Wonderful Second Trip

Our second trip to VIM was just as wonderful as the first. This time my husband and I brought along my mother and his parents, who had just as wonderful of a time as we did. The grounds are still stunning,... the food is amazing, and the service from the staff is still phenomenal. In particular, Diego at the swim up bar, Cindy at Taman Sari, Yonathan at La Hacienda, and Jorge at Ginger all stood out with their attentive, friendly service. The Go Team was just as fun and welcoming as we remember from last time with Pedro, Israel, Daniel, and Jessica all being so much fun. Lorenzo in particular was so wonderful, remembered my husband and I from our last visit, and made our parents feel so welcome. The staff also did an excellent job with my father-in-laws tomato allergy and my mother's aversion to spicy foods. They even made my father-in-law a special hot sauce (habanero with salt and lime) for breakfast at Mar Y Tierra and my mom a special shrimp dish for dinner at La Hacienda. We were also celebrating my 30th birthday on this trip and everyone at VIM made me feel so special. Diego made my husband and I a special birthday shot at the swim up bar that day and made sure to ask the following day that I had a good birthday. The waitstaff at La Alsace brought me out a special birthday cake at dinner and sang me Happy Birthday. And our house cleaning staff left me an individual birthday cake in our room with the nightly turn-down. Overall it was an amazing time relaxing in paradise and we cannot wait until we can return again.
Good food, lovely property but think ahead to stay cool

Trip Review! We just returned from our 1st trip to Valentin and it was great! We were a party of 4 couples celebrating several 40th birthdays, we all opted for Prive. One of us was vegetarian and he was we...ll accommodated, I was pumping breastmilk and the staff was very helpful in freezing/storing what I pumped. I’ll expand on that later down. My husband and I have previously been to Unico, El Dorado, and Planet Hollywood. We agreed Valentin was our favorite! Food: We thought the food here was best - everyone loved Tamansari! The coffee shop was delicious and great for a quick sandwich or sweet. Plenty of alternative milk options. The buffet was really good, though we only did breakfast and one lunch there. Food truck around the pool was ok, but did the trick - took a while & small portions, so order more than you think. My vegetarian husband wanted me to mention they can do off the menu dishes most places- so more options than noted on the menu, just ask! Drinks: Service was wonderful- always someone around to get you a drink, very friendly. 2 swim up bars in the main pool + servers walking around and a regular service near golden pool. Don Miguel’s was excellent, lots of fun options. We didn’t hang out at the Sports Bar much but menu looked good. That was the only place we couldn’t finds seats together. Prive: We did it because we wanted to make sure our group of 8 could be easily seated together and have dinner reservations and it worked perfectly. Otherwise, I don’t think you need I it if you’re just 2 or don’t mind waiting or splitting up. We did enjoy the express Prive check-in and lounge, our party ended up hanging out in the lounge quite a bit as it was air conditioned and nobody else was ever there, so plenty of space to hang out and play games! They also have some premium liquor there not available elsewhere. We also each got 4 bottles of liquor in our rooms but it really isn’t necessary as drink service is so easy literally everywhere. Even though it is listed as a perk, we were not granted early check in (arrived at 10am, room ready at 2:30pm) and I know a couple in our party was told too of a late check-out would be a fee (they were leaving at 3pm, though allowed to still be at the resort - just not their room.) we did appreciate having Bali beds around the pool, had a little alcove of 4 beds together. But there were plenty of chairs available still at 10am usually, so again - enjoyed this perk but not necessary to enjoy yourself. The beach: We didn’t spend a lot of time there but it was as nice as possible, they worked hard fighting the sargassum. Definitely people in the water, sand volleyball, drink service, plenty of chairs and a nice view! The beach restaurant Mar y Tierre was good and relatively cool. Weather: It was HOT! We came in early June and are from Texas so heat is normal for us but the humidity damn near took me out! Be prepared! Lots of areas not air conditioned, one of the restaurants was sooo hot but most ok. Can sit inside (with AC) or outside at buffet, so your choice. Don Miguel’s and Prive Lounge had AC but closed at 11pm so I found it difficult to hang out late-night and enjoy the band or DJ in the courtyard. Shows even in the theater had no AC, I know I’m sounding very picky/American but I am just trying to warn you - wear linen, light clothing and perhaps being a personal fan if you are sensitive to the heat. Even at night, it was sweltering. I don’t remember being this hot at El Dorado, which went to about the same time of year. The pools were warm, like bath water - which I was ok with. In the water under a little shade was comfortable. The forecast said storms for 2 of our days but it turned out to be just a some rain one morning - so don’t stress if your forecast doesn’t look great. Rooms: We just did a Jr Deluxe in building 5 and it was all we needed. Spacious, private balcony (just jungle view,) and one sink in bathroom - but bathroom was large with jetted tub and separate shower. Bed was comfortable. You can connect your phone audio to Bluetooth in the room, loved that for playing music. We had a little fridge that was stocked with soda, beer, juice, water. It was not very cold but ok. Small elevator (we were on 3rd floor) and easy access to everything! Steps from main pool and golden pool just across street…beach and Mar y Tierre very close. The main buildings/dining were about a 5-7 minute walk but most times a golf cart took us (we called from our room and they came quickly.) One couple we were with had a swim up, note they are not traditional “swim ups” so not really for personal or late-night use, no steps or ladder in front of their room but rather just a 1st floor room with close proximity to water. Pumping/Storage: In case this is helpful for any other breast feeding moms, I pumped frequently and I hate to dump!!! 80% of mine didn’t have alcohol so I really tried to keep it chilled. I washed my parts with dish soap I brought from home just in my bathroom sink with faucet water and I put towels down in the tub to be my drying rack. I when I pumped in my room, I kept bags in our little fridge and then would take them each evening or morning to the Prive lounge to be added to a cooler I stored with them in the freezer. I’m sure regular check in would do this as well. One time, I asked the pool server to store a bag (before we had our room) and we picked it up next day. When I checked out, everything was indeed frozen and I am praying it makes it home that way!! Being extra ice packs!!!! I only had 2 but they gave me a big bag of ice at checkout to help. No issues at airport security. We all agreed we’d go back! Hope this is helpful!
