This resort is in a beautiful part of Mexico, we very much enjoyed our visit and we recommend Secrets Huatulco. That being said, there are some positives and negatives (as there is with most travel). The staff for the most part were exceptional - helpful, friendly and made all the difference in our experience. I am Celiac and had no issues eating safely and with good variety. A big thank you for the care and attention from the staff at Castaways (Manager Ivonne, Hostess Mariana and all the waiters), Market Buffet (Manager Nemorio, Hostess Natali and Chef Daniel) and Oceana. The location is nice, resort is clean, food is quite good and the rooms are also clean and comfortable but nothing special. On the downside some parts of the buildings are looking a little tired and could use updating. For example, the Sports Bar has torn, sticky carpet and pools are missing some tiles. Drinks are "okay" and at times are served in scratched up, plastic glasses. This is to be expected at the pool and outdoors but not in restaurants and lounges when you are dressed up for a nice evening out. That part was hit and miss. We have been to other Secrets Resorts in the past when owned by AM Resorts and since they are now being run by Hyatt we have noticed a distinct decline in the level of amenities and that feel of being someplace exclusive. We appreciate the adults-only experience and will continue to visit Secrets with the hope that Hyatt can re-elevate this brand.

There are many plusses here: every room is ocean view with balconies (no upgrades required). Many restaurants & no reservations required. Just show up! Very large pools, great for swimming or pool walking. Excellent housekeeping, and done early in the day. And exceptional staff: Ivonne, Marianna, Gabriela & Carolina in Castaways. Ivonne is always checking in with you, gets to know you, & makes sure everything is just right. She has trained the staff very well. It took us a few days to discover the Coco Cafe, (opens at 7:00 am) with lovely Matilde the best barista ever. Fresh flaky pastries delivered every morning! In the French restaurant, Hostess Shaddat, wait staff Amayrami, and sommelier Jorge made for a memorable dining experience. I thank the staff at Tamarindo for educating us about the local cuisine (the world famous moles of Oaxaca). Weather was consistent at around 30 degrees Celsius throughout the last week of November & the first week of December. Spectacular setting, great beach with sailing, paddle boards, kayaks & snorkeling. Lots of cots with umbrellas. Great service at the quiet pool as well. 95% of the visitors are Canadian or Mexican. A friendly crowd.
