I imagine it was great.... 10 years ago...

The animation crew was great, specially for the children area, also the kitchen service was good and tried their best for a good service. GREAT BEACH! The hotel is not that old, but it seems pretty under maintained, both elevators failed during our stay and the stairs smelled like urine!; also there where low quality drinks at the bar witch you don't expect for the price. I don't see myself getting back to the resort.

Back at the Iberostar

The_Man (Winnipeg, Canada) on Jul 16, 2024

We spent the first week of July at the Iberostar and had a great time. We stayed at the resort not long after it opened and the overall experience was as good as I remembered. The only reason I’m rating it a 4 and not a 5 is because the gym was closed for renovations the entire time we were there. We would not have stayed here if we knew this in advance. To the resort’s credit, they did upgrade us to an oceanfront room at a greatly reduced rate and gave my wife free access to the hydrotherapy at the spa. All the a la cart restaurants were very good. Except for the Japanese restaurant, no reservations are needed. We didn’t eat dinner at the buffet but breakfast and lunch were very nice with a good variety. A stop at the coffee shop was a great way to start the day and the Sunset Bar was a great place to end it. The guests are mostly families with younger children so things were pretty quiet after about 10:00 pm. We preferred the beach to the pool. We even saw dolphins one afternoon. The resort does offer drink service on the beach and the taco stand beside the bar is worth a visit. The service throughout the resort was excellent. The staff were all very helpful and informative when it came to our son’s peanut allergy. Finally, I’d recommend taking the shuttle to Sayulita. It’s definitely worth a visit. It’s too bad that they only give you two hours to visit.

Above & Beyond Customer Service 5 stars!

yolies2022 on Jul 02, 2024

This hotel superseded any high expectations I already had. The food was phenomenal the staff was unbelievably kind friendly accommodating and the Sunset Bar staff were like visiting old friends. Not only did they understand it was a family reunion they became family knowing our names and drinks. Mayra and Carmelo went above and beyond to make us feel at home after long day of hot sun and activities. This hotel is definitely our go to next time we are in PV. My family could not have picked a better hotel! Gracias!

Annual Family Vacation

NikaG_09 (Colorado) on Jul 02, 2024

I stayed at Iberostar Playa Mita the last week of June with a group of 8 other family members. Our family takes vacations to Mexico annually, and has frequented Iberostar properties in Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen. We all agreed that Iberostar Playa Mita climbed the ranks to take a top spot on our short list of favorite resorts. The hotel is about a 45 minute ride from the airport, and we used Vallarta Transportation Service. David did an incredible job and the drive flew by. The resort is lovely- well designed and maintained. Our ocean view room was large and clean, and it was a treat to get to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds and views of the ocean. We mainly lounged on the beach the entire week. The ocean is clear, tolerably wavy, no seaweed, and lovely. It is such a beautiful sight to see mountains lining the beach front. A nice touch is the team who sets out the chaise lounges and umbrellas every day- it prevents the early morning chair reservers that you typically see at other resorts. The beach team is quick and accommodating to groups of all sizes. The food was fantastic- our favorite a la carte restaurants were steak and hibachi. The fish tacos at the bar by the beach were a delicious daily staple. Italian and Mexican nights at the main buffet were absolutely incredible - Chef Luis came to our table both nights and was gracious and welcoming. The alcohol was branded and drinks were well made - Micheladas on the beach, lemon drop martinis at the sunset bar, espresso martinis at the lobby bar- all delicious and well executed. Our favorite lounging and drinking spot was the Wirikuta sunset bar overlooking the ocean. It truly was unlike any bar we’ve experienced at other resorts. The service was attentive and friendly- Karen and Monse and Zury and Valentina were some of the wonderful staff that took care of us and got to know our group during our stay. We saw groups of all sizes and age ranges and the staff works very hard to accommodate everyone sitting together and served quickly. Overall this is a wonderful resort and we had a fantastic vacation. Can’t wait to come back!

Misrepresented online. Couldn't wait to leave. Complete dump!

Puerto Vallarta Airport to the arrival at Iberostar Selection Playa Mita, Mexico (June 2024) was a very long process. We booked with Travel Best Bets, and were told by them, this hotel was nice. Not true! The photos of the hotel online are also misleading, this hotel is a 3-star maximum. The airport is confusing, stressful and the airport staff are deceptive. This was most definitely not welcoming. No assistance, complete ignorance. Shocking. The transportation to the hotel took nearly 2 hours, on unfinished, horrible roads. Arrived at Iberostar Selection Playa Mita. The duration to check in took 40 minutes. It was a long wait, in the heat. It was nice that the hotel provided cool, non-alcohol drinks while waiting. Entrance impression is "wow!" Beautifully decorated. But, this does not apply to the rest of the hotel. Rooms are horrible, disgusting actually. The odour is unpleasant. The beds are worn and uncomfortable. Sheets are clean, but always damp. The balcony is great, if you have an ocean view. Otherwise, enjoy the construction views. Bathrooms are rundown, odour is unbearable. The shower is falling apart, dirty and doesn't drain. Hair and dirt under sink and toilet from previous guests. Bar fridge was daily restocked. Hotel provides, beers, sodas, and sparkling water. Still, filtered water is available on each floor. We left tips of $10 US per day in our room, to ensure our room was made up nicely. The cleaning staff really appreciated this, however, cleaning is not a priority. Pool activities look fun, but after trying a few in extreme heat, we preferred to sun and swim. Music is loudly played, all day. This was too much for us, we decided to stay at the beach, but then hounded there, every 5-15 minutes with aggressive vendors. We were called lazy for not participating in pool activities by employees at the hotel! One employee member said, "you'll probably never do anything here, excuses-excuses and lazy". Won't name anyone, but 2 individuals, in particular were incredibly racist. We overheard them in Spanish, laughing at black people vacationing here. They commented on their clothing and weight and burst into laughter. This was offensive. The pool area has continuous availability to snacks and food. Hamburgers, hot dogs and fresh fruit is available all day at a "help yourself" bar area. There is also a taco stand, at the opposite side of the pool. The best part of the stay at this hotel is the food. The buffets, El Nopal and La Bahia are phenomenal. Line ups are very long and buffets are difficult to navigate through. A convenient coffee shop is located in the lobby, serves all sorts of cafe drinks and snacks. Coffee machine in our room did not work and there was nothing to make coffee with. We left $3-$5 tips, every seating at restaurants and service was good, sometimes fantastic. Ocean is warm, but very violent waves with sharp rocks. Red flag is always up. The Spa is not a 5-star Spa. Services were mediocre. Very pleasant spa staff, training is outdated. Unfortunately, the Spa is not well maintained. It's also air-conditioned and uncomfortably cold. The hotel, as a whole is a dump, and not 5-star. Rooms are no good, mattresses are old (major back ache), sheets are damp, fixtures have visible water damage, bad odour, lamps and lockbox don't work well and ventilation is non-existent. Employees are racist, can't stand whites, make fun of other cultures, attitude and comments brought me to tears one evening. Wanted to leave, even looked for earlier flights, but availability and cost was an issue. Already spent near $6000 to stay for 7 nights. The only thing 5-star about this hotel is the cuisine, and the landscape. NEVER RETURNING TO THIS HOTEL. It seems Mexicans don't like us coming, therefore, we won't come to Mexico again.
