Excellent week at JOIA Bavaro

My wife and I spent one week at this resort at the end of March this year and would recommend it highly. The rooms, common areas and gardens are beautiful and well maintained. There are a number of a la ca...rte restaurants to choose from and the food is generally very good. Also a selection of very good wine, beer and alcohol to choose from. There is a pair of butlers assigned to each floor of the hotel and ours (Danillo and Edouardo) went above and beyond the call of duty. They were always there asking if they could help us in any way. Kiana at the front desk and all of the other staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There were many activities to choose from but the staff are careful not to interfere with guests who would just prefer a quiet vacation. Two points to note: The restaurants are busy around 7 pm. Better to go earlier or later. Also, the best (shadiest) cabanas and chaise lounges are taken early so get to the pool by 7:00. - 7:30 am to reserve a good spot. The resort should clear out unused spots after 2 hours to free these places up for other guests. Overall, a beautiful spot for a relaxing vacation. We were very sad to leave and look forward to returning.
The food in the restaurants was pretty bad Surf and Turf Lobster was horrible, Bug crawled across our hibachi table.

Food in the restaurants was sub par. Lobster was horrible in all of their restaurants. I c suggested they take it off the menu. We had a bug crawl across our hibachi table and was told it was a fly. Rooms ...were pretty clean the calking in the shower had signs of mold. Some of the mats on the beach chairs need replacing. There are several trip hazard’s to be aware of the stones are very slippery when wet, my wife broke her toenail on the little metal rings sticking up from the floor near the restaurants I assume the are used to hold down the screens. Also poor lighting on some of the walkways
Nice but came up short

I’m a little surprised about the five star reviews. I think my four star is even a bit generous. Love the grounds, love the beach. The three pools are excellent Our biggest issues were no bottled water, ...difficulty getting dinner accommodations, and whatever they call lobster. Our group of six found all of the restaurants to be subpar with the exception of the buffet and the filet mignon in the surf and turf restaurant, but do yourself a favor and avoid the lobster. You can’t make reservations for for dinner, which I understand, but when you get to a restaurant there could be a 90 minute wait, even though they may have empty tables. It was obvious they tried to juggle things because they are short of help but they give a million other excuses. Very annoyed that you couldn’t get a bottled water anywhere in the resort, and no diet soda available in your room . The stocked bar is joke, with a handful of stale pretzels, peanuts, and chips. The housekeeping was good, the staff, for the most part, very pleasant, but trying to communicate with some restaurant workers who don’t speak English is very frustrating. Also the bracelet used as a room key only worked half the time.

The resort is beautiful, clean and comfortable. Our butlers Armando and Houston were fantastic. The food was good, not great but the staff was friendly and took care of us. The beds were comfortable. I wo...uld not do a swim out room again just because you don’t use it as much as you would think.
Loved our time at JOIA.

Great time at the JOIA. Loved our time with butlers Houston and Armando. Good location, beach, and rooms. Bartenders Lely and Jacinto took care of us. Party on the boat was a great time. Food was good... just a long wait time when the restaurant are full.
