Overall a nice trip

Chantal E on Feb 15, 2025

We just returned home from HRPC Wednesday. We stayed 9 nights. We looked at booking through a member, but due to the Canadian Dollar being so low, it wasn't worth it. We flew Westjet. We have their credit ...card so that helped with some of the cost. After this trip we will no longer be using their credit card or traveling with them. Our flight home got changed because of weather (fair enough). When we called to say that we would just overnight in Toronto and then take a flight home to Winnipeg the next day, they said that they wouldn't be able to get us home until Saturday ??. So we managed to get on a Delta flight (Westjet partner) to Minneapolis instead. We had to overnight and spend the next day in Minneapolis, but were home just after midnight Friday morning. That was stressful and also occupied 2.5 hours of our time Wednesday morning before heading to the airport. Overall we had a great trip. We were in Building 2A with a king bed and pullout couch. We could actually see a sliver of ocean from our room which was unexpected to us. This is a large resort, but like others have said, it really doesn't take that long to get from point A to point B. I enjoyed the walk to get cocktails from the lobby at night. We mostly spent the evenings in our room as we have 4 year old. We never waited long for the trolley to come by and pick us up. Considering the price of the golf carts, I wouldn't consider renting one as it really is easy to get around. We ate breakfast at Isla most of the time. Mainly snacked during the day at the food trucks (mainly just french fries). For dinner we tried Zen, Toro, Ciao Trattoria, The mexican restaurant (I forgot the name), and the Market Buffet. My husband had zero issue with the food. I on the other hand did. The buffets were the same every single day. That to me was mildly annoying. What bothered me more was I was expecting more fresh and vibrant food options. I found that to be lacking. The omelettes were my go to in the mornings. They were great. They will cook eggs any way you would like at the omelette station if you want freshly cooked eggs. Zen was fun. The food a bit salty, but we enjoyed our meal. Toro, the meat was delicious. I liked the roasted potatoes, but all the other sides were lacking flavour. The pizzas at Ciao trattoria were quite tasty. My husband really enjoyed his meal at the mexican restaurant (the ribs), mine was just ok, but the best margarita we had at the resort was there. I don't consider myself to be picky, but the best meal I had all week was at Wendy's at the airport before we flew home. I love fresh salads and that kind of stuff, and there were not many options. If there were more I might have felt differently. The service we found to be overall good with the exception of Isla. I think maybe because they are so busy, the aren't able to provide the same level of service. The Market's service was above and beyond anything we got at Isla. We tipped the gentlemen who stocked our mini fridge well, so we had enough beer and wine for the evenings. Yes you can get wine for your room (I had no idea), so to me that was a bonus. The only other mediocre level of service that we had was the first time we dined at Toro (we went twice), the guy barely paid any attention to us which we found odd considering you need to make reservations. I was expecting more. Our serving team the second time was fabulous. The beach is rough but beautiful. Our son who is 4 had his lifejacket on the whole time and we were right beside him. I was totally comfortable with that. Do you need to be respectful of the ocean, absolutely. But don't let people fear monger you into avoiding the ocean. It was my kids favourite part. He liked the waterpark, but loved the ocean. Overall we loved the area. I wouldn't go back to the resort, but would try other resorts in the area. Hopefully this helps some people make decisions or feel better about their choices.

Did not anticipate everything they had to offer...

Kelly F (Stuart, Florida) on Feb 15, 2025

Im a scale of 5 (5 the Best): 4 Hotel Room: double King & living area. It was cleaned and stocked regularly but nothing spectacular about the room, pretty basic. 2 Food: All Inclusive -Lots of places to ea...t from buffett, sandwich takeout to nightly restaurants. Ciao Italian was the worst, skip this stop. It was like your local hospital food but they brought it to your table. Zen was better, no choices, just Teppenyaki beef & chicken with fried rice. Split sandwiches were great for on the go with excursions, and Toro was dressier but beef & seafood flavors were nothing I had tasted before. Food is salty, so take warning. Monterserat in the casino is not included, we did Valentines dinner there - lobster was grilled (salty) and ribeye was strange flavor, we only tasted it. Potatoes & beans were good and shrimp cocktail also. 3: Service was very good all around from the beach to the pool to the restaurants we didnt wait or want for very long. Everyone was extremely friendly. Helps to know spanish... 4: Monkey excursion was a fun day away - was told it was 3 hours but was actually 5.5 hours but we had fun. 4: Great time in the casino, play VIP slots for better payouts.
