I highly recommend this resort.. Everything was easily assessible..We travelled in a group of 8 with Transat.. Entertainment staff, cleaning staff and bar service were exemplary.. Drive from airport was 45... mins.. Check in was quick. Rooms are good, no complaints.. But I would recommend anyone to try and get the upgraded rooms..Heard they were better..Pool, beach..a little rocky in places but great. Always lots of loungers and towels available.. There were no locals on the beach tormenting you to buy their products and that was a plus for me..Food, LA cart restaurants were superb! Shopping in town of Puerta Plata was cheaper than on the resort..We reserved the resort taxi for a few hours for a reasonable price and he stayed with us the whole time.. It was a 15 min drive.. Highly recommend. I do not recommend the cataraman to paradise island through Transat because we sat on the bus 2 hours before cataraman trip and 2 hours returning back to resort.. It cost each of us 204.00…Never again..You can also go next door to the Playa bachata and enjoy amenities as well when you stay here..Also the cruise ship port sets right beside the resort.. It’s very visual and magical at night.. I will be back someday soon..
Great week at Senator Puerto Plata

Just returned from a week at Senator and had a great time. Room cleanliness was exceptional, buffet had good variety of food, including a morning omelette station and a lunch/dinner pasta station. You can ...also fill your reusable water bottles here. Julian at the buffet was great, wish we had seen him more often. We stayed in a luxury junior suite in block 3, which while we didn’t pay for it had a partial ocean view. The room was great, however the pullout couch is more of a two cushion futon that rests on the floor. It worked for our 1 teenager but is not a true pullout couch. Also if the light is on in the bathroom you can see through the frosted glass into the shower from the room. Would recommend a couple of magnets with hooks so you can hang a sheet or towel. While there were only 2 bottles of water in the mini bar on arrival the guys filling them will give you what you ask for. If you like ice in your room we would suggest bringing a small ice tray with you as there is a small freezer area in the fridge. While there is an ice bucket in the room there is no ice in the building blocks. You have to go to the lobby. We know these things for next time and have no complaints. We loved our week at Senator. We booked a couple of tours with the Turrismo office at the hotel and they were great. Reputable companies that provided great service for our excursions. We also enjoyed that you can see the cruise port from the property and that you have full access to the restaurants, bars, beach and pools next door at Playa Bachata. If walking towards the cruise port there is a public beach with a few local vendors and hair braiders. A 10 minute walk towards Playa Bachata leads to some wooden huts with vendors and tour sales. Vendors also visited the resort outside the buffet every weekday evening and on weekend afternoons. Their prices were reasonable compared to the stores that your excursion buses stop at. 2/3 of us are very picky eaters and we loved the Japanese restaurant. The chefs put on a great show too. Legends sports bar was also a hit for us for afternoon and evening snacks. It is very sports bar style with burgers, nachos, wings, mozzarella sticks, etc. We found all staff that we interacted with exceptionally friendly. There is no diet pop or Coke Zero in the mini bar. Nor can you request them. We had difficulties calling the front desk using the reception button on the phone, nor did the extension they provided us work.However picking up the phone and pressing only 0 connected us to the front desk. We have read reviews talking about elevators however there weren’t any in block 3. We weren’t expecting any either and it’s only a 2 storey building. If you don’t wish to take the bus from your tour package to/from the hotel, we took a private van from Ismael Tours which we booked through viator for $150 Canadian round trip (Air Transat wanted $300). Their service was superb. On time at airport exactly where they told us to meet and they arrived early to pick us up at hotel with a cooler of ice, pop and water. Nice clean vehicles, staff dressed in uniform and very professional.
