Logistical nightmare, nice view
1travelerm0m (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) on Dec 28, 2024
Arrived at noon, told to wait for text when room was available. At 4, still no text and forced to wait in 20-person line for room status second time. At 5:30 tried to go to 40th floor restaurant but elevators were broken so it took 30 minutes to get there (and 30 minutes back) and waitress ignored us. Took hour to take elevator to nothing. Tried to use a $10 credit for $27 drinks from uninterested staff in a loud room. View is nice, pool and activities/games are nice but it’s a logistical nightmare.
Overall, I would give it a high rating

I stayed there for 7 nights. The hotel has a really good location as it is walking distance from several tourist sites (aircraft carrier, maritime museum, Petco Park). You can also take the trolley or city bus to the airport or Balboa park. There is a pool and two hot tubs located on the 4th floor. The hotel does charge a "destination fee" of $42. So, make sure you quote the price with the fee. With the fee, you can get a free boat tour, 1 free hour of bike rental as well as 1 free hour of kayak rental. The view from my room was good as well. There is also a firepit that runs at night. I didn't pay for breakfast and didn't have a car. So, I cannot comment on either of those items. There was a rooftop cinema as well, but the price seemed rather high. There are some downsides to the hotel. The shade in my room was tattered a bit and some of the towels really needed to be thrown out as they were worn out. The luggage rack in my room was broken. So, I had to ask for a new one. There was a cooler in the room, but no microwave. I disliked the fact that you had to check out pool towels using your key. If one doesn't get recorded as being returned, they charge you $25. I had to review my bill very closely to notice the charge. They took it off the bill without any question, though. There are quite a few restaurants very close. You can also walk to the Gaslamp district for many more options. The elevators are controlled before you get on the elevator. One elevator bank covered the upper floors. That elevator bank seemed busier than the lower floors.
