Overview
Just off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula sits Holbox Island, an unspoiled paradise that’s home to beautiful beaches, bioluminescent bays and sleepy fishing villages. Holbox is an island lost in time with untold beauty, still engrossed in rich culture and history. After arriving into Cancun Airport you will take a shuttle for roughly 2 hours followed by a ferry for roughly 20 mins to get to your hotel. Think of a small, unspoiled island paradise dotted with gently swaying palms, where crystal-clear turquoise waters kiss white-sand shores and golden afternoons seem to go on forever.

Great first impression but a big disappointment.

Beautiful hotel and rooms. That's it. Further very poor experience. Location: the distance from the property to the main and only town area of the island. You can walk it, but you will need to be prepared to walk at least 25 minutes. Roads are sand / mud and not lighted, so bring a torch if you are walking back at night! Taking taxis will be expensive. Hotel communicates that they have bikes but when we were there we could not use them because they were all in maintenance.... Service: You can not run a tab and have to pay for every food or drink immediately. WiFi: very poor Mini bar: empty although their website says it's free. When asked they say it is the 2 small bottles of water that are free. No fridge in room. Bring plenty of water/snacks with you before you check in. There is no shop at all in the neighborhood. Restaurant: poor quality. Free breakfast they offer is limited to a choice of 3 dishes. Beach: is ok but certainly not great. Much better beach north of town at Playa Holbox. Other "services": we tried to join the yoga class offered in the morning. No yoga instructor appeared.
Underwhelmed

We had a very mixed experience at the Náay Hotel. The facilities there are lovely, the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The pool is great with plenty of cabanas and lounges surrounding it. Being on the beach it is possible to walk into town via the beach which was a massive bonus when the streets were flooded. Unfortunately the service and food left a lot to be desired. The female receptionist couldn’t have been less helpful if she tried and we caught her outright fibbing to us on more than one occasion to avoid doing things. When asked if she could recommend a spa, as it turns out the website is incorrect in listing there being any spa services, she told us just to walk along the beach and find one (it was well over 30 degrees out and the last thing anyone would want was a beachside massage!) The food at the restaurant was fairly mediocre. And all bar one morning we were told there was no juice available for breakfast, despite them having all the makings for cocktails (that contained fruit juices). Overall we would probably recommend staying closer to the town if possible so as to have access to more dining options, and hopefully get better service.
