Getting tired, with irregular hours for restaurants

Tim D (Kennewick, Washington) on May 25, 2025

I spent three nights at the Luxor in May 2025. When I went to my room, I was disappointed to find that I was almost as far as one can get from the elevators. In the pyramid section, the elevators are locat...ed in diagonally opposite corners. My room was almost at the end of one of the rows that ended on a non-elevator corner. I have some difficulty walking long distances, and this was a challenge. If you have a similar limitation, ask for a more conveniently-located room. The room had fewer amenities than any I have seen in recent years. There were no drinking glasses (not even plastic ones), no refrigerator, no microwave, no hair conditioner, no coffee maker. After the room had been made up once, we did get a couple of disposable drinking glasses. When the power strip at the room desk had no power, I listened to bad music and ads for ten minutes until someone from housekeeping came on the line. An engineer showed within 20 minutes and replaced the power strip. The elevators are very slow and noisy. One was out of service for my entire stay. I had dinner in the Public House, a sports bar-type restaurant. I ordered a half slab of ribs. The portion was huge, and I couldn't finish it. It would have been enough to satisfy two people of moderate appetites. My companion didn't arrive until the next night, and although she would have liked to try the ribs, the Public House is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The "coffee shop" restaurant, the Pyramid Cafe, is open only from 7:00 AM-2:00 PM. There is a deli that is open 24 hours, but I was surprised that the restaurants weren't available seven days a week, or that there wasn't a 24-hour coffee shop. There is also a food court with fast food outlets like Johnny Rockets and Nathan's, but don't expect standard fast food prices. A shake at Johnny Rockets is $10. Two slices of reheated pizza and two soft drinks at a pizza place in the food court was $45.86. Breakfast for two at the Pyramid Cafe was $72.98. A bottled sports drink that would have cost $2.00 at most convenience stores was $7.50 at a Luxor shop. Blue Man Group is in residence at the Luxor, and they put on a great show. There is an audience participation segment that is overly long and pointless. The show is very loud and includes rapidly-flashing strobe lights, so be wary if you are sensitive to this. We also toured the "Bodies" exhibit, which explores human anatomy with actual human dissections of various organs and systems. It's fascinating if you like that sort of thing. The Luxor is physically connected to the Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino via covered walkways. In between, there is an attractive shopping mall with some restaurants. I have read that the Luxor may be demolished in the near future to make way for some new, flashier hotel/casino. That might be wise. The place was overall a bit shabby, and to my perception, overpriced.

Luxor is the place to stay it's always a great vibe. Miss the buffet though. But you also have two hotels connected the Excalibur and the Mandlay bay. The rooms are spacious. At night there is a Dj at the... middle of the bar. Make sure to get your players card.
