Excellent resort!

RozCt (Connecticut) on Aug 23, 2024

Have been to many resorts. We reserved the rooftop plunge pool suite (Adult) vip area. The service from start to end was excellent. The food at all restaurants were great and 24hr room service excellent! Alcohol drinks they have all premium licor. The pools and pool bars are spacious enough to enjoy solo or any nice crowd. No morning towel spots dilemma, they do have a policy in place, plus they have enough cavanas by pool and beach with butler service. We were lucky to have gorgeous 4 days weather, and enjoyed all amenities including all staff were always friendly, courteous and polite. Definitely recommend.

Activities on activities

Noah W (Temecula, California) on Aug 22, 2024

This resort was so much fun, the staff was absolutely amazing, they made the time we spent there great. The activities team always kept my wife and I busy and enjoying our time there. Oliver from the activities team made our stay enjoyable and continued to lighten the mood and make all the games engaging. We loved the activities the resort had and everyone who was at the resort was so friendly. If you are looking for all inclusive adults only it might not be for you, but if you are looking for some of the most friendly resort goers then I would highly recommend this resort. There is always so much to do and you really don’t have to leave the resort to have an amazing time!!

Not worth the price, run by thugs

Ran C (Los Angeles, California) on Aug 21, 2024

Majestic Excellence pretends to be paradise and customer-first, but is actually held together by scotch tape and run by thugs. Our trip was up and down, let's start with the good: the food was mostly decent. Our butler was kind. The vibe is serene. And now for the bad: They are very aggressive about tips and will shame you if you don't yet have cash. Their only ATM has a $20 fee for taking out money. Their transportation is a racket. A $25 Uber ride is $86 through their hotel and they get very angry if you call an Uber--they took us out of ours even after we sat down and buckled. If/when you have an issue, you're on your own--their staff look the other way. It's REEEEEALLY hot--even too hot for swimming after 8a. The mosquitos are nuts. Everyone in our wedding party was eaten alive--thank goodness for Photoshop! Be prepared for mold in the pools and in your room. It's very humid there, I get it, it's a losing battle, but it's gross. Room cleaning is on Mexican time...they'll maybe get to it, but it will be at the most inopertune time and they will ignore do not disturb signs (daily). Honestly, the most shocking part of this is they really couldn't care less--I've tried to speak with someone about these issues in person and after returning home and no one will return my calls. Very bizarre for a "5-star resort". Overall, way overpriced, is a cash grab once you're there, it's too hot for seniors or children, you're on your own if you need anything, and you're going to feel uncomfortable/awkward. I'd give this place a "no thanks". UPDATE: I got a call back after posting a negative review on Google. Their Director of Rooms had a very hard time understanding the situation and offered no apology only that the experience I had with the bellhops and transportation were out of their control. Sheesh.

Amazing Experience !

Wayne S (Irvine, California) on Aug 21, 2024

We stayed at the Majestic Elegance Resort in Costa Mujeres for two weeks, so we had a chance to check out thoroughly most of the local amenities, which means the various restaurants, bars, the beach, theaters and shops. And of course, service and staff. Overall, we rate this resort, based on our level of satisfaction, as a five out of five. Our comparison is based on a few resorts we visited recently on various continents (we are Italian but live in the US). The Location The resort is situated in a very nice calm area a few miles north of Cancun, maybe less than half an hour’s drive north of Cancun. It is very nice and quiet, and the beaches are very wide and there is plenty of space for everybody. In fact, during the morning till 10am you might be the only one at the beach. There are plenty of cabanas, beach umbrellas and so forth so that we never had an issue finding a nice spot to relax in. There is a bar right at the beach, and they will bring you any drinks you desire. They will also bring you towels if you do not have them with you. Nearby there is also a hamburger stand that will offer simple foods and snacks if you feel hungry in the middle of the day. There are lots of coconut palm trees all along the beach which harbor several beautiful tropical birds, and underneath there's lots of beautiful iguanas that like to roam around, always looking for snippets of food. If you feel like it, you can have a massage done right there at the beach, there are shaded areas where they set up little beds to do that, Roxanne will take care of you. The fine white sand at the beach is just amazing, it is a as white as it gets even though some have told me there are even whiter beaches on some remote God forsaken Caribbean islands. To us it just looked just about the best sand we've seen anywhere, on various continents. The water is crystal clear with a shade of blue that runs between a light blue tint and an emerald green. You will find that on some days if the winds are right, a little bit of sargasso weeds get blown in, but then the next day it’s gone. I have no problem with the sargasso weeds, in fact I like them because it is part of Nature. There are also some trucks that fastidiously pick up any leftover sargasso weeds on the sand, just about every day of the week. The only minor complaint I would have is that there is a nylon line that is strung in the water close to the beach to prevent swimmers to go out too far, with occasionally jet skis racing by right close to the line (why do they need to do that?), and I would suggest that that nylon line should be moved further out so that anybody that likes to swim or snorkel, and generally have a good time in the crystal clear warm water, would have a little bit more breathing space. There are several beach activities that you can do there, which would include taking out a Hobie Cat catamaran (free to use), riding on jet skis ($85 an hour), or getting dragged around the sky in a parachute. There are also activities for small kids, occasionally two horses show up and you can put your kids on the horses and have them ride around, which looked like fun. Occasionally there's also a few nice ladies that show up and offer massage service at a nearby place. To see what the emerald Caribbean waters look like at the Majestic Elegance CM you might want to look at my YouTube video under Herb’s Garage ( video 13153TpAErU ) So I would rate the beach (especially) and the facilities as a five out of five. The Restaurants Overall there are five restaurants, and our favorite ones were Mar House located right next to the beach, and the large buffet close to the reception, which we mostly used for a very satisfying breakfast with omelets and fresh bread etc.. The Mar House is set up for buffet during lunch (opens at 11am), and then in the evening they have a regular dinner menu. We tried just about anything on the evening menu and came to the conclusion that the absolute best item on the menu is the broiled whole lobster, although the fish tuna carpaccio is pretty good too. During the day the items they offer at the Mar House buffet vary from day to day, and our favorites were the fish off the grill and the various cevices. Make sure that when you go to the Mar House during the day you don't have wet feet or sand on your feet, otherwise there is this nice sweet lady manager at the door that will call in the federales, and ten will make you stand outside baking in the sun for a few more minutes so you're properly clean and dried up. Yes, zapatos mojados no son buenos porque puedes resbalarte, caerte y romperte la cabeza. There is also an excellent Italian restaurant for dinner called Bataccio, where they have excellent antipastos like carpaccio as well as pastas, and the ossobuco was as good as you get it in Milano Italy (yes I am Italian). And we tried the Mexican restaurant as well as the steak Argentinian one.. There is also a Japanese one but we did not try that one, someone told us it was pretty good. There are also a number of bars interspersed throughout the resort, some located right on the pools so that people can have their daily fix of alcohols while leisurely floating around in the pool water. We're not heavy drinkers ourselves so we did not have a chance to really use those bars, our alcohol consumption was mostly limited to one or two glasses of white wine for dinner. One shortcoming in our opinion is the fact that they don't serve a decent cappuccino or similar at any of the restaurants, and that would include the large buffet that we use for breakfast in the morning. I would suggest that they look into how the majestic elegance in Punta Cana solves this problem, by serving an excellent cappuccino at their morning buffet facilities. It's not that hard to do. Decent espresso is also hard to find here, the only place that has decent espresso is the bar opposite the reception. While we did find all the staff at the restaurants and buffets extremely friendly and helpful, a special mention should go to the senior manager at the Mar House beach restaurant. Her name is Ahide H. and she went out of her way to greet us every day and make sure that we would be taken care of properly (and that I would get my daily fix of gingerito). I could tell that she has great attention to detail, always making sure that everything runs like a well-oiled machine. Which is especially admirable, since ladies like her go through an eight-hour shift, standing up most of the time, which I would imagine can be physically quite demanding. So, I look forward to the day when Ahide H. will be generously rewarded of her daily untiring efforts, and get promoted to general manager of the whole Majestic Elegance resort ?? ! So overall I would rate the restaurants and buffets, given the fact that this is an all inclusive resort, and in view of the reasonable overall price that you pay, a five out of five. The Room Service Generally, we found the service to be prompt and excellent at all resort locations, which includes the concierge, the restaurants as well as the rooms. We were part of the Expedia VIP program, so we were assigned a butler by the name of Gustavo, and whenever we had an issue we would call him and he would show up within a few minutes and take care of it. The room service was fastidious, and we would have the towels and bed sheets changed or removed regularly. Whenever we had an issue with anything, the girl that took care of our room (her name was Jessica) she’d always took care of everything with a big bright smile. A tiny crack in the ceiling maybe in some remote room, seriously, just needless nitpicking it seems, who cares. Overall, this is clearly a nearly brand new, well built and well taken care of resort, painters touching up even the tiniest of wall discolorations. One thing we noticed is that the coffee machine in the room which is a Nespresso-based one with Italian (Arista?) imported coffee is actually pretty good, better at making coffee than some of the other not-so-great push-a-button coffee machines interspersed through the resort. So overall I would rate the service in our experience, from our two weeks staying there, as a clear five out of five. The Pools There are many pools interspersed throughout the resort, mostly towards the beach area. Some are smaller laid out along the rooms, and some are larger facing the ocean. Whether those pools are regarded as large or small depends on the kind of resorts you have been to before. I did find their size to be quite adequate, but we do remember that the pools at the majestic elegance in Punta Cana were significantly larger. That nevertheless was offset here by the fact that the whole beach area in Punta Cana was much much narrower. On the other hand, at other times, we went to The Four Seasons in Hawaii and there the pools are much smaller. Here there’s also a number of rooms either on the ground floor or on the top floor which do have a mini pool right outside the room. I think that is a cute option, for some people, but we ourselves preferred a nice quiet room since we would spend most of the time either at the beach or in some of the pools or restaurants at the resort, so that our room was used largely for just sleeping. That of course is a personal thing, not everybody is like us and prefers to spend most of the day enjoying the views of emerald Caribbean waters, and the endless majestic dance of the clouds. So, I would rate the size and layout of all the various pools as a four out of five. You yourself might care more or less about this particular item. Nightlife and Entertainment There is a large, covered theater, and they have shows every night. One night they had Queen another night they had the Abbas and another night they had karaoke and so forth. We love the shows and we went to one of them every night, they would start around 9:00pm and they would be over at around 10pm. They involve local singers and artists which come in I guess from Cancun. Once a week they have some sort of Mexican show where they exhibit lots of Mexican food and then they have Mexican salsa dancers, and I think one day they even had salsa classes for kids and adults which was nice. There is no Night Club, so you should be aware of that. Once a week they have a live music event in front of the Mar House restaurant at the beach, there’s a band as well as a group of amazing dancers dressed up in Maya feather costumes, offering photo opportunities after the show. The event is very kids friendly, and the kids of all ages seem to have a great time dancing around in front of the band. Occasionally there were a few mosquitoes around and it is my bet that they’re mostly mujeres because they all came right after me, sucked me dry, while at the same time left everybody else in peace. Again, I would rate this part as a five out of five (the occasional female mosquito nevertheless gets a zero out of five). What else is there to say? The Majestic Elegance CM is conveniently located about half an hour taxi drive from Cancun's airport, which is rather convenient. Cancun's airport in turn is served by lots of locations in the US, which might be close or far depending on where you live. We did notice a few visitors from Europe but there were not many, as well as relatively few people coming from Mexico, central or south America (unlike Punta Cana). Also, we noticed that almost every day they had some sort of wedding, sometimes even twice or three times a day. Due to its location and the spectacular nature of the beach I can understand why this would be a desirable place to choose.
