Great Location BUT…

Kristina C on May 23, 2025

This hotel is centrally located across from Waikiki beach with abundant food options and shopping in walking distance. HOWEVER, it is extremely old and outdated, and there is only one teeny, tiny pool for ...hundreds of guests staying in two towers. You cannot enjoy the pool because kids are doing cannonballs and splashing everywhere. The pool deck is extremely small to match the kiddy pool. Definitely not the typical Hyatt Regency you are used to. Will opt for a different hotel next visit.

If you know a Globalist, get GOH status.

JaDeGirL01 (Orange County, California) on May 23, 2025

When I found out that my brother and his fiancée (now wife) were getting married in Oahu, I asked them repeatedly if they were blocking off a set of rooms at a hotel. They mentioned having everyone stay in... Waikiki but no hotel names were mentioned. When I did not get a satisfactory answer, I went ahead and booked the Hyatt in Waikiki on points. Actually, I booked the Hyatt Centric because I do not have Globalist status. BUT, my boss who is Globalist, generously gifted me a Guest of Honor certificate, so I canceled my previous booking and booked at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki in order to fully maximize GOH. Let's just say, I was really excited to stay at a Hyatt with GOH after experiencing Club access at the Hyatt Regency in Tokyo Bay and the Dreams Puerto Vallarta. Our booking was for a standard King with Waikiki view. We took a Lyft from Aulani and arrived early at the Hyatt. I was not expecting that our room would be ready but it would not hurt to check-in and leave our bags. They have a flavored water dispenser near the front desk to refill your bottles or quench your thirst. Our room was indeed ready early and it turns out we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite in the Diamond Head Tower with an ocean front view on the 25th floor! I asked about late check-out as that is a perk offered to GOH but the front desk person told me to check back the day before check-out to confirm availability. The hotel is dated as most properties along this strip of beach may be and yes the elevators are SLOW. You need your room key to get up to the higher floors. However, our room had been renovated with new furnishings. The bathroom had a new vanity with lighted mirror and a Toto bidet! Fancy! It's obvious that they cater to a lot of Japanese clientele from the availability of free slippers to a bidet with all the bells and whistles. The flatscreen TV swiveled between the bedroom area and the sitting area where there was a pull out couch, plush rug, table, and chair. The balcony has two chairs with a metal railing. I'm not sure how sturdy the railing was but it was fine to lean against for short periods of time. The view was breathtaking though. I could stare out at that ocean all day and feel the warm breeze on my skin. We had a Nespresso machine in the room but did not use it as GOH gave us access to the Regency Club on the 3rd floor. We had access to the free breakfast spread in the Club which had hot and cold items: eggs, bacon, French toast, pastries, bread, bagels, lox, oatmeal, miso soup, coffee machine, juice, flavored water dispenser, etc. After breakfast, there were granola bars, access to the various juices, coffee, and drinks. In the evening, there were hors d'oeuvre offered but we were out and about during those times, so we did not partake. The alcohol was not complimentary at this Regency Club as it is normally at other Hyatt Clubs, which was a little disappointing to be honest. I took advantage of the gym in the mornings. The fitness center was also on the 3rd floor on the way to the pool. I liked getting a work out in to offset my vacation eating habits. The gym was clean and had a ton of bikes, treadmills, weights, a water dispenser, towels, etc. While we visited the pool to see where it was, we did not use it. It did have a nice rooftop atmosphere but my husband was more interested in the beach just steps away so we borrowed some beach towels from the machine with our room keys and went to the beach. They have a calm cove blocked off just like they did at Aulani but the sand under the water was very rocky and not as pleasant to walk on. Water shoes would have saved my soles on this vacation. On the day before check-out I went back to ask about 4 pm late check-out as our flight out of Honolulu was not until the late evening. The front desk was not able to accommodate me as our room was one of the nicer suites, which they wanted readied for incoming guests. I was offered a regular room on a different floor if I wanted the late check-out. I let her know that I'd discuss it with my husband but she offered me 11:30 am which was only half an hour after the regular check-out time anyway. My husband did not want to lose out on our awesome suite so we kept the room and agreed to the 11:30 am check-out. Despite all that, the next morning our keys stopped working at 11:00 am and I wasn't able to get back into the Club to grab another coffee. We checked out at 11:30 at the front desk and were not charged any resort fees as we booked the room on points. We took our bags down to the bell desk for them to hold for the day. We set out to meet my family for lunch and went about our day until it was time to return to retrieve the bags to head for the airport. It was a lovely stay and we'd probably come back.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki has the friendliest and best staff!

Ken K on May 22, 2025

The staff at the Hyatt Regency are truly the best in the business. Starting with the reservation team with Kelly M, front desk team with Grace and Trisha, and Elise and team in the Regency Club. There ar...e no worries when staying at this hotel. It is strategically located right near the beach and has such a great Aloha feel to it. Hands down one of the best on Oahu.

Great location & staff

habs1609 (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) on May 20, 2025

Great location across the street from the beach. Also walking distance to mutilpe restaurants. We stayed here for 6 nights. Our room was comfortable with great beds . Our room was done by housekeeping da...ily between 10:00am & 1:00pm. As part of our package, we got breakfast included. Great deal as it was the buffet that opened at 6AM. Great selection of food, including an omelet station. We also had lunch 2 days at the pool bar/ restaurant . Good food ,nothing fancy. All the staff we encountered were friendly. There are few oddities about the hotel that keep the review at a 4 not a 5. The lobby is on the 2nd floor . So if you don't use bell services, you need to take your bags up to the lobby on the escalator or walk to the elevator. It is in the shopping area on the ground floor between the hotel's 2 towers. Also the laundry room & lobby facilities should be bigger for this size of a hotel. As should the pool deck. If coming back to Honolulu we would definitely consider staying here again

Visit to Hawaii

Grnmtnshop (Falmouth, Massachusetts) on May 20, 2025

Nice view, comfortable bed. Good coffee shop in the lobby. Swim Restaurant was perfect for happy hour. Great waitstaff. Couldn’t use balcony due to smoking smell from below. Hotel needs update, worn rugs, ...broken lobby floors, etc. convenient to Waikiki Beach and shopping.
