if the resort was sold out, but it wasn't. The pool parties they promoted never even happened. On our last morning I turned the TV on to check the weather for our flights and they had shut the TV off. Our friends encountered the same issue. When my wife and I went to the front desk to complain, we came back only to find out we were locked out of our room. They had to call maintenance to come drill holes to get the locks off so we could retrieve our luggage. Horrible experience. I do not recommend this resort to anyone. Save your money and book elsewhere!
