Great time!

Travel527789 on Nov 10, 2024

This is our second time visiting Coba in Mexico. First time was February 2024. Great experiences both times. The Good: Entertainment - all family members took part in poolside games and workouts. We were thoroughly entertained daily. We especially loved the shows at night, the circus was fantastic! Big shout out to Carlos entertainment staff - always smiling, friendly, inviting and inclusive! Haziel kept our kiddos busy with water polo and volleyball. 5/5 Food and Drinks - always so many selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We've never enjoyed the al a cartes so we only went to buffet and snack bar. Our kids went for two, three, four plates and then desert. Great food. The drinks are delicious and fresh. The bar staff were great with the kids getting slushy drinks. Big shout out to Jorge at the poolside bar! Very friendly, talkative and made our poolside experience very enjoyable! Give that man a raise! There was also a lady who served us drinks every night main courtyard - one young girl, not sure of her name. She was fantastic! Very responsive and quick and kind. 5/5 Beach - clean and tidy, lots of spots if you go early enough. One bar for Coba visitors. The other closest bar was akumal, they refused to serve us. The dock where children and people walk and go down to swim could use some repair. I overheard a young man say there was rusty nails poking out. Past the dock is clear calm water full of fish. We had so much fun in the ocean. Bathroom close by. Train taking to and from was prompt. 4/5 Excursions - go to xelha you will not regret it. 5/5 Pools - Love the large pool with the kids waterpark right beside. Big plus having the kids run back and forth between the two. Here's a suggestion ; bring enough sunscreen and floaties from home. All these things are $$$$ here. Also write your kids name on it, because people steal. 5/5. The Bad: Guest rooms - okay these need big time updates. Several issues. Phone could barely hear the person on other end. Bar fridge was mildly cool. Electrical receptacles looked black and burnt. Made us concerned for fires. Mirror was delamination. No fan in the bathroom. Water pressure wasn't good, concern over flushing toilet. One of the pillows smelled musky. Our card to get into the room, took us 10-20 tries to get in. The good news is, the cleaning staff made sure it was clean every day and well stocked. Air conditioning was okay. Room not well ventilated. 1/5. Hacienda - be prepared every shop has the exact same stuff... People watch you closely so you don't steal. Everything is pretty pricy - anything that's worth anything. Recommendation - more variety, snack food, maybe some entertainment after dinner. We went on Friday night and it was dead and hot. 2/5. Overall we will likely be back, but maybe to another location where the rooms are a bit updated. We love grand Bahia and will likely remain with this chain.

Don't Use Medical!

MichVD on Nov 09, 2024

I will give you all the low down. We traveled with 6 adults and 2 kids. Overall it was a great resort and everyone had a blast. That said; staff was a true 50/50 split - either rude and dismissive until you pulled out TIP money or just very kind and helpful (who we choose to TIP greater! We have been to many other countries in the past and have to say that the #1 downfall to Mexico is that they ONLY care about $$$!!!! Example; we asked for a cart to drive us somewhere and were told no. I then turned to my husband and said bet he'd change his mind if he saw cash - he then approached asking where we wanted to go.... Bar was the same thing! Some staff where great and others were just rude! We unfortunately had a child that had an allergic reaction and had to seek medical advice. I would say that the doctor at the medical center Victoria Delgado was the pinnacle of a selfish person who JUST cared about money. When we went in she first said she didn't know what the issue was and we should go to the hospital (essentially wanting to make us pay as much as we could into her system), the child was not in distress. Not to mention the risk of safety had we travelled to the hospital. I then showed her that I had allergy medication and antibiotics from our family doctor back home. She did not look at them, and was quick to say that HER PRESCRIPTION was different and what the child needed. So she apparently KNEW what the issue was and just medicine would solve it. She was filling out the paperwork and immediately asked me for a 'review' for her services on the form. I wrote a vague review as I did not want to risk problems to myself or daughter. I then questioned again about the prescriptions as we had some with us... As soon as I asked a question like that she pretended to have poor English - but then spoke fine and clear when offering additional services for money! We then went to the pharmacy to fill the prescription and they didn't have it there, they called her and she changed it to the SAME one I already had from home! SHADY and HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED! I then got back to the room with my daughter to realize they did not even mix the medication - a paramedic staff came to meet me in the lobby (she was amazing and sweet). Next - the mini bar in the room is NOT stocked, you have to ASK for face cloths and towels (should be assumed). Guest Services for booking stuff was ALWAYS a LONG wait time! Jewelry shop and shopping excursion was a HOAX! Advertised as a tour of a factory was instead a store trying to sell you stuff, shopping was pushy vendors selling junk and the transportation did not know where to go, was late picking us up and pounded cursing and swearing rap both ways with seniors and young children in the bus. Shows were fun! Front Staff desk were all very delightful! Dining staff were always great! Food options were good! Xcaret excursion near by was OUT OF THIS WORLD WONDERFUL! Highly recommended!!!
