Zoetry Montego Bay, a great experience

First point, our entire experience was outstanding. I cannot understand the negative comments in other reviews so I have written a long review here to put things straight. We just returned home on April ...10th from 5 days at Zoetry Montego Bay. Our room (Ocean View King) was perhaps the nicest resort room we’ve ever had. That’s relevant since we’ve been UVC members for 6 years, we’ve visited 10 different Secrets or Dreams resorts in that time throughout the Caribbean, plus 3 Sandals resorts and several other brands over the past years. The resort is small, 49 rooms in total, but anyone who complains about the small size and quiet atmosphere clearly did not read about the resort in advance. The lobby, the restaurants, the bars, the spa, our room, the grounds, the pool, the beach were all well maintained and beautiful. The restaurants were outstanding. Yes it’s true there is generally only one restaurant available, but many other reviews fail to mention that the primary dinner restaurant has a different themed menu every night. Italian, French, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Mexican, Steak House, and Jamaican nights. In addition to these restaurants, there is also a Jerky Jo hut for take-out lunch and The Polo Bar which can also serve the same dinner menu as Coyaba. On occasion, the dinner location changes from Coyaba to Canoa for different scenic vistas. My wife commented that the meals have been superior to those at Secrets or Dreams. On a few occasions, the food service staff prepared meal exceptions for us that were not on any menu. All the staff were great, with no exceptions. Polite, friendly, helpful, caring. A few particular notable mentions. Kenniesha, our dinner waitress was truly amazing. Remembering our drink preferences, and even preparing a special table for our last dinner. Stacy-Ann for breakfast and lunch, Barbara in the lobby bar, Deandra at the front desk, Adrian our butler, Annika at Coco Café and the Spa staff were all outstanding. Our room attendants never missed a single day, never missed an evening turn-down. There absolutely was drink service around the pool (which other reviews disclaim), admittedly infrequent drink service at the beach. However, this is not a large resort, so expecting regular drink service on the beach seems like an unreasonable expectation. David the GM and Patick the F&B Manager were always visible, approachable and attentive to our needs or requests. It is true that there are frequent air flights that pass directly overhead. As long as you are aware of this, it wasn’t really a problem and did not bother us. Certainly, it may be disappointing for anyone who may have been unaware but it was a moot point for us. The internet was far better than many resorts. Access everywhere with a strong signal, even for making video calls to home. The beach is small and not completely ideal for swimming, but the sand is soft and the waves are tiny due to a natural coral reef break-wall a considerable distance out. The beach views are stunning and the chaise lounges on the beach (and at the pool) are abundant and some of the most comfortable we have experienced at any resort. Areas for Improvement? • The koi pond needs to be repaired and cleaned ASAP; it could be a beautiful feature, instead it is an eyesore • The two fire pits were inoperable and should be cleaned up and utilized. They would be a nice feature to have in place • The Spa ‘cold plunge’ pool was almost warm • The common / shared bathrooms utilized cloth towels that were frequently not available. Paper hand towels would be a good addition • The pillows are too soft. Having some options would be an improvement All in all, we were duly impressed by this small gem of a resort. Certainly worth visiting again.
OK if you like quiet

Very small, very quiet resort. Nice if you're not looking for a lot to do. Food options are very limited for an all inclusive...pretty good, but limited. Seems like maintenance on the overall property need...s some work, but the servers were very attentive.
So disappointing!

Our March, 6-day vacation at a Hyatt owned property with the expectations that the Zoetry brand would be of high value was met with severe disappointment. We've frequented Secrets Resorts in Mexico and Do...minican Republic and visited a Zoetry during one of those vacations. Thought we would treat ourselves to a Zoetry and this resort is nothing like the brand. Similar to others who have recently commented, EACH day was met disappointment with basic resort services. The staff is not well trained and in some cases don't really care and rarely smiled. The bars were not well stocked and when asking for a drink it was met with a bothersome attitude. Asked for extra towels which appeared 3 days later along with glassware either not being cleaned from the room or no replaced. Much of the daily activities (listed on a board) didn't occur (ex. yoga instructor never showed). The fitness center equipment works fine, however needs an overhaul. The outdoor hot tub was full of algae and wasn't hot - went in it once and never again. The "sports bar" reminded us of a run-down fraternity house, plus the bartender wasn't there. Often times, a menu item was available but wasn't made aware of it until 10-15 minutes after ordering. The list goes on... Major props to the little beach eatery called Jerky Joe's. Really great food and the owner was always nice.
Not what we were expecting

The hotel must be under a different management. The service really needs to be improved. We booked two rooms for seven nights and despite calling multiple times and even having our concierge call to reques...t a ground room, they assigned our 70+ years old parents on the third floor in a building without an elevator. It was a struggle for them to the point that they have to move them to a ground floor. Service is very poor. We ordered drinks for dinner but end up eating dinner without getting our drinks and end up getting drinks for ourselves at the bar. They brought us a wrong order and instead of making a new dish, they took the fish off and placed chicken on it so, the dish still had fish smell. Compared to other places we have been and with globalist status, the service was surely a let down. Mind you, we had 2 butlers for the 2 rooms booked. Most of the time pool and beach side services was very much delayed. The last 4 days, we had the same server, Kenniesha, for dinner and she was phenomenal. The food was nothing to write home about
Completely torn regarding the Zoetry

I am so torn in regard to this hotel. Firstly the areas that need improvement: 1. The noise from the airport is an issue, there are several flights leaving on a daily basis but in my opinion, and hotel a...long that stretch is going to have the same issue as the coastline is on the flight path. You do get used to if after a couple of days. 2. The noise from the road is ridiculous. It is constant, all the way through the night and day and it is intrusive. Our room was in the main building (rooms starting with a 1) and if you are put there I would ask to be moved. We said not to bother, but on reflection, that was the wrong decision. 3. The service is so varied. There are grumpy staff who make you feel as though they are bothering you, there are staff that do not turn up on time (mainly the coffee shop) so you are waiting around for others to come and serve the coffee. The longest I waited was an hour, which is far too long and quite annoying. Drinks around the pool were few and far between. However some of the staff are fabulous and there is nothing they will not do for you. Kimberley in the main reception is the person you want to ask for. What a wonderful employee, she gets 5 star service and hospitality and was an absolute delight. 4. Housekeeping - Very sporadic, do not get excited about the snacks in the room, granola bars and banana chips and that is all, turn down service is every now and then and we had to ask twice for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel to be filled up. The glass doors to the terrace were not cleaned once whilst we were there. 5. The food is again, up and down. Some meals were lovely and others were not great. That is not to say we did not eat enough, but everything is off a menu and there is really only one restaurant that is open every night for you to use. 6. Butler Service - we waited 2 days to meet our butler and that was only when we asked who they were. We did not use the service very much until the last couple of days. 7. Food availability, I would say not for one meal did we sit down and the whole menu was available. There was always something missing and I would say, get your orders in for strawberry daiquiris early as they tended to run out of the mix. 8. Not really the hotels fault but the constant offerings of drugs from men in canoes who come up to you by sea was uncomfortable and quite annoying. The good points - 1. As I said, Kimberley was fantastic as are some of the other staff. 2. It is wonderfully quiet. There is not much to do but if you want relaxing and quiet then this is the holiday for you. 3. The hotels size - It is small and really good for those who are a little older as everything is in easy walking distance. 4. The Manager - David - is constantly walking around and checking, asking if you are having a good time. The staff do tend to jump when he is about, ultimately that service should be available all of the time, however I could see where he wants his hotel to be, but they have a little way to go to achieve what I would class as a 5 star hotel. 5. The rooms are lovely, spacious and in the main clean. The pillows need to be a little better but this is a small thing. 6. We had a late flight out and yet we were offered to keep our room until 4pm when we left. There was no charge and it meant we actually had another fairly full day of our holiday. I have never been offered this for free before and I think it is a really good thing to offer the people who have late flights. 7. The gentlemen looking after the beach, were great. They worked tirelessly to keep it neat and clean and were very friendly. It is a small beach but enough for what any one person would need. They rake it every morning. very impressed with them. 8. The sun loungers are comfortable and sturdy and there is no rush to get up and get a sun bed as there were plenty there every day. 9. THE BREAKFAST - Wow - you have to try the rum toast. It is beyond amazing and with bacon, sausage and hash browns, it is a wonderful start to the day. One of the best breakfasts I have had in any hotel. All in all we had a great time but there were certain things that let the hotel down. The things we were promised by Virgin on line were not available but that did not deter us from having a lovely relaxing break.
