Celebrated our 12th Wedding Anniversay During our 12th Visit
kevin B (Cornwall, Canada) on Nov 16, 2024
We are just back from a two week stay at the resort, which was our 12th visit there. We arrived Oct. 29th and left Nov. 12th. We were last there in March 2024. A few changes in the staff since then, and some minor changes at the resort, but overall the changes are very positive. October and November are slower months at the resort, and it was not near full capacity, but when we left near mid-November, the number of guests arriving was increasing. Why do we keep coming back? - the resort and rooms are very clean, the food is great, the location in the Playa Dorado complex is very safe and convenient, and the beach is very nice. There are a number of resorts that meet those standards, but in my opinion none have staff that are as friendly and accommodating as those at the Viva Heavens always are. It is the staff that keeps us coming back to this resort. In the past we have travelled to a number of other resorts in Cuba and the DR, and prefer a smaller resort, like this one, where it is easier to get to know the staff and interact with them. When we arrived at the resort, check in was quick and easy and we were welcomed with a cold beverage. Manager Miguel, along with Marie, Belgica, Sophia and Ariana, are all very pleasant to deal with, and will take care of any issues or problems that you have during your stay. Thanks to the staff at the front desk for going out of their way in making the celebration of our 12th wedding anniversary at the resort very special. The coffee bar, Cafe Heavens, which opened in 2023, on the corner near the Blend restaurant is open 9 am - 5 pm. It has a great selection of specialty coffees, including iced coffee, delicious pastries and doughnuts, and starting around noon, a selection of wraps and sandwiches. Café Heavens is usually staffed by Sara Ines, who is always smiling, and a pleasure to deal with. You use the Viva app to book your a la carte restaurants which worked very well, particularly if you wanted to eat a little later - you knew your time was reserved and you would get seated. Check the app each morning and book your a la carte meals a couple of days in advance. You cannot book your a la carte reservations until you are booked into the resort and have a room number. During some of the days of our stay there were so few guests at the resort that you could walk into any of the a la carte restaurants without a reservation. We never had a problem. I am hesitant to name employees at a risk of forgetting someone, but here goes. For those who have been there before, I am sure that you will recognize many of the names. We were very happy to see that Food and Beverage Managers, Marino and Cruz, are still at the resort. Two very hard working guys and they barely stop, walking from one end of the resort to the other, and constantly checking to ensure that there are no issues with guests or staff. On a number of occasions, they went out of their way to ensure that our needs and wishes were taken care of - much appreciated. The resort has a new General Manager, Jennifer, who was very visible out on the grounds of the resort, and spoke to us a number of times ensuring that there was no issues. Manager Oliver was also around day and night and was very pleasant and easy to speak to. The animation team, and is very dedicated and engaged. While most of the animation team is new in the past year, they worked very hard to engage with guests and put on some great shows. We met most of the team and also connected with Aladdin, Matilde, and Aqua. The daytime/nighttime bartenders at the pool are great - Omar is a great bartender and has been at the resort since we first went there in 2018. Maryjenny always ensured that we had our coffee at the pool every morning and was great to deal with. Alexander, who was new to the resort our last visit, was much more confident, and very attentive, usually on the move around the pool. We were well served by Wideson and Zoraidy at the pool bar as well. During the evenings at the pool bar, we were very well taken care of by Aurelio, Orelvis, Yanet, and Augustin. Eduardo was new to the pool bar and “learning the ropes”, we wish him well. I heard nothing but positive comments in regards to the service received by all guests at the pool bar. Some of the staff work at different a la carte restaurants each night, depending on which ones are open any particular evening. I will note my favorite meals at each of the a la carte restaurants, bearing in mind that all the food is good, and I often have something different, and neither my wife, nor I, are seafood eaters. The Blend - Manager Nelson is very professional, and a real gentleman. Hostess Massiel provided excellent service, as did Jose Thomas and Carlos. Excellent food - my picks are the salad, pork tenderloin, and the cheesecake. Puebla 222 (Mexican) – Dawin, who also manages the Rosmarino, Italian restaurant on the beach, also managed the Mexican restaurant. We were served by Nathaly, Domingo, Tony, and Robinson, all of whom were always pleasant to deal with, and ensured that our needs were met. My picks here would be the tortilla soup, chicken fajitas, and the three milk cake. Rosmarino (Italian) - Great atmosphere, overlooking the beach with the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. Manager Dawin will go out of his way to take care of your needs. The other staff Bonifacio, Gloria, and Yosonia, were all great to deal with and went above and beyond what was expected to create an incredible dining experience. The mushroom risotto is delicious, as is the lasagna and the tiramisu. Sofrito (Dominican) – The Sofrito restaurant was open a limited number of evenings during our stay and we did not eat there. In the past, my picks have been the stuffed banana rolls, the steak, and the Dominican cocoa cake. We ate several meals at the main buffet and they were very good. Great service from Marilenis, and the rest of the staff there. Always a diverse selection of food, and never a problem finding lots to eat. While we like to have wraps and sandwiches from Cafe Heavens for lunch, we also like eating at the beach buffet, which is open from 11 am until 5 pm. A selection of burgers, hot dogs, fries, chili, and delicious stone fired pizza, and a variety of other items. We were very happy with the quality and choices at both buffet restaurants. At the Beach Bar we were well served by Alexis, Daisy, and Lorenzo. Some have mentioned the walk from the pool to the beach. It is a pleasant walk alongside a stream/brook inhabited by a variety of fish, turtles, and birds. I timed the walk one day at a leisurely pace - less than 5 minutes. There is a weekly foam party, and it appears that they now bring in an outside company with a foam machine. The foam is higher, thicker, and goes on for much longer than it did in the past and it was a lot of fun. The other thing we really enjoy at this resort is meeting the other guests, from all over the world. It is a small resort, so you see the same people several times a day, and we usually get to know some very well, keep in touch, and we have arranged to travel back to the Viva Heavens to have overlapping visits. This has become our second home, and the staff our second family, we are already booked to go back for four weeks early next year.

The food was good. The staff was excellent. The bar was able to mix drinks that was not the case in other resorts. The walk to the beach is about 5 minutes but very enjoyable because you felt passing by a jungle with not only wonderful vegetation but some animals like turtles, birds ,fish. The beach was not as clean as other beaches but the reason could be the storms in the Caribbean because after some days they were cleaner. Special thanks to Eusa, Ariana, Marie, Sophia, Lorenzo. Could be more animation.
