A review of Curacao Complete Island Tour

Stecky417 (Boston, Massachusetts) on Jul 13, 2024

The hotel is located on a beautiful beach with many options for fun including the pool and bars. Disappointed with the food. Cor and Don's BBQ was outstanding, yet the service lacked (45 minutes to get served the first course), Ristorante Siciliano was mediocre at best, but the availability of food/snacks was outstanding. The lobby bar/was key and had delicious cappuccinos. Housekeeping was great and helpful. How about an adults-only option?

Amazing Family Vacation at Hilton Mangrove

DKAK1114 on Jul 13, 2024

I'd like to start this review by saying I read multiple reviews prior to our trip and was extremely anxious about our stay but was so glad our experience was completely different. We stayed at the Hilton Mangrove end of June into the first week of July as a family of 6 (2 grandparents, 2 adults, 2 children 10 & 8). We had an absolute amazing time! Upon arriving at the resort, a bell boy greeted us, helped with our luggage, and showed us to check-in for Hilton Gold Members. We met Daniele who was incredibly kind, efficient and helpful. He checked us into two rooms next to one another (this was not something we requested but Daniele thought would be beneficial to our family) and explained the layout of the resort/restaurants. Daniele went above and beyond and made all our dinner reservations for the entire week that I provided to him. He even spent time with me suggesting sight seeing and snorkeling opportunities throughout the island. When we checked into our rooms, they were very clean. I'm a neat freak who usually wipes down all touch surfaces as we arrive in the room and I didn't feel I needed to. Housekeeping did a wonderful job making our beds, providing clean towels and restocking us with waters and snacks everyday. As we explored the resort, all the pools, restaurants and restrooms were also clean. There are times where you may find empty plates and cups in the pool area or on the tables by the outside snack shack. The workers do their best to clear this throughout the day but are also busy cooking food and preparing drinks. We simply put our used things on the counter for the workers to easily grab. The food at the resort was delicious and had a lot of variety! We did the buffet for breakfast and lunch and always left full and satisfied. There are pigeons since it is open air but they left us alone. We never left our food unattended at the table. I would suggest to have more hand sanitizing stations near the tables. There was one at the entrance but I always like to wash my hands after touching the serving utensils. A restroom is in the buffet area so we simply washed hands before eating. There are multiple staff members clearing and setting up tables with napkins and utensils. During busy times, it was hard for them to keep up setting tables so we just grabbed our own utensils... not a big deal. Restaurants we ate at: Mexican (at The Rif)- This was a favorite for our family. Delicious food, our server was outstanding, and the chefs made accommodations for two of our picky eaters. BBQ- A fun experience but a longer meal since they are preparing the meat fresh. I'd suggest sitting with your back to the grills to avoid the smoke. The chicken and ribs were fantastic! Italian- Our pastas were great! We experienced some miscommunication with our server due to a language difference but the cooks and other servers helped to correct our order. Seafood- This was my husband and father in law's favorite place. They said it was the best salmon and dessert they ever had. Turkish (at the Rif)- A perfect opportunity for us to try some new foods. The kabobs were really good but we were not a fan of the desserts. Our kids loved Shana at the Smoothie Shack. She was so friendly and let them sample lots of flavors before deciding what they wanted. The pool and beach bartenders were constantly busy making drinks. They did their best to help everyone as soon as possible. We loved all the pools! The main pool is rather deep for children. I saw lots of families bring small rafts and floats and wish we would have done that. Our kids loved the small pools on the side of the hotel. They were able to stand in there, play games and we always had the pool to ourselves. The waterpark was a blast! Our kids loved all the slides especially the King Cobra. The yellow/orange slide was not working (needed a part imported) but it was not a big deal since we never had to wait in line for any of the other slides. I would recommend they have more waterpark staff. Some kids were riding down 2-3 kids at a time and were climbing up slides on the water fort area. I don't know where the parent supervision was but anytime a worker did see this unsafe behavior, they told the kids to stop. Our kids really enjoyed the kids activities! Kirsty and Sona were the absolute sweetest! They did art, made cookies and pizzas and fed the fish with our children. Kirsty taught our daughter a few Dutch words. She also gave us sight seeing suggestions. Our kids liked having the activities to do! The nighttime entertainment was relaxing to watch after being in the sun all day. The Curaçao experience was our favorite! We enjoyed the costumes, dances and marching band. Our daughter enjoyed the Kids Disco. The songs do repeat each night but I think it's so the kids learn the moves. We are still singing the songs! The beach was beautiful. Our kids loved the ocean swings and floating dock. We snorkled a lot and saw a ton of fish and 2 sea turtles. The entrance to the left side of the ocean is rocky but the right side is not. We were able to rent a car in the lobby and explored the island one day. We saw a blow hole, unbelievable beaches, lots of sea turtles, hundreds of fish, wild pigs and cool birds. It was so much more affordable than booking an excursion and we felt safe throughout the entire island. We ventured to the downtown area. It was a quick 10min walk from the resort. We got to experience the Curaçao culture by listening to music, learning history of the island and walking across the floating bridge. A few random things that happened to us but did NOT take away from our overall amazing trip: -One evening, the water pressure in the shower was very minimal. I think it's because so many people were using the showers in the resort. -The fire alarm did go off at midnight one night. The staff confirmed it was a false alarm and everyone was safe. It was a little frantic but made for funny stories the next day. We had an unforgettable time in Curaçao and loved our stay at the Hilton Mangrove! We will definitely recommend it to families and friends!
