The location is amazing. Right off the beach, and steps from playa del Carmen city, where you can walk around and eat. Food at the resort was pretty mediocre, but if you’re half board I would suggest eating lunch at fuego (because it’s unlimited) and going into town for dinner. (Dinner in town was amazing at every restaurant). Service was good, everyone was nice, especially Enrique, he was always friendly. The things that don’t make it a 5 star rating: waters aren’t included with dinner, and they charge like $3.50 usd per water. The suggested 15/20 percent of the bill when the bill should be nonexistent because we payed ahead of time for it to be included, is ridiculous. Make sure you bring cash and tip whatever you want, don’t fall for the suggested 20% of a made up number. Our room flooded when it rained, and the rooms are extremely not soundproof (think hostel level of noise). There was a wedding at las olas one night and the music was booming until 12am. Otherwise, we had a nice stay, but I don’t think it was quite worth the money.

We ate at Fuego restaurant and it was so good. Best ceviche ever. Go To Lobster night , Tuesdays and Fridays ! Roberto helped us he was very polite and attentive. Hotel property seems nice. Right on the beach , will definitely be coming back for lunch or for a stay.

Everything was perfect. Nice Pools, nice location. Food was amazing! We booked half-Board and can highly recommend it. Drink Prices are ok. Hotel is looking Like a tropical paradise. It‘s located Perfect Like in the middle of the bars and Restaurants in Playa.

Last day at Mahekal, before returning to Canada. A beautiful property.. nice to unplug and not see a TV at every turn! Would like to acknowledge Lisa (guest yoga instructor from Las Vegas). She was exceptional and made her classes enjoyable. Mahekal should do a better job of marketing this activity! So many people were not even aware it existed, until they found out from us… too little, too late. Also, want to send a special shout out to Enrique and the entire restaurant staff!! It’s very rare these days, to find staff that truly seem happy and content with their jobs. Well done all, we really appreciated your attention and also helping me practice my Spanish.

Mahekal has been super relaxing, amazing staff all across. During our booking we were provided a complimentary special included with a 5 course meal at Fuego . Our server Guillermo took amazing care of us & were quick to pick up after our dishes & being the next course meal. The staff here are so pleasant & easy to talk too . Even with Zuli who was assisting Guillermo in assuring we had a pleasant dinner . This review is highly focused on Fuego which is a restaurant at the hotel that has an amazing view of the ocean, super relaxing (music may be provided depending on time & day) & overall breath taking to enjoy this time with your spouse, family, or friends .
