The hotel is not in good shape. The rooms and interiors of the main buildings are run down. The housekeeping staff did not do a good job of cleaning the rooms. It just didn't feel clean. The floorboards we...re dusty and supplies were not replaced when used. We were constantly asking for extra towels. The housekeeping staff was not very friendly. The service was very slow for room service. The valets seemed more interested in chatting then helping retrieve cars. We were also charged for food we didn't order and were not able to resolve the matter before leaving. The grounds are beautiful and the view from our room was lovely. Overall we were disappointed in how run down the hotel is given how expensive it is to stay here. Definitely not worth the price. I see quite a few reviews that are very positive but an experienced traveler will definitely notice the less than ideal conditions. I would pass and pick a different resort.
Gorgeous resort with well thought out small touches.

Our over all vacation at the Fairmont Orchid was excellent! This resort is GORGEOUS and its grounds are stunning. Our room was recently decorated in a classic Hawaiian style. The dresser included a very... practical refrigerator that was a drawer. It was the perfect size for our restaurant leftovers and canned drinks. The rooms also had beautiful metal water bottles that were included in our stay, 1 for each person. Frequently found across the resort there were machines that dispensed cold filtered water. No need to purchase water bottles. These were also great for our adventures off property. On multiple floors of the resort, there was a complementary washing machine and dryer that included detergent pods and dryer sheets! My first time ever seeing this complimentary at a resort! It was wonderful to wash and dry any wet clothes we needed before our flight back. The large pool was surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs. We almost never had an issue finding chairs, umbrellas for shade were sometimes tricky to snag. There was an also a section of the pool that was for guests over 18. Servers were more than happy to take drink and food orders. The inlet beach area was perfect, the sand was soft and easy to walk on. Unlike another resort nearby, where it was more pebble like then sand and very difficult to walk on barefoot. The inlet was great for snorkeling, paddle boarding or any other water activity you were interested in. Our stay included an amenities card that included access to beach activities. Their restaurants were expensive but that seems common in Hawaii. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, it was smaller than other resorts we have been to in the Hawaiian islands but still nice. The staff at this resort we all incredibly helpful and kind. The Fairmont Orchid deserves to have a few of it rough edges over looked by so many positives. The only drawbacks I saw to this hotel, the wood framing/molding around the elevators were extremely dented with way to many coats of paint. As well as the wood trim in our water closet (toilet area) needed replaced. The hotel is gorgeous with excellent finishes and breath taking views of the ocean. The grounds have immaculately kept plants and trees. This is definitely one our favorite resorts we have ever been to!
A touch of Magic

What a beautiful property! As we walked down into the restaurant the open views are to die for. We had reservations at the Browns Beach House as we were celebrating a very special occasion with my girlf...riends. They sat us at the edge of the water which couldn’t have been more perfect. Our server Janice was very attentive, sweet and made our dining experience one to remember. The chef also came out with a delicious appetizer! Even the manager came out to check on us. This place is magical! Browns Beach House is a must when on the Big Island! You won’t be disappointed.

The Fairmont Orchard is a fabulous resort. The views are simply spectacular. Watching whales breach from a lounge chair on the beach is an experience I won’t soon forget. I find it easy to relax at the Orc...hard; whether I’m going for a stroll down the beach or listening to the gentle sounds of the surf. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Plenty of on-site options for food, and activities.

Aloha, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the amazing staff at the Fairmont Orchid. My son and I had an amazing 6 night stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely Puy, she was quick an...d efficient. At check out we had another amazing agent, Tiffany was very helpful in calling transportation services for us. The hotel was absolutely stunning! Our room was clean and the beds/pillows were so comfortable. We dined at all the restaurants and found the staff were pleasant, engaging and very professional. The food was delicious, did not have a bad experience. Wanted to give a shout out to Nania (sorry possible spelling error) at the Orchid Court. She provided us with excellent service every morning. Her lovely smile, and engaging personality makes her a true gem! Crystal at the Hale Kai was also very good, she was charming and efficient. Erwin and MJ the beach/bar servers made our stay truly amazing. We enjoyed chatting with them, they went above and beyond and should be recognized for their service. We enjoyed the ambiance/amenities the hotel offers. The sunsets were truly breathtaking. We cannot wait to return in the very near future. Thank you to everyone who helped us have a wonderful and memorial experience. Kudos to the housekeepers as well who work so hard in keeping the room clean and stocked with coffee, tea and fresh towels every day. Also wanted to give thanks to Sylvia, Michelle and Elizabeth at in-house reservations who assisted me with last minute changes to my booking and for providing my son with a special amenity for his birthday. It really meant so much to us. Mahalo!! Sylvia
