Beautiful hotel!

Mari H on Jul 19, 2024

Moana Surfrider Hotel is the first and oldest hotel in Oahu. Hospitality was excellent! It is centrally located in the best part of Waikiki. Everything you need is steps away, restaurants, shopping, the beach. They do have a small pool, but as I mentioned, the beach is steps away and the highlight of the area. They have a great breakfast buffet that I highly recommend to do at least once. They have a great gym, with multiple machines, weights, TRX, Yoga mats and rollers. If the Spa is more your speed, book an appointment early, because they fill up fast. Pack light, they do have a guest laundry room in the basement, and it’s easy to do your laundry if needed, a must if you have kids. Our room had a mini-fridge, microwave, kettle, coffee maker. Everyday they would replenish 2 fresh water bottles, tea bag’s and coffee pods. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, well worth it.

Great Location but Medocrity Rules

Rick T (Bay Village, Ohio) on Jul 16, 2024

The location is PERFECT. Right in the middle of Waikiki and within walking distance of just about anything you might need. The common areas are consistent with a grand old mainstay on Waikiki. The beach is steps away. We were upgraded to a 2-room suite with our Nightly Upgrade Awards. The suite was HUGE and so was the bathroom. The view was magnificent. As other have said - you cannot use the balcony so the view was more of a tease as you had a view through a dirty sliding glass window. The pool and pool area is way too small for a resort this size and the pool chair issue that everyone complains about is real. Virtually all chairs are claimed by 7:00 am. The pool was also closed for days because of loose tiles. Allegedly, someone cut their foot. Instead of fixing the pool and reopening it, the hotel just closed it. We saw no pool repair workers for days. The hotel also failed to make alternative arrangements with one of the many neighboring Marriott owned hotels so guests could enjoy a pool. The outdoor cafe was grossly understaffed. There were long lines and the cafe ran out of food. This was important because the cafe was the only area where elite members could actually use their benefits unless you wanted to be upcharged (e.g. $28 for buffet after elite discount). This could be a great hotel again IF they address the balconies, staffing, and pool issues. The lack of any urgency to resolve these issues should keep you looking elsewhere until the hotel makes a commitment to give its guests a true resort. There is too much competition in Waikiki to accept mediocrity.

Beautiful building and outdoor area

hypsmp (Perth, Australia) on Jul 14, 2024

This is a beautiful hotel with a lot of history. The outdoor area is gorgeous right on the beach. The pool is quite small and closes very early in the afternoon, 6 or 7pm. We booked rooms in the tower as that is what I read as being the best rooms. In my opinion they certainly weren't worth money we paid. The wallpapered walls all had marks on them, we had 3 rooms and you felt like they needed to be re-wallpapered, it looks quite dingy. I made sure we all had balcony rooms, but all the balcony doors were bolted and we didn't have access to any of the balconies. The prices of the food there were quite high in the hotel, but luckily the hotel is centrally situated amongst many places to eat and shop. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. I probably would not stay here again.

Great Hotel near Everything

729dpf (Manila, Philippines) on Jun 27, 2024

Probably the best hotel we’ve stayed at here in Hawaii. We stayed for two nights here as this is quite pricey. I love the room, bigger than the first hotel we got. Very clean, spacious, and complete with the little necessities. Staff were friendly. Very nice beach front.

Great location but needs some work

pw9999 (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) on Jun 20, 2024

Very nice common areas and convenient location. However Tower rooms have all balconies closed off due to some safety/maintenance issues. Hallways and room on our floor had the smell of mildew. Bathrooms still use shower curtains. There is no power cord or plug near one side of bed for any electronics. A $42/day resort fee is mandatory and includes items that I would argue are rarely used by guests. A hotel at this price point should be doing much better.
