Family Fun at the Royalton Splash!

Our group of well traveled 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 12, 14, and 16) traveled to the Royalton Splash Riveria Cancun March 21-28, 2025. Overall we had an amazing week. A few tears were shed as they cut our ...bracelets off on the last day. Any inconveniences were minor and did not come close to ruining our vacation. We would absolutely come back. Here is my review: Check in: We had a prebooked, private Amstar shuttle. After a short wait at the airport we were at the resort in a short fifteen minutes. We were Diamond Club and check in was smooth. From the moment we stepped in, to when we were in our room was maybe an hour. We got some food and a drink and took in the beautiful view from the DC Lounge while we waited. Then the fun began! Room: We were in room 19806, which we had paid to preselect. The room was clean and well appointed, We had two queen beds and a pullout. Yes, the pullout appears small, but once they made it up my son said it was quite comfortable and he slept on it all week. Our butlers were Dario and Carolina. Did we win the lottery with them! Top tier service from beginning to end of our stay. Pleasant and communicative. I cannot say enough about the two of them- if you're able to request their services, you will not be disappointed. Genuine, amazing people. Our room was cleaned every day. We did have some trouble the first day with the water being off in our building- we could not flush toilets or take showers. It lasted from wake up until about 2:00 pm. Was it inconvenient? Sure, but we were at the pool most of that time anyways, so the impact was minimal. We did have trouble getting our mini-bar restocked. We tipped well the first day when we met the attendant, and had tips set out the next day with a list of what we wanted restocked. No one came. The next day- no one came either, and at this point we were out of water. We contacted guest services and they were apologetic. We got what we requested. The next day- no restock. Contacted guest services and someone came, but did not have everything we requested. Not having water was an issue a few days, so we learned to request bottles from the pool bar before we headed up to the room for the day. I had brought snacks and there's plenty of food everywhere so not having snacks in the room wasn't awful- but, I do feel like this is an area for improvement. Activities: SO MUCH fun to be had. Alejandro on the vibe team was the best. He made sure everyone at the DC pool knew what was going on and included them. Our group played pool volleyball twice a day, everyday. One day a girl with down syndrome played and Alejandro was so kind and patient with her. He made sure the game was always safe for everyone and that no one got too competitive. He played in the pool and was just so fun. We loved the violinist that played at the DC pool- wish she would have played more than one day! The foam party- always a blast. The kids loved the waterslides and no one got hurt. The lazy river was amazing. Never ever have I been in a lazy river that goes INSIDE the hotel. The wait for tubes could be long, and sometimes they made you get out after one trip around if people were waiting for tubes. We brought our own, so a non-issue for us. The beach is fine. Yes, there was seaweed. We did not swim in the ocean because of this, but we knew this going into it. The sand is still white and pretty and the water aqua blue- gorgeous to look at. At night, the white party and silent disco are not to be missed- so much fun! The walking light up robots were cool and the dancers kept the energy going. We went one night to the Cave for the DJ and that was good too. Our kids did bowling once and enjoyed it. Gym/Spa: The gym is the most clean, modern, and overall nice gym I have ever seen at a resort or hotel. I really enjoyed the yoga classes and went three times. All instructors were very good, gave great cues, and made all levels of participants feel welcome. If you get lucky enough to take the class where the massage therapists from the spa come over to give mini massages at the end...well, hope it was as great for you- one of my favorite moments of vacation! It was a bit disappointing that they are VERY strict about no one under the age of 16 in the gym. While I understand if you do it for one, you have to do it for all- my 12 and 14 year old regularly work out for their sports and physical therapy. My husband tried taking them and was turned away- and they purposely went at 5pm when there was no one else in the gym. I wish there would be leeway for adult supervision, but again, understand the risk. We did the complimentary hydrotherapy session for being DC and really enjoyed it. For some reason we did not take advantage of this when we stayed in Punta Cana and that was a big mistake! The spa is lovely, but we did not book any other services. Food and Drink: We don't come to an all-inclusive for Michelin food, so our expectations are for it to be average or slightly above. Our expectations were met. Rio, Zen, and Hunters- everyone loved their meal. We went back to Rio a second night. At Grazie some really enjoyed their dish while others said it was just okay. Smoke was our least favorite. During the day we really enjoyed having Nibbles as an option- though it's too bad they run out of chips so quickly. At a Mexican resort I would expect chips to be on the ready at all times. My son enjoyed the burger truck- we were there during spring break so lines were really long, but we never waited more than 30 minutes. Grazie to go is nice, but far from the DC pool, so not always convenient. DC lounge snacks were good, but often needed to be restocked. If I asked, someone was quick to do it. We did most breakfast at Grazie or DC lounge. We went one morning to Rio for the DC buffet and it was very picked over. After waiting awhile for things to be refilled we ended up going to the regular buffet where options were much more plentiful and fully stocked. For drinks, did we ever get lucky by enjoying service by some of the best bartenders ever. Mariano at Scores and the DC pool, Raul at the DC Beach Bar, and Luis in the DC Lounge were EXCEPTIONAL bar tenders. Hardworking, conversational, fun, eager to serve....we sought them out and they all truly made our trip special. Always happy to make our kids the annoying frozen, virgin drinks- they also gave suggestions for new things to try, while always remember our regular orders. These three employees are treasures and I hope Royalton knows that about them! Outside of those spots, we did try the mixology bar- drinks were unique, but took a long time- fun for a stop but not something I would want to do every night. The liquor selection at bars was kind of random and varied throughout the trip, but that didn't bother us. There was always something wet, cold and delicious. We definitely could tell a difference in strength of drinks from DC to non-DC bars, but generally, found them to be "just right" for a long day of consumption. A few areas for improvement: The mini-bar restock seems to be hit or miss. They could use one more burger truck- they do have a taco truck, but the menu was a little eccentric for my kids and that line got long too. They have to figure out the chair issue. We got lucky in that our butler would reserve chairs for us. But we still had to be up at 8 for that or they would give them away. Someone in our group still opted to get up at 5:30 to reserve the bed loungers in the DC area. Being there during peak spring break did not help. We were also picky about where we wanted our chairs. There were always chairs available on the beach or in the waterpark by the slides. So yes, you can find a chair at any time, it may not be in your preferred location though. I think having some hand sanitizer throughout the resort would be a good idea- there are lots of common touchpoints. No one got sick, but the risk is there for a virus to spread quickly. The sports court area needs maintenance. My son was disappointed with the basketball court and only played one time. The turf is in rough shape and there is only one net. Our favorite things: The service here was top notch. In Punta Cana, no one stood out in particular. Here Dario, Carolina, Mariano (Scores), Raul (DC Beach bar), Luis (DC Lounge), and Alejandro all left an impression. The resort is VERY clean. The pools were large and never felt crowded, even during peak Spring Break. We found the temperature to be perfect. The activities were so fun and never once did I hear "mom, I'm bored" from our kids. The food was better than expected. Liquor selection was better than expected- lots of brands we recognized from the States along with some local flavors. We never had an issue with smell in the room and the view from our balcony was amazing. Love all the waterpark/lazy river/pool options for the kids. In Summary: We chose this resort after staying at the Royalton Bavarro in Punta Cana and having a great experience there. This resort was overall more modern, had better service, and more to do. While the beach in Punta Cana was nicer and my son missed the mini-golf, overall we enjoyed the RSRC even more than RBPC! We found the guests generally respectful and fun. If you don't sweat the small stuff and travel with an open mind you will have a wonderful time! I would book again without hesitation.
