3 months - Pay your workers - the public is over it!
C S (Ukiah, California) on Dec 19, 2024
Hotel Strike -3 Months -all around Union Square -4 big hotel chains and yet rooms cost the same price as always. There is no mention of this hotel strike which is impossible to get around except in the square of Union Square itself. Besides having to cross a picket line, room feels unclean and inside instead of a cheery holiday vibe it just feels dreary and why can’t these workers have basic health care and improved wages? The strike is from 7 am-10pm and it is loud with steak drums and megaphones and chanting. I decided to look up what the CEO and owners made last year: Mark S. Hoplamazian $56.4 million Jay Pritzker $20.6 million And other big wigs making comparable millions amount. This is unjust. I’ll stay at a boutique hotel from now on.
Well Appointed Hotel

The hotel is located in a great area by Union Square, close to shops and restaurants. Hotel is well appointed with comfortable beds and clean rooms. Food is available at hotel restaurant/bar. Staff was very helpful and welcoming. Would stay again and recommend.
Good location with Ongoing issues

As of my stay on December 7th, there are union workers on strike outside of the establishment. They are banging on barrels and shouting at all hours of the night. Our room was on the “striking side” as the front desk put it. We were still able to hear the noise on the 29th floor. The bathroom faucet would leak all over the sink too. Asking staff questions would usually result in “i don’t know, it’s my 2nd day here”. It seems like the strike may have something to do with it. It’s a little disappointing, we stayed at this location a few months back and didn’t have these issues. Hopefully the labor dispute gets resolved before our next trip. Will have to look elsewhere otherwise.

Pay your workers

Pay your workers. If you do not pay your workers fairly and treat them better, then your hotel will gain a reputation as a very annoying and unpleasant place to stay. I was disappointed by how few staff were available to help me with my requests, how little food and beverage service was available, and how much noise was coming from the strike picket outside. This is not something I blame the workers for, far from it. They deserve to be compensated and treated better. Your executives and board are clearly very wealthy and you can afford to treat your workers better. It will make for a better hotel experience for your customers. But calling the stay I just had at this hotel--for 9 nights in an executive suite--a "four star hotel" is laughable.
