Beaches is always great but Beaches Negril was special!!

Rudyard W on Aug 24, 2024

We (my wife, son (11) and daughter (9)) have been to all Beaches resorts. We stayed for 7 nights in a beautiful and spacious oversized concierge family suite. By far not the most expensive room but also not the cheapest. There was plenty of room for our family even if we were to be in the room for more than sleeping and getting ready. We are always out of the room. On to the review, hopefully this will help others to just go for it. I am going to start with the negatives. I had to really search and nitpick to come up with some negatives. While the main room was fresh and updated the bathroom felt a little worn and tired. The caulking was a little visibly cracked around the tub and the paint on parts of the ceiling was painted over many times and a corner of the vent was hanging causing some areas to just look a little old. Additionally, some of the clothes hooks were replaced and the surrounding areas were not patched really well. The toilet had some issues with flushing effectively causing us to have to flush 2-3 times in some instances. I am OCD with these things and when I mentioned it to my wife, except for the toilet, she had no idea what I was talking about. Plus I did say that I was nitpicking to find some negatives. For our night/late evening swims we did not always find pool towels. However I do not attribute this as a fault of the resort. During the day I would always see guests/families with 3-4 times as many towels as they need trying to hold chairs at the pool AND at the beach…you know 1 towel for each chair another to fold or roll to put on each chair and then the actual towel they would use. For a family of 3 that’s already 12-18 towels. The pool staff would work tirelessly to replenish the towels throughout the day but that’s a huge hurdle to overcome. So we became part of the problem and would just take 4 towels to make sure we had for our late dip.?? Again these negatives were me looking to write about something that was less than stellar and wasn’t even close to being an issue for us. Upon arriving to MBJ airport there is a Sandals/Beaches only lounge (not club Mobay) where you can enjoy drinks and snacks while you have a short wait for your bus to the resort. The drive to the resort flew by; there was a lot to see and the driver gave us information about the island at various points. So it did not seem like it was a 90 minute ride. As soon as you arrive on property, you begin to get pampered. I have to give a huge thank you to the concierge team for making us feel so special throughout our stay. especially Anya, Sabrena, and Tyree!! They were always so attentive and helpful. Anya remembered us by name and remembered our room number after seeing us twice (and we weren’t even complainers lol). You must stop by and see Monique the bartender at the main pool bar. She absolutely makes the best drinks!!! Her BBCs, dirty bananas, and hummingbirds are sooooo delicious, even though there were no bananas due to the hurricane. She was just incredible, kept track of all guests and their orders, and made special drinks for the kids!!! We have no words for the entertainment team. They are all so extremely talented!!!We have never seen nightly entertainment that was completely in house at any other Beaches or Sandals!! Fire shows, acrobatics, water shows, singing, magic, dancing all from Beaches employees!!! The same staff were also responsible for the daytime activities and interactions with the guests. I do not know how Beaches Negril was able to procure such an amazing and hard working group!!!! Elvin, Jhon, Shamoya, Kiara, Kemal, Dershea, Shinae, Jada, Edilissa, Jose, Alexia, Tasharrie, Miguel, and Delly (I hope I did not forget anyone) thank you so much for making our nightly entertainment unforgettable!! Stay 7 nights just so that you do not miss a show! If you love Mexican food you must, must stop by Mariachi. Chef Maciel makes amazing food. We would have loved to have his ribeye steak every night but there was always good food at the other restaurants so we had to settle for 2 nights of his ribeye!! (We did try for 3 nights but it was closed on one of the nights) My kids kept asking me to try and get the recipe. Service at the restaurants was good. Sometimes it would be a few minutes wait for your drinks from the bar but it would get there before your food. Snorkeling with captain Julien was amazing. He went out of his way to make sure my daughter saw the turtles and allowed all the guests to interact with some sea life. I never got our housekeeper’s name, she was like a ninja. No evidence she was ever there except our room was always immaculate when we returned. It was like she took a picture cleaned then put everything back exactly where she found it (except for the kids stuffed animals that were amusingly placed). So a big thank you to her as well!! We did not utilize the kids camp. However, if we had younger ones I would feel completely comfortable leaving them with the camp staff. I watched them with other people’s children and they were so genuinely patient, caring and loving. We also have to thank Danielle, one of the managers. She was always visible, helpful, and very obviously genuinely cares about her guests and staff. It would take more than a few sentences to capture everything I observed about her. However, everything on the resort is a reflection of her efforts and leadership. The beach and ocean was spectacular. There were always chairs available, it should be noted that we are early risers and would be out of the room by 7:30 or 8. Maybe a few days 8:30ish. Bathrooms outside our room were always clean, well kept, and air conditioned??. I read other reviews noting various people selling things at the beach. It is a public beach just like in Turks and elsewhere. People would walk by us selling souvenirs or para sailing and other excursions but they were not pushy and would typically not even stop. I noticed that the Beaches security would walk over to someone in the rare instance they stayed a bit too long. We never felt unsafe or hassled and they did not interrupt our vacation at all. Kudos to Beaches for helping to instill this behavior. Overall, everything was amazing. Beaches Negril was smaller than Turks and no stairs like Ocho Rios. The resort was at capacity but never felt crowded. I hate crowds ( I consider someone in a lounge chair close to me or close enough for me to have to maneuver around them in the pool crowded). The Beaches brand, in general, is great; but there was something special about Beaches Negril. Staff at other Beaches were friendly but at Negril they really went way out of their way to make sure we were having the best time and ALL our needs were met. They really made us feel special. Maybe we were just great guests lol. This is the first time I felt so strongly about getting employee names and writing a review. Also, before you leave stop by loyalty and speak with Trevor. He explained some new rules that were to our benefit and of course we booked another vacation!! I’m sure I forgot things but this review has already been too long. Just go and experience Beaches Negril for yourself!!!

A really good experience at Beaches Negril!!

Kristen F (Staten Island, New York) on Aug 24, 2024

PROS -Beach is immaculate and spectacular. Pristine white sand, crystal water. -Lots of great options for water activities included like the Glass Bottom Tour, which is so much fun! -EXCELLENT nightly entertainment, especially Jose and Elvin! -The grounds are very clean and well kept. -Customer service is excellent. -Pools are beautiful and well maintained. -Sushi restaurant food is fantastic! -Kids club (little one) was great. My daughter went twice (once for 45 mins, another for 2.5 hours) and she didn’t want to leave. She was baking with Cookie Monster and having a blast. -Sleep time tuck in with Elmo was such a great experience for my daughter. So was the character breakfast. -Lazy river is so great! -Love that they have life jackets for little ones so they can join in on the lazy river and by the pools. Our swimmie snapped in our suitcase, so this was a godsend. -My daughter was obsessed with the frozen yogurt place. CONS -More education needed to inform people not to disturb or manhandle nature. -You have to pay for snorkeling. -No seats for adults in the waterpark area. -Pizza place had no flavor and took over half an hour to get pizza. -Food options were limited. -No little kid-friendly cups or utensils. -Vendors on the beach are insistent. -Room keys kept deactivating every day. -WiFi is terrible. -Island Routes does not work with you for any promotions they offered (I wrote another review about this… see that for more details). SO-SO -Spa experience was alright. If the massage wasn’t mostly comped from a promotion, I would have been mad about spending the money. Nothing to write home about. -Photo session. We bought some of the photos, but the background choice by the photographer was the side of the building for half of them??? Be careful about choosing your photographer for this one. —— Overall, a great experience and we booked our next trip with Beaches to try Turks & Caicos next!

The most helpful and friendliest staff

Patrice C on Aug 23, 2024

I went with my family for four days and we had the time of our lives. The staff were amazing! Everyone is so friendly and nice! From reception to water sports to groundskeepers. We had the pleasure of interacting with a few of the staff that made our stay even better! Shout out to kamal and Jada from entertainment, niekesha and Delano from the mill, Shawn, wade and David from water sports and the sweetest server at yaku, ronaldino. The funniest bartender rayvon and our glass bottom boat tour guide (Raheem sterling, I don’t think that’s he’s real name). So many activities to do so many restaurants to try. Loved it!!

Amazing family resort! Fun for all ages!

Tracy T on Aug 23, 2024

Beaches Negril was a wonderful escape from reality. We were a family of 4 and we will definately go back. The beach and ocean were the best we ever visited! The water was so warm and clear. Mariachi, Yaku and Kimonos were our favourite restaurants! The entertainment team , although mostly geared towards children, were amazing and they tried to include everyone! What energy!! Our Concierge service was very helpful. It was nice to have a place to go and talk to someone face to face to help with anything. But, the thing that impressed us the most were the workers around the resort! Some of them knew our names on the first day and would have big conversations with us and help us with anything throughout our stay. Not a single person said no to any of our requests. They made it all happen! Recommend a week here for any family. I could keep talking about more of the great things here (like the sunsets, resort cats, starfish, Catamaran cruise,….) but better to just go and check it out yourselves!
