Serious Concerns

The breakfast buffet’s food is good. Rooms are a nice size and clean. Housekeeping was welcoming and pleasant. I believe her name was Maryntha (sp??) Front desk staff was welcoming and check-in was efficie...nt. As a solo traveler, I appreciated the young lady lowering her voice when asking how many keys I wanted and describing how to get to my room. My biggest concern was with the wait staff in the pool area and restaurant! Yes, service was slow, but my biggest issue was the blatant disregard for me (and by observation) other guests who were not Caucasian. The wait staff cater to Caucasian guests, and on several occasions, while lounging by the pool, I had to ask for assistance to place an order, but they continuously asked Caucasian guests if they needed anything and checked-in with them every so often. The worst experience was on my last day at the breakfast buffet when the same young lady who checked me in for 4 consecutive days and always asked my room number and name, but I noticed, she didn’t always ask other guests their name. (She’d enter their room numbers in the computer and seat them at a table). Then, when the waiter brought the receipt to my table, I told him my room number was incorrect (which it should not have been because the young lady at the front entered my room number into the computer and checked it and my name before seating me). The waiter asked me not once, but TWICE, if I was sure that my room number was 1082 and not 1081! Absolutely ridiculous especially because he was so “busy” that he never came to my table except to leave the receipt! However, he asked other guests if they wanted coffee, tea, or needed anything! I was more than happy to leave Courtyard by Marriott because wait staff members’ overt and blatant racist micro-aggressions were unacceptable!! There were other instances that I won’t write here to not extend the length of this review. As a first time visitor, I certainly did NOT experience the “One Happy Island” and “everyone is so friendly in Aruba,”during my stay at Courtyard by Marriott!

Our waitress, Zulky, was great! She made our experience in Aruba great! The food was good even though the menu options didn't change from day to day. The people and the atmosphere was good! We really enjo...yed ourselves! The rooms were clean and neat!

Great home away from home vacation!

All of the staff kept referencing this is our home away from home and every single person made us feel that way! Happy and service oriented staff. The food, the atmosphere the pool the rooms. It was a smal...ler hotel, which we appreciate appreciated and made it feel more intimate.

The resort doesn't deliver much. Service is ok, but always expecting tips. Service from Sully or Zully was extremely rude. Food good. They gave me a free appetizer every day, but I felt embarrassed to ask ...for it. Zumba in the water only happened on 2 of the 7 days I was at the resort. Live music was very weak every day. Good gym. Great pools. Prices are similar to the rest of the island. What I liked least: upon arrival, they make you add a credit card and charge $50 for damages. If there is no damage, they refund the amount 14/15 days after check-out. However, I wanted to pay for everything possible with my debit card that I made and took exclusively for this trip. I registered the credit card only for that $50. They never told me, at any time, that if I had any expenses at the resort, they would try to charge those expenses daily to the credit card. After finding out about this, I started paying for each expense directly with my debit card (which I only found out was possible later). Then they tried to charge $300 on that credit card and later said it was a mistake. Very unpleasant. Thank goodness my credit card is blocked because Brazil is a country of scams.

PROFESSIONAL STAFF

The staff is excellent and responsive.Nove.ber and Marvin at the front desk helped us through some difficulties, not caused by the Courtyard, but by health concerns. I wish that I could remember EVERY STAF...F MEMBERS name so I could thank them personally.
