First I'll say that the large majority of the staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive. Paulette from housekeeping, Donyoe our concierge, Herman at the beach, Shakira at Mangoes, the entire staff at ...the restaurant on the golf course went above and beyond. We were disappointed by a few things and want to help others when trying to decide what things are important to you when traveling. This is not a high end resort. It is clean and there are lots of things to do but it isn't a luxury property by any means. The food is meh. Quality and variety leave room for much improvement. The restaurants have very limited seating for a property this size during dinner. Service is not fast, which we were ok with because we like to sit and talk and relax. Waiting in line is a bummer. If my kids were small, waiting might be harder. We went to the buffet 1 night after hearing the wait time was 1.5 hours at all the sit down places and it was ok. Our server Sonya was very sweet and attentive. I'm just not a huge buffet person! The Seaside Grill has a very nice view but the food was something I'd expect on an airplane. Not good. Having said that, my kids were happy to be able to get whatever they wanted when they wanted it. We did enjoy the baked goods, ice cream and coffee at the coffee shop. We went to the steak house one night which was $40/person and had a lovely experience. The host was very friendly giving us some historical highlights of the property. He was great! The food was a step above what you get at the other restaurants so we enjoyed our evening. There are lots of maintenance issues and things just aren't being maintained the way they should be. For example when getting off the elevator to go to the beach/pool area the hallway is very dark and there are three large holes that have been patched in the wall but not painted. We were they 5 days never saw anyone working on them and honestly it looks like they have been that way for quite some time. We had booked 2 connecting rooms which we did not get. Ok not a huge deal since my kids are old enough but not great. The rooms both were in major need of touch up paint and smelled a little musty. One of the rooms shower door had a seal that was falling off, causing water to run out all over the floor. It just feels like small details that could be easily handled but aren't. On two different occasions we didn't have hot water. They did fix it after calling to report it but really what the heck??? The faucet on the sink was not installed properly and it was hard to get the water to turn off. We were on the 7th floor so the view from both rooms was nice and they were clean so I have to give them credit for that. We experienced an issue in our room at 1:30 AM and immediately contacted the front desk. A maintenance worker was sent up to address the problem, but it was a major inconvenience, and we were ultimately moved to a different room. The new room was farther from our children and had a worse view. While we were given a small resort credit and some points as compensation, this only happened after multiple requests on our part. We accepted it, primarily to move past the issue and continue with our vacation. However, I feel that we should have been offered more, and it was a missed opportunity for the resort to make us feel like valued guests. Perhaps, as Gold-level Hilton Honors members, we weren't prioritized the same way Diamond members would be!?! We had booked a cabana for 3 of the days but after seeing what they consider a cabana, my family didn't feel like it was worth the money. They are rather small with only 4 lounges, a 5th won't even fit. They look more like those portable tents that you bring to your kids baseball tournament than a true cabana. The chairs in our cabana had cushions but they were damp and musty. No thank you! The cabanas at the beach were a bit nicer but they were full of sand and just not what I'm used to at other resorts. We didn't like the location they put us in either so we just decided to scrap the cabana idea and went down early to reserve chairs the rest of the time. The woman running the cabanas wasn't very helpful or apologetic about making the situation right. It was a bit disappointing. The property was nice for our active kids who did enjoy the kayaks, lazy river, basketball hoops at the tennis court and the waterslide. The beach is nice, its not very large but sufficient. It is split by a pier that had caution tape on it to prevent people from going out on it. It looks worse for wear and again appears to have been that way for sometime. We had been talked into doing the Playa Collection pitch but after seeing the way this property is not maintained, the way they didn't make a concerted effort to right the room situation and the quality of the food we decided that these properties are probably not for us. We booked a private excursion through Jamaica Tours prior to coming Jamaica. It was a great experience! So worth it! Our driver Michael and tour guide Marcia were OUTSTANDING! We went to Dunn River Falls, lunch at Linda's and then to the Blue Hole. It was the highlight of the trip! This was an all day affair and it was great to get out and see so much of Jamaica. The drive was scenic and both Michael and Marcia were so knowledgeable and helpful! We absolutely felt the "ya mon" vibe and see why people love Jamaica!

Have just returned from 9 nights here and whilst there are positives such as the location, the setting, facilities for children, room sizes and amenities and cleanliness - including the beach, there are al...so major negatives. Aside from the main lobby area which looks freshly renovated the rest of the hotel is rundown and tired, carpets need replacing, paintwork is shoddily done and there are uneven/broken pathways. No matter what setting we tried on the aircon in our room it was very cold so we left it off most of the time, also the interior of the buffet was cold - you had a choice of either eating in a freezer or eating outside and being deafened by the constant music both at breakfast and evening. To get a poolside sunbed you had to be up early with your towel, we opted for the beach, which was clean and quieter however the sunbeds are all lined up next to each other - there is some space to move them but you are always in close proximity to others. There never seemed to enough staff at reception resulting in queues, especially at check in/out times. The biggest problem is the ludicrous first come first served basis at all the restaurants, except the buffet. Not all the restaurants are open every evening and are small, resulting in long queues before they opened to either eat earlier or to try and get on a waiting list, though 45 minutes after opening at the Seaside Grill the waiting list was already full when I tried one evening. Essentially the majority of guests had no choice but to eat in the buffet every night, where there was a wide selection of options but the hot food, both at breakfast and dinner, was not always hot. The service in the restaurants is laid back and friendly, don't expect silver service! We ate at the 3 Palms steakhouse one night, both the setting and food are lovely but I question whether or not it's worth an extra $40 per person. Be aware of the Playa reps inviting you to a presentation- it's at least a 90 minute hard sell to sign up for a membership scheme. The hotel website claims "the best all-inclusive Jamaican resort in Montego Bay" if this is the best then I hate to think what the others are like. The best thing about this hotel is the staff who were unfailingly friendly and cheerful. This was our first time in Jamaica and we loved the country and the people, I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel.
