Not terrible but certainly not 5*

Review for August 2023 Holiday We visited in August 2023 with our kids and family friends. It was overall a great holiday (mainly down to each others company and not letting poor customer service and food getting in the way of our trip) however thought I’d share mine and my families thoughts. Firstly the resort is definitely not a 5* resort. I’d personally give them 3.5*. Rooms are very clean, entertainment is great for both kids and adults and the pool and splash park area is superb. However the resort is lacking the attention to detail, food standards and customer service to make it a 5* resort. Pros: - It was a member of our groups birthday during our visit and the hotel did very well organising a cake and celebrations in their Mediterranean restaurant for us and we had a great time! - Very good water park and pools for all ages. - Beach was nice and relaxing to sit on, however we did visit during seaweed season so the beach had a lot of seaweed, this didn’t bother us though. I would definitely note if your someone who’s priority is clear water and white sand to definitely look at staying at another part of the island. - Very nice and clean rooms and we had a lovely view looking into gardens. - Evening entertainment was pretty solid for an all inclusive with lots of variety for all ages. - Really nice grounds and a lovely walk from the rooms to the beach and swimming pools. - Cons: - A huge downside and disappointment for myself and my group was how rude and unpleasant we found the majority of staff to be. Myself and my family have been visiting resorts across the Caribbean and South America for decades now and something we have always noted is how friendly staff have been, however it was a very different experience at Grand Sirenis. I partially blame management as some staff in fairness seemed incredibly overworked and tired, however something that really shocked me was a lot of Spanish speaking guests seemed to get treated in a very different manner to English speaking guests. I have never experienced anything like this before or after my visit to Grand Sirenis. We found ourselves often ignored at the bar (unless we left a very generous tip after every drink) as well as in the main buffet when waiting to be seated and for cutlery etc. Overall we were a group of 9 so as you could imagine we paid a significantly large amount to be able to go on this holiday and we actually found the service by a lot of staff quite shocking. Obviously this isn’t all staff and there were some incredibly friendly waitresses, however unfortunately this seemed to be quite a rare experience for English speaking guests. - The food for this resort was a huge letdown. Over half my group got sick from the food and it was just overall pretty poor. It was certainly edible but just not that tasty at all. Not great options for kids/ fussy eaters as well and a lot of the a-la carte restaurants were just not that impressive at all, aside from the Asian one. Just really poor food quality when comparing to other resorts we’ve been too across the Caribbean. - Not necessarily too much of a problem, however we noted that a significant amount of staff could barely/ hardly speak English that well at all (particularly staff in the water park and some bars). I don’t necessarily blame the hotel or staff for this, but TUI themselves, as in my opinion they shouldn’t be working alongside this hotel and offering this hotel as a package holiday, as the hotel is clearly more catered to Spanish speaking guests rather than English speaking. Overall, although we had a great time with each other, I sincerely doubt we’d ever return back. I truly believe English speaking guests are treated differently and the food just wasn’t up there when comparing to other resorts. Not a terrible resort but certainly not 5* and I’m sure you can get a much better holiday on the island for a similar price at a much better resort.

Think again

When we first arrived the hotel looked amazing - unfortunately the same can’t be said for the roooms - you can see where the money has been spent - check-in was very strange with a man giving us a sticker with another planted on our luggage - we checked in which was a faff because you have to complete an online form and then have all your passports scanned - we decided to take our own luggage as the guys didn’t seem to understand us. We found our room which is basic at best - horrible bedding, standard of decor very poor, bathroom wasn’t the best. The cleaners sometimes left us a towel each but this was very hit and miss - every day something was missed, no teabags, no toilet roll, not enough towels etc. We found a lot of the staff were rude and didn’t care if you had a problem - I have never been to a restaurant where there was no cutlery, no clean plates, not offered a drink. The entertainment was really good but this is definitely NOT 5 star - this is 3 at best
