Wonderful Grounds, lackluster room

266jennm on Dec 03, 2024

I am very torn on how to rate this hotel. I enjoyed everything except the room but the problem is that's where one usually spends their time. We booked the pool view room in the retreat area. Apparently that section has connectivity issues so our phone did not work. We were supposed to have been given a number for texting but we were not. We didn't discover this until we'd been there a couple of days. Our friends in the unit next door did have a working phone but their TV worked only randomly. (We didn't try ours.) The HVAC was very annoying. They've supposedly installed high efficiency programming. You cannot get the fan to work on high. Low only. I sleep with a fan every night so this was annoying. Worse was you had to massively crank it to get the heat to even kick on. Say, set it for 5-6 degrees higher than normal. Then it would get too hot in the middle of the night so you'd have to get up and lower it back down. It was constantly too hot or too cold. Absurd for this level of hotel and the price point. There was also no overhead lighting so it felt dark. While there was a large window in the front it faced the footpath so you typically had the shade pulled. There is a window at the door in the back but it's shifted to one side so the daylight from that window doesn't do much. Overall it just felt like a dark & dingy room. Much of the furniture was worn. At no point did we want to spend time in the room. At the start of our stay we'd planned on adding an extra night but after 4 days we were very ready to leave as were our friends. The retreat section at the back is landscaped with desert landscaping but it lacked any sitting areas of the rest of the hotel. Which was disappointing. There was however a reason to stay and that is the everything outside of the room. The grounds are lovely. There are hammocks below the trees, chairs for lounging and fire pits. There are 3 pools so even on the busiest days you could find a quiet place. Or- head to the main pool for more fun. We'd expected to not have kids in the retreat section but that wasn't the case. The spa pool is adults only so you can get away from screaming kids if need be. I wasn't a huge fan of the spa facilities but that was likely a personal preference. I found the steam shower and hot tub to be overpowering but honestly it might work for some. I did not get a treatment. Staff was very attentive to any needs. I very much enjoyed lounging and relaxing in the peace and quiet of this hotel. I took a stroll with coffee in hand every morning and loved it. While others in our entourage really enjoyed the pool, pool bar and service. It's a great place to stay- if only the room was better.

Great stay

Cal2pa (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) on Nov 30, 2024

This was an absolute blast. Went for the second time to celebrate a special occasion and the staff made it even better. Could not be happier with the quality of the stay, the attentiveness of the staff, the food at the restaurant and the overall zen environment. Will be back again !

Beautiful Grounds, underwhelming rooms.

Chief H on Nov 24, 2024

I expected far more from this hotel and conference. The grounds are beautiful and staff very helpful, but it is VERY expensive with the rooms not meeting the standards I encounter in other hotels. I was at the hotel for a business meeting. The rooms are not equipped with desks, so when trying to do work before and after meetings, it is very uncomfortable being forced to sit on the bed or in the single guest chair and side table provided. Also, the shower is huge and designed for two people. However, the shower head is VERY small and flows little water. Due to the size of the actual shower, you become cold with the little water flowing. It looks great, but if you were at this hotel for a romantic getaway, you would definitely be disappointed with the water flow in the shower. The shower needs a rainfall head and maybe additional regular shower heads installed. The food is quality, but unusually expensive. I did appreciate the numerous outside gathering areas with the gas fireplaces. That was very nice.

Relaxing resort surrounded by dessert beauty! A must stay!

jshook2 (Lakewood Ranch, Florida) on Nov 18, 2024

Beautiful resort, quite and lots of activities and areas to explore. Everyone was very helpful and the food was amazing. Will defiantly keep this one as a must revisit next time I'm back in Scottsdale ! You will not be disappointed. The rooms were amazing, just a little harder bed than I typically like. The pools and green areas were inviting and loved all the fire pits, very inviting to just disconnect and relax!

Deadly Scorpion in Room Stay elsewhere

Everdayisanadventure (North Scituate, Rhode Island) on Nov 18, 2024

Disappointed is an understatement. When we checked in there were moths in the room and the carpet had crumbs on it. They never cleaned the shower the entire 3-day stay. The comforter had stains on it. The last night my husband almost stepped on a scorpion on the carpet. Room phone did not work, so had to call the front desk from my cell phone. My husband had trapped it under a glass by the time the 20 year old kid came to "pickup a bug" where his exact words. No sincere acknowledgement of any kind and not even an apology. Never reached out again after the incident; not even an offer to move our room. No sleep that night, and we left first thing the next morning. Could not wait to leave! Still didnt acknowledge the live scorpion at check-out. No service anywhere anymore, not event at a 5 star resort.
