Average resort

Nicole P on May 31, 2025

We stayed here this past week and had a lot of fun- we only went to the water park once but due to inconsistent rules regarding the water slides The resort is huge but didn't feel over crowded, the rooms ...are decent and I'd say pretty average. The food/service is lacking though- this is the biggest complaint I have.... Staff seemed miserable but no one is on the same page- you can ask one person something and they'll send you to someone else who has zero clue what you're talking about so they'll then send you to another person and we would never get an answer to simple questions. Best restaurants are the Italian and French - we were ignored at the Brazilian restaurant and left after not being served. Service is also super slow everywhere, the buffet was always the same with zero variation. The entertainment team is amazing and the shows were great. Mario at the bar in the pool between the regular deep pool and ultimate side of things was fantastic, he was so nice to my chatty son and definitely made the trip memorable Gabriel is also a gem we met him at the concierge outside building 42 and he's cheerful, positive and gave us a ton of information.

Two week stay 1st-15th May

nicole b on May 31, 2025

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for two weeks from 1st May to 15th. I wouldn’t say it’s a luxury 5 star hotel but it is such a lovely place to stay. The reception/bar is stunning, the pool areas are great,... rooms are spacious and the beach is gorgeous too. It is definitely a family hotel, there’s so many activities for children. However, it’s still a nice stay for adults too. I’m not sure if all (standard) rooms are family rooms but it seems as though a lot of people were placed in family rooms. The room consisted of a double bed, a couch, balcony, shower and coffee facilities. The mini bar was topped up daily with water, beers and soft drinks. Rooms cleaned daily. The restaurants are good. Some days are better than others but we enjoyed the food never the less. I can’t comment on the buffets as we never ate here. We booked the restaurants on rotation. The stand out restaurant was definitely the tepinyaki. I did notice that there’s a couple of things on menus that staff don’t seem to be aware of. As an example, I ordered a burger in the steak restaurant as it had “jalapeño aioli” however it never came. When requested I was brought jalapeños, followed by a hot sauce. Breakfast was great - full breakfasts, omelettes, meats/cheeses, pancakes/crossaints/waffles, fruit and cakes. So much to choose from. The buffets are open at lunch time too (again we never used) but there is another snack bar (literally a restaurant) next to the pool in addition to the pizza station. The only annoying thing about the pizza is that they seem to love sweetcorn and ham. Margarita and pepperoni were rare!! The coffee shop is lovely and very cool. They sell coffees, pastries and ice cream. The sports bar is great. There’s no fighting for a sunbed. Plenty to choose from, you can even get one in the afternoon right in front of the pool. If you are looking for one of the umbrella ones, you will need to get up early for those. The majority of staff are very friendly. We never had any issues with not being served/not tipping. Drinks are good. So many cocktails to choose from. The spirits can be branded - Smirnoff/absolut vodka, gordons gin, Jameson, Bacardi and more. I was confused by the “premium” drinks as some brand don’t appear premium to me? (Bailey’s, disarrano, etc). Entertainment is great. It usually starts in the bar around 7 or 8pm with a singer followed by a 9:30pm show in the theatre. Once that’s finished you go outside to the front of the complex to watch a live band. The band seems to be the same every night. We did find that the majority (if not all) of the songs they sang were not English and so it wasn’t that entertaining for us. You can catch a free bus to the gift shop. However, the shop is around 40 minutes away and you are in the shop for around 90 minutes before you return… it is not worth it. The onsite shop does have souvenirs. It also has crisps/snacks which we did buy but I thought was rather expensive. E.g a bag of crisp is $5. The “members” can be transported round on golf carts but in my opinion it’s really lazy. The complex does seem huge but it doesn’t take long to walk around. The members also get access to their own restaurant and pool. The concierge will offer you a breakfast or dinner in the members restaurant but I believe they make you stay for a couple of hours. Luckily we didn’t do this but we heard quite a few others say they got stuck inside. Make sure to take mosquito spray and bite cream. You get bit quite a lot especially when queuing for the restaurants! Overall it is a hotel that could make a couple of improvements but we would definitely return if we came back to Dominican. Also, Saona Island is a MUST! We booked through a company that is onsite. Pick up was 7am and we returned around 7pm. It’s such a beautiful place to visit.

The best thing about this resort was the weather, the food at the buffet was the same everyday and always like warm which was worrying. Also silly things like running out of butter , fruit juice etc. some ...of the staff were very miserable and seemed under staffed which maybe why they didn’t seem happy. The rooms were ok nothing special, in all honesty very disappointing to be honest and I certainly wouldn’t come here again . The whole resort is very dated and needs re furbing . Sorry for the down beat review but am just being honest

Grand Serenis review - May 2025

earyan (Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) on May 26, 2025

I’ll start off by saying that this is NOT a five star hotel. So if you’re looking for luxury/five star, you won’t find it here. I’m not one to complain or to sweat to the little things, but I felt compelle...d to leave an honest review. When we arrived, we were put in a basic family suite - the room was in absolute horrible condition. It was dirty, There were visible stains (red?) on the pillows and bedding, There were ants and spiders inside the sheets in the bed, and the sliding glass door would not seal/close completely, so there were bugs getting in as we were on the ground level, the shower leaked bad, coffee maker was falling apart (literally LOL).. The room and everything in it was dated and it was clear that it had not been updated in a very long time, or properly cleaned for that matter. Lucky for us, we were able to upgrade into the “premium section”. The new room was clean and it was very apparent that this side had been updated recently. We loved this section and were happy with the new room as it was clean (Yay!) and ocean front so the ocean view was nice. Overall this is definitely a family resort and there were tons of kids, so my son had a blast at the pools and at the water park. As anywhere you go, Some servers were better then others, and provided really great/friendly service (Ana at the Macoa buffet!) however the service at the bars was spotty at best. The drinks differed every time, never tasting the same (quality) and it seemed like most bartenders tried to avoid using the blender to make speciality iced drinks… this is the first I’ve ever encountered this on an AI, it was bizarre. After a few days, when the pool servers noticed that you were a regular tipper the frozen drinks were easier to acquire through them directly. Not sure why this was, I still don’t understand it as any other AI I’ve been at always serve blended drinks at all times! Anyways, if you’re looking for a 3ish star but super family friendly, this is a great option! However, if you’re looking for 5* luxury, look elsewhere! We honestly had a fun time overall, but would never return to this resort.
