It was a wonderful experience at Royalton and even though there was hurricane when we were there, the resort managed everything really well Special shoutout to our Butler - Bryan. There were variety of food options and 24x7 snack bar was really good.
Royal treatment at the Royalton

I can’t recommend this hotel enough. We stayed at the Royalton a few days after the blackout and there were no issues. The resort had power the entire time, AC in the rooms and plenty of bottled water. Check-in was a breeze. We arrived at 11pm and were in our rooms within 30 minutes. The staff are friendly and helpful. Hermes and Tania in the buffet are amazing, Yoel at the grill was always a friendly face. The cleaning staff were friendly and gracious, reception was helpful with any and all requests. The gardeners were always quick with a kind word or a coconut. The butlers made themselves available to us. We were celebrating a birthday while we were there and the butlers decorated our room and provided us with a reservation for dinner at one of the restaurants for that evening. The food is a cut above your standard Cuba resort fare. The meat is mostly pork, there’s a lot of rice and beans, but there’s also pizza and cold cuts as well as fish. The soup was good, too. One of the best parts about the food were the pastries, they had very good croissants. The bars were well-stocked: mojitos, margaritas, daiquiris as well as tequila and vodka. By far the beach grill had the best breakfast. The Caribbean Restaurant was the best one at the resort (try the grilled lobster and chicken), while the Pearl international restaurant had a good steak. The lasagna at the Italian restaurant was really good, too. All the restaurants open at 6:30 and I’d recommend getting there early as a line forms quickly. The rooms were clean and had no issues. The pool was alright, but the beach is the true gem of the place. Clean, enough chaises longues for all, and extra umbrellas. There were a few vendors, especially on the weekend: bring 5$ cash if you want a piña colada and pineapple. The beach was very safe, there were lifeguards walking along the shore and police were also patrolling the beach from time to time. We brought bug spray thinking we’d be swarmed by mosquitos but they were really only an issue by the lobby in the evening. One thing I’d recommend is bring US dollar bills, Canadian coins are mostly useless: more than once staff approached us to exchange loonies for bills. Gifts are also appreciated. I would definitely return here.
