5th time and gutted to say, sadly disappointed

Ashleighlaura88 (Manchester, United Kingdom) on Mar 29, 2025

This was my 5th visit to this hotel, the last time I came was 2018 and I was so sad to see how much it had gone down hill as I kept returning previously because it was so amazing. Firstly, I’d emailed the... hotel twice in advance with a few requests and questions yet no one bothered to get back to me. We arrived around 4pm and we waited 1hr and 20mins for our room to be ready, we were advised our original room had to be changed as the AC wasn’t working. Previously I loved this hotel for all the amazing staff, the fresh food and drinks and basically everything.. now I’ll list the things that really disappointed me and made me probably not want to return again… Rooms: these are the same, great size and enough room etc the main problem we encountered was almost every day we didn’t have enough towels or water in our room and we had to continuously call to reception to get this sorted, we also had no do not disturb sign to hang on the door, turns out this didn’t really matter as most days our room wasn’t even cleaned until 3-5pm not ideal if you wanted to go back early etc. Restaurants: this was the worse experience for me, daily, at lunch or dinner trying to get even just a plate was hard work, then you’d eventually get one and had to keep asking for cutlery, to which we’d be told, she’ll sort it, she never did so we ended up just going getting our own, also most times, we’d almost finished our meals before even being asked if we wanted water, let alone anything else. Food was good nothing changed there but wasn’t topped up enough, had to keep asking if there was more and left stood around waiting for ages for it to be topped up. Previously the restaurant staff were amazing and always so lovely, now, they seem so uninterested and grumpy and it’s so sad to see, however if you’re there whilst a manager is present it’s a very different story! This seemed to be the case for both Cornwall and Montego restaurants. Snack bar: again, absolutely heartbreaking for me!! Everything used to be made all fresh. You’d order from your seat and there was a machine you could help yourself to drinks, now all the options I used to love (grilled cheese sandwich and fresh jerk chicken) are gone, it’s precooked hamburgers, precooked hot dogs and chicken nuggets all warmed up. Such a disappointment. Bars: again.. used to be amazing, all the staff I used to love and know so well have moved on, I can only imagine why. We used to get fresh cocktails made every time you ordered, with fresh fruit blended to order, now, all my favourite cocktails can’t be made or they’re all pre made in a big container so you can’t adjust them, and they won’t make it fresh for you, they just tell you it’s already made up. Then there’s a few other little things that have made the hotel a disappointment for me.. they used to offer free shuttle busses to and from the best party spots like Pier 1 and Margaritaville, that’s all stopped so you have to make your own way now, many people may not know these places exist or how to get there or feel safe to do so, so this was always an amazing addition. The gym needs revamping, ok not everyone goes to the gym on holiday but it’s too small, no AC and very dated equipment. Lastly, the WiFi, is absolutely shocking can only seem to get it in the lobby and the room, everywhere else it’s very intermittent, no chance at the pool or beach. This being said none of this “ruined” our holiday, we have so much fun in Jamaica that we don’t let these little things ruin our time it was just all very frustrating and made me not want to return on my next time to JA. Shout out to the staff that actually made our trip though DJ Tino at Montego, met him 10 years ago and he’s still amazing! Fresh, MJ, Crackers and Rosè the entertainment team all amazing and Yanika and Bigs at the Montego bar ????

Family Vacation

Lisa C on Mar 28, 2025

Decent resort. Very small, very basic, and very clean. Resort could use upgrading beds in rooms to Queen size and change sister resort restaurant to Japanese/ Teppanyaki. Add icecream parlour by beach rest...aurant. This resort is a great choice for a getaway if reasonably priced.

We LOVED the Royal Decameron Cornwall. We travelled as a couple in March of 2024. BEACH: Beautiful soft sandy bottom beach, water was warm and calm and beautiful. Beach was small though and really hard t...o snag a chair. We actually heard there was a brawl one morning when we were there over beach chairs LOL. POOL: We spent most of our time partying at the pool as it was hard to get a chair on the beach. Really nice pool and so much fun. Cannonballing all day while the planes flew by in and out of the airport. ROOMS: The rooms were super clean and nice. Big king bed, very comfortable and modern. Glass shower stall in the bathroom. Every room had a nice balcony with ocean views of the beach. Super super gorgeous view. STAFF: Staff felt a little cold at first, but quickly warmed up. We loved Snoop and Georgia at the bar! And Swipa and Fabian on the beach! And the trivia at the bar was always a fun way to start off the day drinking. FOOD/DRINKS: Food was deliciousss, but limited and repetitive. Breakfast was awesome. Jerk chicken was unreal. Regardless of how good it was though, we started craving other options near the end of the week as it was the exact same thing every day. Drinks were good - we liked trying the daily specials. We were with a lot of beer drinkers and they only seemed to have small cans of Presidente. Nothing on tap and we pretty much drank them dry. EXTRAS: Wifi worked great throughout the resort and in the rooms which was really convenient as that's not always a guarantee at resorts. They also had hot tubs that we loved soaking in. We also had access to the pools/bars/restaurants at the Royal Decameron Montego resort next door, but it was pretty run down and had almost no beach at all. So definitely happy we chose Cornwall for only a little over $100 more per person. This was our first time in Jamaica and overall we loved it. We made some really great friends on the resort who we still talk to to this day, as well as staff through social media. Jamaica just has such a party atmosphere, and we loved it compared to previous trips to Cuba/DR. It is one of the cheaper resort options in Jamaica, so we had no complaints at all. We hope to return. Felt like home.

Two Weeks Holiday

Samantha W (South Wales, United Kingdom) on Mar 26, 2025

My husband and I just got back from a two-week holiday at the Decameron Cornwall Beach. Here’s our honest review. Arrival The hotel is just a 10-minute bus ride from the airport. It’s perfect when you’ve ...just landed after a long flight. We were greeted, checked in, and given a drink in our room when we arrived. The check-in process was quick, easy, and simple. There are a few things they ask you to sign for when you check in. They ask if you want two room keys. If you do, you need to sign to say you got them. If you lose one, you’ll be charged $50. If you damage one, you’ll also be charged $50. Your wristband for the all-inclusive drinks is $20 if you lose it. Your beach towel is $25 if you lose it, and the room remote control is $20 if you lose or damage it. But don’t worry, just take care of what they give you and you won’t have to worry about any extra charges. We got a room on the second floor, and the view was amazing! The sunrise and sunset were breathtaking, and everything in between was just beautiful. By the way, all the rooms face the sea or beach, as far as I can tell. ?? Our room had a nice-sized balcony that also faced the pool area. So, you could still enjoy the pool vibes even if you weren’t ready to leave your room or had just come back. The room had a comfortable king-size bed, plenty of storage, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a mini bar stocked with two cans of cola and two cans of Red Stripe every day, a 55-inch flat-screen TV, a safe, an iron, and an ironing board. The bathroom was also nice-sized with a walk-in shower. My only complaint was that the bathroom could be a bit cleaner. It was clean and was cleaned every day, but there was still a bit of limescale buildup on the tap and in the shower, and the shower itself was only lukewarm at best and leaked out of the shower door. Personally, I prefer a hot shower, so these showers weren’t very enjoyable for me. Also, it was hit or miss if you got a towel for the floor. Sometimes, only two towels were replenished, and other times, the full amount was provided. The hotel had great facilities, including a lovely-sized pool with sunbeds and day beds, a beautiful beach, restaurants, a snack bar, a lobby bar, a pool bar, a coffee shop, and amazing views. Plus, there’s a hotel next door called Montego Bay, and you can use their facilities even if you’re not staying there. The staff was friendly and helpful. They were always ready to assist us with anything we needed. Overall, we had a great time at the hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The staff were mostly great. The lady at the coffee bar was always friendly, even when you were just getting in and out of the lift. She’d greet you with a smile and a morning or afternoon hello. The same was true for the boy who worked there most of the time. He too always helped my husband break down $20 into $1. The main lady on the desk in the mornings for breakfast was always welcoming and friendly. She even told us we had a Jamaican surname! Rosè on the entertainment team was hilarious. He had these little sayings he’d come out with and was really nice to talk to. He even took the time to come and have a walk around the pool and beach to say hi and ask your name a few times during our stay. The same was true for the main lady on the snack bar. Her service was friendly, fast, and entertaining. You never went a second without something when she was around. She’d even go out of her way to go to the bar for you! Food/Restaurant (not à la carte) Cornwall Bay This was the main restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during busy times. You had to wait in line, and there were more than one occasion where there were no cups, cutlery, or plates. Then this would spill into the food, where there was nothing left and didn’t seem to be replenished. One morning, I asked how long the bacon would be, and I was told 8 minutes. 30 minutes later, there was still none. So, I’d suggest trying to avoid the first hour of them opening as this seemed to be the busiest time. However, depending on how many people are actually at the hotel at that time, this could change. For example, our first breakfast after we arrived was surprisingly quiet for breakfast, but as the week went on and more so our second week, this definitely seemed to get busier. Food/Restaurant Montego Bay Side and Cornwall Bech My personal preference is to eat basic and beige, so the choices were mostly adventurous for me. However, my husband thoroughly enjoyed the other types of food on offer. We used this side of the hotel a couple of times in the evening. The food was pretty much the same as the Cornwall side, but there were a few differences. We found the restaurant on this side to be a bit brighter, bigger, and more open and airy. It was also conveniently located for evening entertainment, since you were already there. Snack Bar The snack bar was open every day and offered a variety of snacks. We used the snack bar most of the time for lunch and always enjoyed our choices, which were usually hotdogs, burgers, and fries. Entertainment The entertainment was held at the next hotel, Montego Bay, every night at 9:30 pm. It started with reggae music and ended with steel drums, and it was always a great time. Holiday Summary We had an amazing holiday! The hotel wasn’t perfect, but for a 3-star hotel, it was really good. We had a fantastic time, and the little things that weren’t quite right just need to be learned from and improved. We loved the fact that we could use both hotels, and we loved the hotel itself. We’re definitely going to be back in the future!

This resort was the perfect destination for my group of friends and me

Jenna G on Mar 25, 2025

This resort was the perfect destination for my group of friends and me. We would absolutely go back in a heartbeat and did not want to leave on our final day. We stayed at the Cornwall resort but had full ...access to the sister resort right next door. It was definitely a bit of a party scene as they liked to play loud music, but we did not mind at all. The employees made the experience all the better as they were super friendly and provided entertainment all day, every day. We would like to send a shout-out to JJ, Rose, Junior, Damion, Yanique, Bugz, Fresh, and Maurice for providing excellent service. We were thinking about leaving the resort to explore the area but never needed to because we were having such a great time on-site. The only thing we unanimously decided that we would change was the lack of hot water, but it honestly was not even that necessary because the weather was so warm. Other than that, we would spend our days drinking rum on the beach, eating at the buffet or snack bar, moving over to the swim-up bar and drinking more rum, playing some volleyball or pickleball, enjoying the sunset, eating at the Olivia Restaurant, clubbing, and do it all over again. Like I said, we would all return to the Royal Decameron in a heartbeat. Thank you again to the employees for providing such an amazing experience. - Jenna (seven seven) and the Clemson Gang
