Three couple staying at Princess Senses The Mangrove.

Three adult couples went together for two weeks to this hotel in early March. On checking in one couple were put in block 1 another in block 3 and the third in block 4, which we could not understand why, a...fter two days the couple in block 1 were moved to block 3, which was far better and closer together. Suites were large and all beach facing, cleaned every day and spotless. No wines or spirits in the rooms, which, for the money it cost to stay there, very disappointing. When I requested wine in the rooms, I was told I could have a glass of wine delivered but I would be charged 15 dollars for room service, needless to say, I turned this down. Most of the restaurants are situated together, half on the adults side half on family. We found a lot of inconsistencies in the service and food on offer. In the buffet restaurant there was plenty on offer at breakfast, lunch and dinner, we used this restaurant most days. , but the place lacked atmosphere, it is a large restaurants but very few people in it. We went to the Teppanyaki on our second evening, we had to wait one and a half hours for our food, we were told , it was due to staff shortage. Disappointing and didn’t go back. Best restaurant for service and quality was Robert’s Flame, we all went there three times. Most of the evening entertainment was on the family side . Adult side, most nights was like a ghost town with no ground floor bars being open after 9pm. Overall, enjoyed our stay manly due to the staff who were excellent, but would not go back there. Better value to be had at other all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean.
Adults only - Couples trip

We stay at the Princess Senses Mangrove February 28-March 5th. We are frequent travellers to Jamaica and have stayed in many resorts over the years, both with family and also adults only. For this trip, we... were looking for an adults only resort and while we hoped to be closer to Montego Bay, we ultimately decided to try Princess Senses The Mangrove as it was so new and the reviews were very positive. The Princess Senses is a fairly large resort, with the Mangrove side being the adults only and the rest of the resort is family. Staying on the adults only side you could access the entire resort but staying on the family side, you could only access that side. I will try to include as much as I can in this review, so it may be lengthy, but I appreciate full details when I am reading other reviews when trying to make an informed decision about which resort to stay at. Pros: The resort is gorgeous. From what I can tell, every room has an ocean view, which is such a nice added touch without having to "upgrade" for a better view. Staff were very friendly and there seemed to be an abundance of staff always around. Food was good overall. Rooms were beautiful and spacious. We stayed in a swimout suite (not platinum) and loved it. Our suite was close to one of the bars servicing the smaller adults only pool, which was great as when we wanted to hang at the room, we could still get drink service right from our back little patio. Highly recommend the swimout! Food was good, bed was comfy - a little on the firm side, which I like, but some may find it too hard. The adults side was fairly quiet, they definitely were not anywhere near full capacity, which was nice as you could have some fun or chill out without much noise bothering you. You also didn't have to play the towel game for chairs at the pool which is always a hassle! The family side definitely seemed busier, we only went over to that side for the restaurants. This said, despite being under capacity, when we arrived our room was not ready yet, even though it was almost check in time. We went to the buffet to grab a snack while we waited and came back, still not ready. It had been a long travel day and we just wanted to get into our suite and unwind. We couldn't understand why our room was not ready yet, when the resort was so under capacity yet so heavily staffed. Cons: For the price you pay to stay at this resort, I expect certain things to be included. If you are not "platinum", room service is not included. You can order it, but at an extra cost. This reminds me of the Sandals resorts set up where you must be in a certain category of a room in order to get things such as room service. Platinum status/rooms give you included room service and access to a restaurant and bar that the rest of the resort cannot access. It did not seem worth the price to upgrade for us. Also, they ask you if you are celebrating anything (as most resorts do) which we were, a big birthday. Most other places would put a "happy birthday" banner on your door and leave a little treat in your room, etc. but here they had a list for all the things you could purchase for your celebration (flowers, balloons, etc). Ultimately, I wouldn't care whether they acknowledged my birthday or not, but the fact that other places do this to go the extra mile and here they were trying to make a buck off every little thing, is annoying. The resort is fairly far from the airport. Depending on what time you arrive will also determine how long it might take you to get to the resort because of traffic through the towns on the way. We booked a private transfer as we were only there for 5 days and did not want to spend any extra time on a bus shuttle than we had to, but it was still quite a hike. Keep this in mind if you are travelling with children to the family side as it makes the travel day that much longer. Communication is odd as well. One day we got back to our room to a letter and a plate of fruit, apologizing for something that happened and that we should rest assure management was looking into it. It did not say what the incident they were referring to was, and we had not had any incidents, so we were confused. I think they may have gotten the room number wrong and perhaps it was another guest they meant to send this to. Also on the last day we were there, the air conditioning was not working in the room for the majority of the day. There was no notice of this and when you called the front desk, you would get different versions of what was happening and what time things would be restored. And the last night we were there, we planned to go to the Italian restaurant, only to get there and find out they were closed for the night. All the restaurants close one night a week on a rotating schedule, however, there is no notice of which ones in advance, which is annoying. They have an app (yet it's not really up to date) and they give you a printed schedule when you arrive - but that also doesn't seem to have all the daily happenings on it. It would be so easy to fix some of these things (again, you have the app, use it!) but hopefully with time these things will be smoothed out. The staff, overall, were great. Some definitely went above and beyond while others did not seem to try very hard. For example at the restaurants, some would make sure your meal was done as you had asked (ie modification due to food intolerances etc) where others would give you a hard time, only to ultimately end up taking the food back and doing it anyway - and then you would be sitting there with no food while everyone else ate. It was just really strange. I'm not sure if they just are not experienced enough yet to fully understand the hospitality business or what the issue was. The only other thing I would mention that might be considered a con is the fact that you are at an adults only resort, however, many of the restaurants, bars and amenities (ie gym, water park, etc) are on the family side. I'm sure there are things I missed, feel free to reach out if you have specific questions. While it seems like I have more cons than pros, overall the resort was lovely and we wish we had booked a longer visit. I'm not sure if I will return again in the near future though, mainly due to how far it is from the airport and the price and what is/not included. The Secrets and/or Excellence resorts offer everyone the same experience, regardless of what room you book and their resorts are fully adults only, no sharing restaurants or other amenities with children/families.
