A week away from the cold
SusanDale58 (Winnipeg, Canada) on Dec 11, 2024
Highly reccomend except for a few non issues. 2 retired Canadians who wanted a week away. Leaving December 12th. Arrived Dec 5th westjet. Authentic Mexican hotel... Had to change rooms as all Canadians we spoke to. Given a musty room, no safe, dirty, sliding door will not lock. No big deal. New room is clean. Nice beds, new pillows. Housekeeping top notch! Good food, a nice variety. Lots of choices are both canadian and Mexican, and hot always and very tasty. Beach bar has amazing pizza and various ceviche that are very fresh. Make sure you book Al la carte at 7 am, not like they tell you, and the paper says 11am. ALL GONE. It was ok at best and very rushed..Stick with the buffet. Staff at the beach bar is amazing. Make sure to tip them a bit, they work soo hard Grounds are well kept, and it's a great hotel for the price. 99% are so kind and its a great secret gem.... Watch for the iguana that comes out by the pool beach at around 4pm.. he's so cool. And walk to the canal to look for the the 12ft Crocodile that suns there late afternoon. So cool! Location is also very good, use Uber if u can, so cheap and easy. Or walk to the Malecon, 20 minutes. Negative- room keys never work, 9 in 1 week failed . And finally, the long haired blond lady at the front desk should remember we sometimes understand Spanish. And when we have an issue, calling us names in Spanish is not only not nice, it's really sad. We would come back, as long as we weren't insulted again in Spanish.
Nice resort, but horrible deafening music.

We are owners, and have stayed here for 3-5 weeks every year for the last 18+ years. We have noticed several improvements: Filthy, mildewed and torn curtains to our balcony have been replaced. Air conditioning has been updated with digital controls that actually work. Pool waiters are very friendly and eager to meet whatever needs you might have. We are in the main tower, and our room is ocean front with a beautiful view. Housekeeping staff work really hard and do a great job. We had the same half functional coffee maker for years. Pleasantly surprised to see it had been replaced with new Black and Decker. Our microwave did not work, and a housekeeping supervisor took the time to figure out the problem. No smoking or personal boom boxes at poolside are being enforced. Much more pleasant. Also much quieter at night. The one thing we are very unhappy about is the deafening ugly music at the pool. This year is the worst it has ever been. One of the activity guys played a mix tape that was nasty rap. Lyrics to one song, I"m Sexy and I Know it" are lewd and entirely inappropriate for a family resort...."I'm sexy and I know it....I've got something in my pants I want to show it." Who wants to listen to a rapper who wants to flash his penis? Gross. Pool music was so loud and obnoxious this afternoon we gave up and went back to our room. That music was a series of very repetitious synthesized tracks laid down on a really loud bass disco beat that was deafening. I shared my concerns with the young woman who lead activities for the day. Her response was she would have to talk to her boss about it. I hope she follows through, and I hope her manager has the sense to make some changes. How about some nice Mexican music? The only way we will be able to enjoy sitting in a cabana and watching the ocean will be if we wear earplugs. So unless you are hoping for profound hearing loss, I would recommend choosing a different resort. Pelicanos Grand has many nice features, but if you can't even carry on a conversation it just isn't worth it. I suggest Pelicanos management should sit at the poolside for a few hours and experience for themselves how awful the loud music/noise really is.
I want my money back!!! Worst place ever.

Horrible experience with front desk staff. One and half days the air conditioning was broken. The speciality restaurant was worst than the normal buffet restaurant, food cold, tasteless. When the air conditioning was broken to cool off when for a late swim at one of their pools but the smell of pee was overwhelming. We noticed once we were in the water. Some of the bellboys were so rude. We attempted to speak to a manager but we were denied. All around horrible. The one good thing they have is their little coffee shop place. Would never go back nor ever recommend it.
Bad taste for such high prices.

Where should I start...the room that I requested was handicapped room, but I did not get. I was guaranteed that I would be getting a handicapped room when I booked. It is hard for a person in a wheel chair to move around tight spaces, and let me tell, small rooms, low toilet height and try to squeeze in thru that narrow restroom door. And yet, I did not see anybody else in a wheel chair or needing a handicapped room. Second, no INTERNET, how can one work or even entertain kids when there is no internet in the rooms. I called reception, and I was told, that the internet should not reach the rooms, only in the common areas. As much money as I paid and their lack of internet, unacceptable. The food was repetitive day after day after day. Do the cooks not know how to cook other items. Leftovers are a must from last night's menu items. Cleanliness, is not on their list in the restaurant. On the good side, we had a little bird come and eat on our table, good sign, I suppose. The pool was closed for cleaning when it is jam packed. Talk about trying to explain that to your kids. The toilet valve was leaking and nobody went to even check it out, or acknowledge. They made you sign a rule document stating everything that they charge just in case...from loosing a towel ($400 Pesos), (lost key ($500 pesos). These are just examples of how ridiculous and anal they are with their guests. Come on, I never saw a general manager or someone higher up in the hotel. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL!!!
Not on the beach

The pictures are deceiving. This resort is not on the beach. You have to cross the street and into their "Grand" resort. The Pelicanos "club beach resort" is NOT on the beach. You can't even see it until you cross the street, and walk up some stairs on to the sister resort.
