Rough week

Worst place on the strip. Bad service and rooms that are not maintained. A/C problems no working ice machine for over a week. Hallways with torn wallpaper showers with mildew cracked ceilings. This place has gone down hill. ONE restaurant open past midnight. No laundry service. No refrig or coffeemaker in room.

I took part in the Holiday Dance Festival at the Luxor last week. The hotel was fine but the prices at the various shops, e.g.convenience stores, Starbucks, etc. are very, very expensive. I also paid a $20 fee for early check-in; my checking was fine but my friend, whose stay I paid for, had to wait a couple of hours to get her room. I just realized that I never checked up on a refund of my $20.

Average stay

I would rate this hotel as average. It’s south of the strip, so although it is still within walking distance it will still take about 30 minutes to walk to The Bellagio for example. The room we had was on the 30th floor (the very top) over looking the Excalibur and MGM. I can’t imagine you get any decent views on the lower down floors so we were grateful for that. The rooms are basic, they could do with a re-vamp. Some tea/coffee making facilities would be a great addition. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, can’t complain about that. The room as well was very big and spacious. They are fine to have as a base. If you wanted something a bit more luxury then I’d recommend staying elsewhere. We had room service one day from the Pyramid Cafe and the food was good and it came really quickly. Check in and out was very simple as I had downloaded the MGM Awards app, so I did it all on that. I’d STRONGLY recommend doing this as the queues for check in/out were crazy. Only other thing to note is the air con/heating system is noisy and makes a hissing noise throughout the night. I wouldn’t not stay here or recommend it but if I was going to Vegas again I would stay somewhere more central on the strip like Planet Hollywood/Bellagio/Caesar’s Palace.
An average casino and basic amenities at the south-end of the Strip.

I knew what to expect from staying at the Luxor, so I wasn't disappointed. The place is dated, but clean and laid back. I can only speak for the rooms in the Tower. The Titanic exhibit has better accommodations. The bed was fine and so were the pillows. The room reminded me a bit of a Club Med room: Stark, minimum comfort, but efficient in the basics. Just get up and get out! The restaurants were pretty good, and so was the Backstage Deli. Great coffee (Lavazza!), and the sandwiches were generous. The Buffet was also very good. The exhibits are educational and interesting, especially the Titanic, which I highly recommend. In my opinion, the Luxor is not a casino where you would want to hang out for too long.
