Perfect location, friendly staff and a great value

We stayed at Tropicana for 6 nights during a trip to Disneyland/California Adventure. Overall, it was a great value for the price. Tropicana is a Disney Good Neighbor hotel. Our room was clean and comfort...able, and we felt safe there. Best of all, you're across the street from the Disneyland entrance, which is a big bonus. We could easily return to the hotel mid-day to drop off souvenirs, rest or freshen up as needed. We checked in late in the evening since our incoming flight was delayed, and the front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. As an unexpected perk, we were able to watch some of the Disneyland park castle fireworks from the walkway outside our room (our room was toward the front of the property). Tropicana does not offer a buffet or grab and go breakfast, but the hotel store (The Cove on Harbor) across from the lobby offers convenience foods and snacks, including hot coffee, pints of milk and a surprisingly wide variety of single-serving breakfast cereals, along with plastic silverware. We picked up these items each day for a quick breakfast in our room before heading to the parks. (For those of you who would like a drink after a long day at the parks, The Cove also sells cold beer and other alcoholic beverages.) A refrigerator is provided in the room. Daily housekeeping is limited to emptying the trash and providing fresh towels as needed. Full service housekeeping is provided every third day of your stay. We felt this was sufficient for us. A small, clean laundry room with dryers and nice, newer front-load washers (we used them during our visit) is also available. Detergent and dryer sheets can be purchased at The Cove. The only minor issue was that our room had a gap of at least half an inch under the door (although I honestly didn't notice it until a couple days into our stay). We never saw any spiders or insects in the room, but I could see this being a possibility in the warmer/drier seasons, since the rooms open to the outside. It's possible our room simply needed replacement weather stripping/door sweep. At any rate, this wasn't a big enough deal to impact our stay.
Adequate & No frills. Great location.

I just returned from a 4 night stay with 2 of my sons. I booked the Tropicana based on the proximity to Disneyland as well as an impressively high score from a very prolific and reputable theme park blog. ...The good news is, the location REALLY IS that amazing. The bad news is, if I had to use one word to describe this hotel when considering everything except the location, that word would be “underwhelming.” When I say this is a bare-bones, no-frills motel (yes motel- this is a motel, not a hotel), I mean it. There is not one thing about the room or grounds that is above average. This motel is adequate and that’s it. It’s clean enough, but definitely not pristine. The mattresses are not super comfortable but not the worst. The TVs are without smart capabilities so it’s a chore to find something to watch. The cars are parked right up next to the rooms so there are often people right outside your room. (We brought sound machine for night time and it helped tremendously!) The bathroom is a very standard small tub/shower combo. The maids came to deliver towels but there was no sheet changing, cleaning or trash service. The toiletries provided were a wall-mount body wash and a wall mount “conditioning shampoo” so not even separate conditioner, and there was one small bar of soap provided for 4 nights. There were no extra things like tissues, cotton balls, etc. Just the bare minimum. No USB outlets. The floors are carpeted and the walls are cinder block. I’ve stayed at MANY hotels and motels and this is basically a Motel 6 or Laquinta with a different name. There was a small fridge and a microwave, though. Now, if you’ve read this and are thinking “well, who cares? We will be at the park all day anyway!” Then that’s PERFECT. You will be fine! That’s basically what I decided after spending one night. I called Disney to see if we could be switched and the only other option was a $1300 up charge so I decided we’d save the money/spend it on park food and fun. But if you are the type who likes the hotel experience just as much as the park experience, then this place is NOT for you. Would I stay here again? No, unless it was the only option within close proximity. I’d exhaust every other option, even if more expensive. I was super excited to stay here and it was just a bit of a letdown. The walk to the parks, though, was A BREEZE. I wish I could list more positives!
