Currently at the Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort and first off a lot of the negative reviews are EXTREME! It’s a BEAUTIFUL, STUNNING resort. The room is great, no smell or anything. AC works perfectly. There are definitely things they can improve but some of these reviews again are EXTREME and I’m not sure why. The resort is HUGE… I mean like a city. Some things aren’t convenient because it’s so big but also lack of planning/poor execution. Example: to get beach towels you have to go to one specific place by the main pool. BUT things like the water park are on the other end of the resort so if you didn’t know that and didn’t take towels assuming you could get them there you would have to walk an INSANE amount just to go get towels. The people we were with preferred to just NOT get towels rather than to walk that distance for them and I’m not exaggerating it’s so dang far. Other inconveniences: they try so hard to make the experience feel VIP but it ends up not making sense… example: we were told to leave our suitcases at the front where someone would get them for us. When we went in to check in 2 people were chatting with a woman, seemingly not doing anything and another staff member was helping someone. To check in it took a ridiculous amount of time even though there seemed to be staff and we were the only ones in line to check in. We have two toddlers that were getting antsy after a long day of traveling. We finally check in and they tell us to wait on the side for someone to come in with our suitcases from right outside where we left them… to take us to our room. We waited another 20+ minutes when we could’ve just brought in our own luggage and found our room. We were hungry, tired and had 2 kids with us but they kept making us wait for things that seemed unnecessary for the sake of feeling “taken care of”. The food is ok. The atlántico buffet is hit or miss depending on the day but tonight’s dinner selection was good, for example, although the past few days it hasn’t been. We have yet to try the other restaurants - but have reservations for them this week - piece of advice book restaurants through the app the first day you check in to hotel. If you have trouble go to customer service in lobby to help you book. The reservations go fast and there isn’t always walk in availability. Another piece of advice find out where everything is and what you need (towels, etc) for the day so that you aren’t walking back and forth multiple times to get things that are all the way on the other end of the resort. Must try the ice cream shop and must try the ice cream roll cart at the atlántico buffet! These are amazing! If working out is your thing the gym is HOOKED UP REALLY NICE! All the machines you can think of and squat racks/barbells, weights etc Other than that everyone is SO NICE. It’s a beautiful resort and I would definitely say you should check it out and have your own experience. I have a 4 and 1.5 year old and it is super family/kid friendly. Everyone is so sweet to the kids too. Don’t believe the extreme negative reviews!
Horrific Experience at Lopesan Costa Bavaro – Avoid This Place at All Costs!

If you’re searching for luxury and top-notch customer service, Lopesan Costa Bavaro is not the place for you. Do yourself a favor and run away from this awful excuse for a resort! We arrived at the hotel around 3:45 PM, and our first impression was shockingly negative. The pool area looked disgustingly outdated and filthy—rusted chairs, stained and worn-out pool towels, and trash strewn everywhere. It was as if they hadn’t bothered to clean up in days. To make matters worse, all the restaurants were closed except for the over-crowded American à la carte restaurant and a poolside snack bar. The snacks were inedible—seriously, there was damaged lettuce on the hamburgers! Our toddlers were horrified and refused to eat. When we finally managed to get into our swimsuits and head to the kids’ pool area, it was closed by 5 PM. We were left with only the main pool, which closed at 6:30 PM, so we barely had time to enjoy it. Hoping to salvage our stay, we ventured to the front desk to make reservations for the restaurants, only to be told that there were no reservations available because the hotel was at full capacity. What kind of luxury hotel doesn’t allow reservations for their restaurants? The app they provided was a joke—unlike other hotels, it didn’t let you book anything before check-in. Frustrated, we decided to cut our losses and leave. We spoke with the front desk, and the representative assured us we would get a full refund if we left. But when we returned to check out, Alexander Castillo, one of the front desk staff, claimed we’d be charged $900 for a one-night penalty. We were left standing there with our two exhausted toddlers, waiting almost an hour for a manager named Lenny who was “having dinner” to sort out the mess. We never even saw Lenny, and the staff argued in front of us about who was right and wrong. In the end, they agreed to a partial refund and charged us for a day pass. It was a complete nightmare. Do yourself a favor—skip Lopesan Costa Bavaro if you want a luxurious, hassle-free vacation. This place is a total disaster, from filthy facilities to appalling customer service. Save your money and your sanity—this hotel is an absolute nightmare!
