Not open Found out from the dive shop we booked with that they were closed and will not be open in time for our stay a week before out intended stay. Called Barcelo who told us that we booked through expedia so had to deal with expedia, expedia had no idea the hotel had closed, we had to inform them and luckily they rebooked us but no longer in cozumel.... I hear the resort is supposed to be rebooking people at their sister resort but we were not given this option and told we were out of luck
Be Advised, the Occidental is getting VERY GREEDY !!

Looks like Greed to me. We went to the Occidental Cozumel one year ago, and really liked it, so we booked again for Nov 2024 (Royal level). Then, 1.5 weeks prior to our arrival, we got an email from the Occidental that “due to maintenance” our reservation was being transferred to the Allegro, and a 50% reduction would be offered to come back, expiring in Dec 2025. Hmmm, that’s odd… I went to book the Occidental (Royal level) for the exact same dates (after the email), it was available, except for double the price. ...interesting. Perhaps the actual building we were booked in was getting renovated, but then why don’t they transfer us to the Royal room that I could easily book online, now and not try move us. I’ve been reading a few reviews from Sept 2024 that they arrived at the Occ Cozumel to learn they were being transferred to the Allegro, without prior notice (that’s frustrating). So, we booked at a competitor’s resort, for slightly more cost, and quickly cancelled the Occidental. It seems that the Occidental is trying to fill up the Allegro (their sister resort), which has horrible reviews, and make more money on rebooking our previous room to last minute travellers. Smells like GREED to me. Perhaps I’m wrong, but the Occidental seems to making the following assumptions 1. People will simply accept the move to Allegro, and accept a suspicious credit, 2. People will not write reviews online (like this one) warning other travellers, 3. People will not investigate the competitor’s resorts, cancel the Occidental, and never go back. We travel extensively, and I can promise you, I will always look at other resort companies before I ever book an Occidental resort again. They cannot treat their customer’s this way, and get away with it. Traveller’s BEWARE.
