A Nice Resort but overhyped

My comments on Live Aqua are complicated. There were things that really enjoyed and some issues that we didn't expect. Overall, the grounds are very well kept, the beach and pool areas great. Our room w...as nice. When we arrived we were upgraded for free to a swim up. We were not told why, we figured it was because we were staying for 9 nights. The swim up was great, it even has fairly private whirlpool area. We learned our next door neighbors had also been upgraded to a swim up, they were staying for 12 days. After a while we came to realization we were upgraded because there two separate conventions that were in town and they appeared to be separating the convention guests from the regular guest. We appreciated that. The more we stayed the more it felt like a way to make some things up to us. It felt like a lot of staff was diverted to the convention goers and service dipped at the pool and beach when the convention goers had onsite activities. To be fair, the swim up was a fair tradeoff in my opinion but I walked away kind of unimpressed with the overall service because I had read so many rave reviews about the service. There were absolutely some standout members of the team. Joel by the beach and pool was amazing he took great care of us when he was there. Red with the entertainment is great. Confesor by Wonderpool was great. The server and bartenders were consistently great but in the early afternoon it seemed like the pool and beach servers would disappear to service the convention members. That's not the end of the world but it was a little disappointing. The breakfasts buffet was pretty standard for an adults only all inclusive. I did appreciate that they had multiple omelet stations. They have a fairly diverse mix of lunch options. That was also nice. Huzur, above the pool was good. Wonderpool was great for a quick bite and Miraflores had great fish tacos. I did find the ceviches to be pretty mid. Compton Street, the sports bar is good. One thing they really nail foodwise is your American staples. They had by far the best hamburgers and pizzas that we've had at a resort. The nachos and chili cheese fries were solid as well. Our issue was the a la carte restaurants were pretty underwhelming. The good, ATL was the best mexican we've had at a resort and we go to Mexico more often than the DR. The Quesabairria tacos were great. The pastor, and carnitas tacos were also solid. The pozole was also very good. Seishin was good but not to par with the other Asian restaurants we've eaten at at other resorts. Chez Rose and Sospiro weren't bad they were just fine. For us, the a la carte restaurants are a major driver in why we go to resorts, so 3 or 4 being underwhelming was disappointing. The drinks at the bars were all good. The espresso martinis were very good. I was a little disappointed that they did not have Brugal rum options other than a couple of bottle upcharges. The coffee was nice but feels pretty standard for resorts now. The PM entertainment was fine, that is not what we go for and we could really care less. The beach is. The pools are also very nice. Because of the conventions we had no issues finding covered places to sit at both. The towel games does not seem to be a thing here and that's great. If you are looking for smaller resort, with some really nice touches and a la carte restaurants are a big deal for you, this might we a good fit for you, especially if you like to eat American food on vacation. I also think if you go during peak season, when they aren't handling conventions, the service at the beach and pool are probably more consistent. I think our decision as to whether or not to go back will come down to price point. There are a few other resorts that we've been to, at a similar price point, that we had better all around experiences at that I'd choose over Live Aqua.
Perfect!

Stayed 14 nights and had the best holiday. The hotel/resort was very clean and the staff (whatever their job role) were friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and a hello/hola. The beach was be...autiful. Prior to coming here, I’d read about construction on the hotel next door and so I emailed the concierge asking for a room away from this. I was pleased to see that this was honoured. All rooms in even block numbers are away from the construction. There is some noise during the day but nothing to really be a problem. I would say the odd number blocks, those facing the new hotel are just not so nice to look at. We tried all the restaurants and the food was really good. You did not have to make reservations which was perfect and was never crowded. Thank you to Raoul who made our omelettes (husband 3 eggs nothing else!) always with a smile. Shame we didn’t get to say goodbye to you on our last day. We had an issue one night (with noise from a group who stayed just one night) and the following day Angela the concierge called us. She is amazing! She assured us they had left and offered us to move rooms even so. We declined but she compensated us beyond anything we had asked for and this is how you rate a hotel and its staff in how they deal with these situations. Thank you Angela - you are the best! If we ever came back to Dominican Republic on this coastline, without any hesitation we would stay here.
Spectacular!

Everything was amazing! The entertainment was great, the food was great, the service all around was great! Ivan was the best! Angelo was the best! We stayed for 5 nights and already am looking forward to b...ooking another stay in the near future. It was exactly what we needed to unwind and relax.

We just got back from an amazing few days at Live Aqua and had the best time! Our butler Alex made sure everything was taken care of for our room, we met Josue the first day on the beach and thereafter he ...had our favorite spot set up for us every morning. All of the staff are so friendly and the resort itself is beautifully done.
Terrible experience

Our experience was deeply disappointing from start to finish. The first room we were given had a strong mold smell — it was suffocating. We spent hours contacting reception and were only moved to another r...oom after staying up until 2 a.m. They finally upgraded us to a room with a pool, but it still had a musty odor. We had to keep the balcony door open all night just to breathe. To make matters worse, this room was directly facing a construction site. The noise started every morning at 7:30 a.m. and continued nonstop until 8:30 p.m. On our last night, the construction unexpectedly resumed at 11:30 p.m. and went on until 1 a.m. — we were kept awake by loud hammering and drilling in the middle of the night. We called reception multiple times, begging for help, but were told there was nothing they could do. The food was also well below average — definitely not what you would expect from a resort of this level. We came here hoping for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation, but instead, it was stressful, noisy, and exhausting. What should have been a peaceful escape turned into a truly unpleasant experience.
