Underwhelming Experience, Not Hyatt Regency Standard, Construction Ongoing

MSNC2014 (Unterfohring, Germany) on Aug 25, 2024

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency LA Airport for four nights on a business trip, selecting this hotel based on the strong reviews I found on TripAdvisor. As a World of Hyatt Globalist, I used my suite upgrade award and was looking forward to a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of what I have come to expect from the Hyatt Regency brand. Upon arrival at 3 PM, I was told that my suite was not ready. The check-in agent did not apologize or offer any form of compensation beyond a simple glass of water, despite the obvious inconvenience. The lobby was a noisy construction site, making the wait even more uncomfortable. When I asked to wait in the Regency Club lounge, I was informed it was closed. I requested to speak with a manager, who arrived after a 10-minute wait. Disappointingly, she did not apologize either. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with the situation, including the inadequate gesture of a single glass of water, she returned with two bottles of water—still far below the standard of service I would expect in this scenario. No other compensatory gestures were offered, such as drinks or snacks at the bar, which would have been a minimum in my opinion. When I finally received my room keys, there was no apology for the delay. The suite itself was fine, but there were no amenities provided, which is quite unusual for a Globalist guest. Not even the basic provision of bottled water was made. This lack of attention to detail and customer service was disappointing. The restaurant was the one redeeming aspect of the stay—the food was decent, and the staff were pleasant. However, even breakfast was marred by the constant, unbearable noise from the ongoing construction. None of this was disclosed at the time of booking. Had I known about the construction and closed facilities, I would have chosen another hotel. The management’s indifference to the disruption and their failure to make any meaningful effort to improve the experience or show concern for their guests is unacceptable. To top it all off, this is the only Hyatt property I’ve stayed at in the last 12 months that did not send a post-stay survey. Given the poor experience, this omission is not surprising. In summary, this was a deeply underwhelming stay that did not live up to the Hyatt Regency standard. I would not recommend staying here, especially during the ongoing construction. The management's apparent lack of care for their customers or their reputation is concerning, and I hope Hyatt takes note.

Clean and modern hotel with an expensive breakfast buffet

DesertNativeCA (Palm Springs, California) on Aug 22, 2024

The Hyatt Regency is conveniently located next to LAX such that I walked there from the terminal rather than wait for the shuttle. All was good in the hotel and my room - clean, comfortable and spacious. However, the morning's breakfast buffet at $38 per person was a non-starter. And there's no chance to order from a menu (a la carte).

Careful of the 20% service fee on all food/beverages!

Kristine L (San Jose) on Aug 21, 2024

Hotel was ok, bed was hard as a rock but they had free airport shuttle so good choice if you’re flying out early. Beware of their bar and restaurant! They add a 20% service fee automatically to your check for servers and cooks then when you get the bill there is an additional line for a tip! If you didn’t see the fee on the itemized bill you’d tip them again and pay 40%! They need to get rid of that extra tip line but I’m guessing they won’t since a lot of people probably use it!
