The entertainment staff Wellington and the restaurant service Omar was 10/10. For the price, it was a great place to stay. Very enjoyable. Food was tremendous. Everything you need in one place. Simple, yet satisfying. Highly recommended. Gorgeous ladies working there too. Love my time at La Romana. Definitely a great time.

Just returned from two week holiday at this hotel with my wife. We stayed at this hotel several years ago when it had recently been built and it was all around very good. Unfortunately time and a very obvious lack of any ongoing refurbishment or maintenance in terms of the rooms has left them VERY VERY tired. We stayed in three different rooms this trip! The first room was almost flooded by a failed air conditioning unit at 3.30 am (water pouring through a light fitting behind it), moved to another room. The second room, again air conditioning unit failed with water running down the wall onto the floor, moved to a third room. All three rooms had plenty of other issues. We had to get maintenance out to fix the safes, which continually fail to lock/open properly (5 times). Door handles missing on wardrobes with bolts just sticking out. Many of the cupboard doors, draws just won’t close properly (loose fixtures or warped). Phone didn’t work in one room and had to be replaced. Whirlpool bath, wouldn’t fill so could not be used as pop up plug wouldn’t seal. Water leaking very badly from pipes going into shower wall, toilet handle hanging off and in another toilet wouldn’t flush properly, I could go on! It was very clear that the TUI rep was not surprised by the problems and offered immediate financial compensation, the hotel additionally gave my wife some free spa treatments to make up for the issues. To be fair the hotel staff and maintenance were quick to apologise and try to deal with the issues and the grounds/pools are very good. Food is generally satisfactory but you will struggle to get bookings in the speciality restaurants unless you do it literally on arrival. In my opinion there is no way this is now a 4 star plus hotel, not even close. Three star at the very best and we will not visit a third time.

A thoroughly fantastic resort and stay. We are coming to our last night here and have had a fantastic time, From the minute we stepped of the transfer bus the staff really stood out, through check-in and made us feel really special The complex is clean all the time and we'll the staff really could not do any more for you it made our stay one of the best holidays we have had. We will be back 100%

I’ve recently returned from 2 weeks at this hotel as a solo female traveller, having had a fabulous holiday. My room was beautifully equipped and kept very clean. The fridge was fully stocked every day with waters, soft drinks, spirits and beer and the aircon was very efficient. The food was excellent – I don’t eat meat or dairy but there was a huge selection of salads, vegetables, fruits, fish and seafood. I ate in 3 of the a la carte restaurants and was very impressed. The wine was OK and there are branded drinks included in the AI package. All the staff at the hotel work very hard and are lovely – special mention to Victor who looked after me so well in the buffet restaurant and Omar who remembered my lunch order every day in the pool restaurant. If you want tea in your room take a travel kettle, although a coffee machine is provided. I travelled with Tui and would advise against the Catalina Trip and especially the Sharks and Rays trip, the latter keeps creatures in poor conditions and really ought to be closed down. Both trips are oversold and expensive for what they are. The shops on the site are very expensive of course, so make sure you take all your sunscreens and OTC medicines with you. The sun is very strong so Factor 50 is a good idea, even if you tan well. The quiet pool is lovely and peaceful but the pool isn’t suitable for doing any serious swimming. The main pool is better for swimming but choose your times as it gets busy with people standing in the water whilst drinking and smoking. It did get a bit rowdy at times, but the behaviour of the guests is out of the control of the resort. You can get some serious distance swimming done in the sea from the hotel beach. If you want adults only, hot weather and good food at a reasonable price I would definitely recommend this hotel.
