Great place for family — lots to do and the staff is friendly!!! We stayed during the Hurricane and felt safe and cared for the entire time. The property was back in shape within 3 days! Unbelievable! The food in the buffets is good! There is always hot food, cold salads, fresh fruit - even a separate kids station with things like chicken nuggets and hot dogs! The pool and beach are huge! ….and remember to go claim your pool chairs early — that’s something we read in other reviews and it’s really helpful. Other tips: *Bring bug spray— the mosquitoes are out at night *Make dinner reservations as soon as you check in … they fill up fast! We really liked MareNostrum (the seafood one). *Bring a bunch of smaller denominations in currency and tip your servers! These are good people who are working hard! *Bring at least 2 swimsuits — even if you hang them outside to dry, it wont happen overnight *Ask the bellboys to call you a can. They know who is safe and who isnt. Your cabbies will also know how to get you into cenotes, tours, etc much cheaper! *Don’t believe the bad reviews. Some people can find the bad thing in everything !

We had been to this resort before and was looking forward to a great time. Instead we were treated to a rundown Hotel that was in need of major upgrades. The beach here is dangerous and should be entered only with great caution. The food is cafeteria grade at best, only the specialty restaurants were worth the time. Greatly disappointed and would not return, the hotel needs a major upgrade and renovation, it is not worth the money they are charging .

This resort is AMAZING! I can't believe how the staff can remember us year after year. We are treated AMAZINGLY and will continue to visit as often as we can. Our first trip to the Barcelo was about 19 years ago when there was only one resort. It has grown so much and we love it!!!

Service from staff was generally terrible and they never smiled. They always served us as if forced and annoyed. This is especially true to all pool bars and bars. Even tipping made zero difference in their attitude. Drinks tasted like medicine and the alcohol was non existent in all drinks. The alcohol bottles are extremely diluted or filled with chemicals that make you think your drinking rum or gin or whatever. Just plain disgusting. Rooms are clean n but walls are paper thin and can hear everything from other guests. Guests are loud and scream I the halls at all hours of the night and have complete disrespect of other guests trying to sleep.

I would not go back if they offered the same food in the buffet everyday. The juices needs to be improve, decease the water and sugar that they put in it. They also need to refill the fridge at the room everyday.
