Amazing service, beautiful property, all in a Caribbean paradise

My wife and I took our high school senior daughter here for her final spring break. We got a swim up room and had club access which made the experience even more amazing. The club bar, Cocoonz, has a fan...tastic staff (Deiby, Luis, Yani, Anyeli, and Yessenia) that provides great pool side and bar service with amazing drinks! There were lots of great food options and fun experiences like the hibachi grill at Tempest Table. The buffet host, Mercela, even remembered our names making a very welcoming experience. Our butler Christopher was also very helpful and friendly! There were great water activities - from sailing to kayaking and paddle boarding to a nice water park - all included and easily available. Chairs go fast around the pool, so plan to get up early to reserve a chair. And the Wi-Fi wasn’t super reliable but it kept us off our phones and focused on relaxing.
5 Star Family All-Inclusive

Our family of 5 (3 teens) completed a 7 night stay and had a fantastic time! We have been to numerous all-inclusives from Beaches to Iberostar and this was right up there with Beaches Turks. We were un...able to secure connecting rooms at booking but upon arrival we received an attractive offer for connecting rooms with club level swim-up access. We have never had a swim up room before and the novelty quickly wore off. We would not pay a premium for this. However, it was well worth the extra cost to be together and have a bed for each teen and enjoy the club benefits. We had read to request dehumidifiers and glad we did. We had to empty them multiple times a day so definitely worth having if you can deal with the noise which is basically like a sound machine. It was nice to be in a relatively new hotel room as so many resorts in the DR and elsewhere in the Caribbean are showing their age. The plumbing, electrical, lighting and air conditioning were great and the rooms even have ceiling fans. The cleaning staff never missed anything and restocked drinks and snacks daily which is something I cannot say about other resorts. I would like to recognize Walma from the bell service team who went above and beyond in his customer service and was always looking for ways of help us as we passed through the lobby area up and through our departure. The service level from the staff really sets this experience apart from other places. As an example, and I wish I remembered her name, a Club Pool bartender voluntarily cut up a grapefruit to make fresh squeezed juice for a cocktail I wanted. Only she knew she had a grapefruit in the back. We almost exclusively procured our drinks from Club areas as the selection and drink quality was noticeably better. Deibi at the Club Pool bar was exceptional and had great recommendations and customer service. As an example, he noticed we had a food buzzer with us for some takeout lunch and hailed down a Club waitress to take control of the buzzer and retrieve our food so we could relax at the pool. We also enjoyed the club breakfast at Shutters and Chianola. Shutters had a superior view but is adults only. The food lived up to the hype as the best all-inclusive food we have ever experienced. The kids loved the endless buffet options at the Mercado and we had two great dinners each at Tempest (hibachi and Mongolian) and Noodle and Thread (braised short ribs are the best). The small sushi bar at the Rum Bar is a nice touch if you’re waiting for a table. With older children, the ability to go over to the adults only Zilaria was really nice. We had a 4 course dinner at Brando’s, which was a culinary highlight of the trip, and Waves had properly cooked steaks which are hard to get at all inclusives. Perhaps our favorite part of Zilaria is their high end specialty piano bar, the One Eyed Cat. We ended several evenings there with craft cocktails enjoying tunes. The coffee bar was great and accommodating of any specialty order. We were not overly impressed with the club lounge food but it was a non-issue given the other offerings. It could benefit from some rotations. Our only other criticisms of the food offerings are to vary the menu of the open air pool BBQ. Maybe paella once or twice a week. In addition, it would be nice if there was some open self-serve takeout near the beach. Iberostar does a great job of both of these things I was disappointed to not find any water filling stations. The amount of bottled water waste that this resort generates is astounding. Considering it is so newly constructed, this seems like a big miss. Iberostar does this better than anyone. The gym and waterpark are both solid. The waterpark is a great place to spend an hour or so a few times throughout the trip and the gym has every imaginable piece of workout equipment. We ended many evenings in the sports bar watching college basketball and playing pool. Hyatt did a fantastic job with this space and it’s nice to be co-located with the nightly performances in case the group is looking to do different things. The spa is worth it and be sure to allot 45 minutes or so afterward to do the hydrotherapy circuit. We did family photos with Felix who did a great job. The pricing is very flexible. Just be sure to do it at least 2 days before you leave so you have enough time to review and select your photos. The pools and hot tubs were clean and at good temperatures. We are more beach people so we did not spend a ton of time at the pools except to end the day. Last but not least is the beach. This was by far the nicest beach we have stayed at in our 4 trips to the DR. The pure white sand was soft and the water was calm and had a nice Caribbean color. Some days were more clear than others but the water never lost its pretty color. There are seaweed beds but they are easily noticed if you wish to avoid them. You can wade all the way to the seaweed barrier but if you wish to do so with a drink, I recommend packing some tubes as you can go out very far. The barrier took some getting used to and it was a rare occurrence to see any marine life. We played two ocean front golf courses on this trip and it seems as if all of Cap Cana and much of southern Punta Cana uses barriers to keep seaweed down. We had two strong evening rainstorms and the seaweed got pretty bad for one day after that but then we were treated to the clearest water day of the trip. Any beach in the DR will have trouble competing with Turks or similar islands but they are still beautiful. We enjoyed the hobie cats (be sure to reserve a day in advance) and paddle boards. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel and would book a vacation here again or at another Ziva property. If you’re looking for something more affordable but reasonably comparable in the DR, I would recommend the Iberostar Coral level. To be clear, Ziva is superior in nearly every way but there is a price for that.
