Family Trip, Great time! Read if you have young kids!!

Kyle B (El Dorado Hills, California) on Jul 19, 2024

THIS REVIEW IS TO HELP FAMILIES TRAVELING WITH YOUNG KIDS We have a 5 year old and 2.5 year old boy, and traveled here from California, staying 7 nights, 6 days. Overall, trip was fantastic, and I will touch on the pros, cons and recommendations I have for families. This is our 5th all inclusive, and our favorite, no question about that. First off this resort is fantastic for children!! So much for them to do and see. The resort grounds are beautiful, maintained really well and fairly easy to navigate. Pros: 1. The grounds. This place is massive. This can also be a negative with kids though. The complex is made up of 5 hotels, multiple pools, including a large gym for all the hotels to use, and a mall with probably 15 stores, an ice cream shop, coffee shop, taco place, along with at least 5 restaurants at this resort and at least 10 more you can go to at other locations there. The grounds were constantly being maintained and everything was being kept up. 2. Pools! The main pool is massive, stretching a few hundred yards, easily. Layout is beautiful, has a waterfall with bar under it, a large Mayan structure and its just laid out great. 3. Kids play pools!! Massive water pirate ship great for ages 2 through probably 12 i would say. Both my kids loved it. Water is only 1 foot deep, and it shoots water all over the place, includes 4 slides, etc. Water slides, large ones, i would say 6-7 slides. I went down them and they are fun and fast, not for my kids ages but likely 7 and up would be good. Wave pool. This was a big hit. Massive wave pool, great for kids and we spent a lot of time in here. Lazy river. Tons of fun for kids and adults. My 5 year old could stand in it, water moves slow and you can relax and it takes about 10 minutes to go all the way around. 4. Pool chairs. They are all over, with the size of the pools there is no issue getting a chair. 5. Beach: Beautiful beach. shallow so you can walk a long distance out. Decent amount of beach chairs. Tide is moderately strong, so don't let your kids that are too small go out alone. 6. Restaurants!! Overall they were really good for an all inclusive!!! Our favorites at this resort were the Mexican Restaurant and Under the Sea. You can also visit the Brazilian steakhouse and Japanese one at other locations which we really enjoyed. These were as good as any we go to in the are we live. Buffet was so so, but this is in line with any other all inclusive we have gone. We really enjoyed the food and got our moneys worth just on the food alone!! 7. Alcohol. This could be a pro or con. Con if you love beer, really only XX and Tacate. Plenty of hard alcohol you can partake in. 8. Rooms. Good size, oversized balcony, ac worked fantastic, very clean and private. 9. Nightly shows. The entertainment team tried hard. not the best we have seen, but still a good time. Fire show was a big hit with the kids. 10. Eco friendly. No water bottles, barely any napkins etc. At first i was not a fan, but this kept the resort very clean, there was no trash anywhere. 11. The people. Everyone is so nice and kind. TIP them. They work hard, and probably don't make a ton. Bring a few hundred USD in pesos, tip and you may make someones day. Cons, or things to just be aware of, not necessarily cons. 1. Resort is massive. at least a 1/2 mile long. Not a con really. No big deal for adults, but kids wear out fast if you are moving around. BRING A FOLDING STROLLER. THIS SAVED OUR KIDS. Especially if you plan to walk from the beach to the mall, its 3/4 of a mile. 2. Mosquitos. They get ya! Be aware and bring bug spray for evenings. no issues during daytime. 3. Extras. If you forget something like bug spray, sunscreen, etc. Sure, they have stores there for you, but they charge you massive amounts. Example: Forgot bugspray. Paid $21 US dollars for a small can. Iberostar - this is not right, and leaves a bad taste in your customers mouth. Make it reasonable at least. 4. Club memberships/timeshares. We all know this is a scam, and they do sell them. They are not overly pushy. We got asked 3x while we were there walking around. Just be first and say no and no and they stop. 5. No elevators!!! Again not a big deal, but if you have young kids, you may want to request a level 0 floor room. Again, we had a great stay and would recommend this resort to families with kids. Reach out if you have any questions!

Vacation Saved By The Staff

Steve H (Clarksville, Maryland) on Jul 17, 2024

My family and I stayed at this hotel because of the online reviews I read regarding handicapped accessibility for one of my family members. Despite my best efforts of communicating our personal and medical needs for my family member and being quite exact with the room type, knowing that they only assign rooms based on "availability," I told them quite transparently that if they could not guarantee this room that we would need to find other accommodations. We could not fly from Maryland to Mexico and not have the rooms we needed. One of the managers assured me in writing that the rooms would be set aside for us. When we arrived, this same manager (on duty) had given away the handicapped accessible room to another guest that did not have any needs for this room type. Our stay there got off to a very poor start. It got resolved by the end of the day but our first day there was ruined and we were seriously considering switching to another resort and never giving Iberostar our business again. Thankfully, the staff (not management) was able to provide me and my family with wonderful service the rest of the week. In particular, Fernando, the pool/beach Concierge, was truly phenomenal. He looked after us the entire week after the debacle and was attentive to our needs. He ensured that my family member was well taken care of and that she had what she needed to take full advantage of the pool and beach areas. Fernando was kind, compassionate and understanding of our situation and went out of his way to make sure we had whatever it is we needed. He is truly a superstar and I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge him. The other person that stood out was a waiter named Gilberto. After our first breakfast we made sure we sat in his section the rest of the week. He was a pleasure to have serving us. He too was very caring, kind and funny and I looked forward to seeing him each morning. Most of the staff at the restaurants were fine and many of the hostesses moved around from restaurant to restaurant during our stay and were very kind and considerate. We were lucky to get reservations for the hibachi restaurant and the brazilian steakhouse. We enjoyed both but if you are looking for a fogo de ciao experience, forget it. All in all, the food was good. The lunch buffets were what you would expect. My least favorite restaurant was the Mexican restaurant. I got the chicken fajitas and they just were on small, cold tortillas and the chicken was dry and bland. We loved the French restaurant the best. The food and service was excellent. The entertainment was enjoyable each night. While our children are older, the kids club looked like a great experience for those that choose to enroll their kids in it while there. The counselors were very interactive with the "campers" and it looked like they were having loads of fun. So to summarize, for people looking for an accessible resort, this is considered one. There is a wooden path to get to the beach and cabanas that are reserved for those with mobility issues so that was nice. The toilets in the handicapped accessible rooms are too low and the bathrooms, both public and private lack what we come to expect in the US as ADA compliant. We made the best of it. Fernando made this trip successful. He should be commended for his work ethic and his kindness.
