Manage your expectations…

If you are looking for a luxury and relaxing holiday, the Grand Sirenis is not for you. HOWEVER, if you can get a good deal (and have a good attitude) you can have a decent time away in the sun. As other reviews have said, this is far from a 5 star hotel. The things that let this resort down are the uncleanliness and poor service. The place is very unclean (tables never wiped, placemats, floors and chairs stained- especially bad in the buffet areas) and the service is consistently bad. You are made to feel like you are inconveniencing the staff, even when asking for something small like cutlery or water. We had decent experience of the bar service however, especially in the lobby and beach bar. The rooms are fine, just a little tired, but definitely not luxury. Pros: - The grounds are well kept and the greenery is beautiful. - The hotel is right on the beach with plenty of loungers on the beach. - The pool is large and some sections are quite deep so you can properly swim! The area around the pool is decently well kept. - Buffet food selection is good. - The French restaurant is good, however you may be waiting 30+mins to have your order taken or have to ask 3 times to order drinks. Cons: - Breakfast- the most chaotic part of the day. Not enough cleared tables (even in low season), may have to ask a few times for water or cutlery and the chairs and tables are unclean. By the end of the holiday, I chose to avoid the breakfast buffet and go to the coffee shop instead as they sometimes have pastries there. - There is music constantly throughout the resort from around 7am. Want to listen to the relaxing waves? Tough luck- have a mix of American acoustic covers on top of party pool music instead. It would be fine for a few hours a day…but it is constant. However, you do get used to it quickly. - Slow service. We are on day 10 so have tried all restaurants. Without fail, every evening we have had to ask multiple times to have our order taken, for drinks and sometimes if our food was coming, after an hour. It seems like anytime we ask (for anything reasonable…like to order after 30mins of sitting) we are inconveniencing them. Maybe because we are a small group of 2 we get forgot about as large groups do tend to be served more quickly. - Most restaurants aren’t great- they are far from a restaurant experience, more like a canteen experience. - We both experienced back pain/stiffness from the mattress. - There’s no nice bar to hang out in the evening, only the lobby which gets very busy and very loud if there is entertainment and doesn’t feel much like a bar. We wished there was a nicer bar to sit at in the evenings. Tips: - Go to breakfast early, or miss it and go to the coffee shop. Try and sit outside for breakfast if there is space, it is slightly less chaotic outside. - There is a quieter pool bar on the left side of the pool, close to the ultimate exclusive club section. - Avoid at all costs the offer of the ultimate club member tour. I can’t see how the ultimate club can offer much more in this resort- if you had the money for that, you may as well stay at a better place. - Walk along the beach - all beaches in the DR are public so you can walk as long as you like past other resorts! There’s even a bar/restaurant about 5 min walk up the beach that we went to a few times as it was quieter than the resort. - The front ‘plaza’ of the resort is quite nice and there is an American food truck which serves food until 1am. The entertainment here was also decent! - Bring a bit of tip money, dollars or Dominican pesos. - The gardening staff will cut coconuts and you can tip to have one. Overall, I’d be disappointed if we paid more for this holiday however we quickly learnt to manage our expectations and, because of this, we still had a decent time.
Save your money and go elsewhere

I wouldn't even rate this as a 2 star hotel. Service is HORRIBLE. We had 2 towels for 4 people for the first 2.5 days. I asked 7 people for more towels before I finally got 2 more. The first day we were there we were eating lunch in the buffet and a server spilt water in the floor. My 2.5 year old got up off his chair and fell and smashed his head. They didn't bother to clean it up the entire time we were eating. The one day our room didn't even get cleaned, I had no toilet paper or water and had to call to ask for some. They never clean the tables in between plates at the buffet, they just pile up until you leave. There's never any servers asking if you need a drink and unless you speak Spanish they completely ignore you at the bars. Our safe stopped working and we had to call to get someone to fix it, all my stuff was locked in there and I couldn't get it. The entertainment is subpar. Honestly save your money and go else where.. You could give me a free vacation here and I wouldn't come. Definitely not 5 star, maybe 2 at best! The resort itself has potential but it definitely needs new management and staff all around! I didn't meet a single person who would return. The good reviews must either be paid reviews or people that speak Spanish.
