Overall quality resort but issues with accessibility for anyone who is not able to climb stairs

What a lovely resort! Upon arriving one is struck by the quality goal of this resort. The feel was zen carribean resort. Many pros to highlight. Beach was exceptional, pool grounds was great too althoug...h we did not spend any time there. Restaurants were good. Our favourite was the Cuban cuisine restaurant ‘Caribe’. Avoid the Italian restaurant. Food ,vibe ….far from Italian. Buffet restaurant was equally good. Usual offerings but not more than that. Much to our delight ,we were assigned Butlers (Elaine and Ailyn) who did a great job looking after our needs and questions. Super helpful and responsive. The butler service made this experience stand out above other resort experiences for us. The ground were very well kept. Two cons to highlight and one is exceptionally important. The room, although cleaned well daily, needs some refurbishment. Everything looked old and tired. Even the pillow cases with small tears in them. They could do a better job of making the rooms come alive to the quality standard on the outside. Didn’t ruin our vacation but worth noting. The other issue is one of accessibility. The main buffet and some of the restaurants, the jazz bar are on the second floor and their one elevator was out of service. We were travelling with my 88 yr old dad and taking the rather long (15+steps )stairs was the only way he could go to those places to eat. Not ideal. Certainly not functional with anyone who has more significant mobility issues and requirements (i.e. wheelchair accessibility). The butlers did offer for us to access the one restaurant on the main floor for breakfast and lunch during our stay. This restaurant is typically offered only to those who buy the diamond club package which we did not. We appreciated that but that would have prevented us from experiencing the food offerings on the second floor. In typical Cuban fashion, the people work very hard to make our experience enjoyable. Overall a very good quality resort. But a word of caution on the accessibility issue.

Everything was wonderful. Very friendly staff all around the resort. Hosts ( Elaine and Aylin) week just exceptionally helpful. They were so good that there words to thank them. They were proactively helpi...ng us the whole time, even when we did not ask for help. We highly appreciate the help that they provided. A big thank you to both of them.
