Beautiful resort with some exceptions

canadian_on_d_road (Toronto, Canada) on Feb 15, 2025

Third time in the Dominican, first time at this resort. My rating 4/5 for the hotel, and 2/5 for the type of guests it attracts.  Pros: Beautiful grounds, nature, pools, rooms, and beach. Most staff are p...leasant. Great for families. We were in building 1 on the third (top floor). Did not pay for an upgrade. Our room always had hot water. We had no mosquitoes but were facing the flat concrete view so maybe that helped to not attract them? No elevator but not an issue for us. The shuttle to get around was very frequent, while also easy enough to walk around too. Tips: The resort has an app to book the specialty restaurants which works really great! Don’t expect to get Italian the first night though. You can book for three nights out in advance. Every night at around 9pm the next window opens for bookings. For the Chinese restaurant (Tao), note that the top of the hour is for Teppenyaki, and the bottom of the hour is for a la carte. The coffee shop and ice cream shop are fantastic! In general the food is just meh! But are you in the DR to eat or for the sun and beach? Still better than Cuba resort food.  Cons: Very little vegetarian options and a lot of cross contamination going on. For example using the same utensils, not cleaning them when serving food, as well as allowing guests to use their hands to sprinkle parmesan on their pasta!!! No wonder many people are complaining they are getting sick from the food.  The room could use a garbage bin, space for toiletries, and a toilet brush. Otherwise I thought the rooms to be very clean, comfortable and fresh and modern feel. Nothing outdated.  Sun lounge chairs by the pool and beach can eventually be found, even while the resort is at full capacity. BUT it’s the guests who go mad because you moved their chair slightly, or don’t show up all day while leaving their towels occupying empty chairs. This is the kind of stuff that blows my mind. It’s not a cheap resort either. Makes me wonder if we had paid more, would we find cleaner/more respectful guests that don’t use their hands to pick up food at the buffet, or hog the chairs? Can the resort be blamed? For the food yes, for the chairs this is a common issue at most resorts, be it the DR, Mexico, Cuba.  Would I book here again? If I had young kids yes. As a couple, or if I were elderly maybe not.

Beautiful hotel food made us very ill for nearly 2 weeks

rebeccahunt0312 (Preston, United Kingdom) on Feb 15, 2025

The Food was a dismal and made me and my partner very sick with the runs for around 10 days of our 14day trip on and off. Speaking to other hotel guests it seemed to be a running theme which is really bad ...and clearly not being resolved. I complained to the manager of the hotel and asked for an upgrade to premium hoping that the food cooked in their establishments were a little better quality or prepared more safely but he didn’t care nor apologise for the food making me so sick and refused to upgrade us and said there’s no proof that the food is what is making you ill and nobody else has complained about the food when in actual fact I knew of at least 4 people who had complained about being ill from the food. It was more that he didn’t offer any condolences or consolation. and I was very fair and didn’t kick off or get angry I was really calm said you know I’ve spent £2500 coming on this holiday and I’ve been so sick I’m very sad about it He just rolled his eyes and said ok nothing I can do Very poor service by him Wilson the TUI rep didn’t do anything to help the situation nor apologised for the pain or inconvenience However 90% of the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful the animation team were absolutely fantastic especially Francisco! My boyfriend Scott really got along with him and they all got us to join in the activities which were fun I must The speakers on the beach and the theatre at night for the shows are FAR too loud and deafening I had to cover my ears a few times ! The beach and sea and pool was perfect ! The hotel room we stayed in 1374 was full of mosquitos that bit me in the night every night so bring a few plug ins for your room if possible and strong repellent ! The coffee at the coffee shop was amazing !
